Scent Box June 2020 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

The information card usually has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side. Based on the information card, this one didn't seem like it would be exactly what I'm looking for in a fragrance, but I was willing to keep an open mind. (I do really like Crystal Noir from Versace.)

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

On to the fragrance:

Bright Crystal by Versace - Estimated Value $16 (Buy 1 oz, which is about 30 mL, for $60)

For some reason I thought I'd received this before but I checked older reviews and I hadn't, though I have received several other Versace scents from Scent Box. (Crossing my fingers that they'll send Crystal Noir at some point, even though I have a full-size bottle of that, it might be convenient to have a purse size, if a coronavirus vaccine is developed and I ever leave my house again).

Anyway, I am in a mood to like this one right now as I am wearing it, even though it is a bit more floral than I typically go for. My sense of smell is really good during quarantine/lockdown (perhaps I am not constantly fighting off a minor cold or dealing with poor-quality office tower air?) so maybe I am noticing more complexities of the fragrance than I usually would.

Top notes are peony, yuzu, and pomegranate, but the peony really predominates. (Yuzu is a citrus fruit found mostly in Asia.) Mid notes are lotus, water notes, and magnolia. I am kind of getting the water notes here and I think they go well with the lotus. Base notes are musk, mahogany, and amber, all three of which I like a great deal, although they are faint on me right now. (I know they will show up later, as I have sampled this before somewhere, really, perhaps in a freebie or mini from some fragrance collection from Ulta or a department store, as I have a tendency to buy a lot of fragrance samplers, even though I have more perfume than I can ever use in a lifetime.)

Anyway, on me, this is predominantly floral, with a little bit of something "else," the "else" of which seems to be a combination of the fruit and water notes with just a hint of the base notes. This is very summery (also kind of a springtime fragrance) and very much a daytime fragrance as opposed to one for evening, if you are into that (although I wear a lot of evening/dark/winter/autumn fragrances all the time so your mileage may vary). Sillage and longevity are about average and you'll probably have to reapply this midday, but that is not so unusual. This one is quite feminine so those who tend to favor unisex fragrances may not love it.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $16. That is a little bit above the month-to-month cost of the subscription. Of course you also get the holder every month, as well as the ability to do free returns/exchanges if the scent you choose doesn't happen to work for you, which adds a bit of value. I was in a mood to like this one more than I think I normally would when I tried it out, and I think I will reach for this occasionally, although it will likely not replace any of my handful of favorites.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $16 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).
