KitNipBox July 2020 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, there are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month had a "pounce, prey, meow" theme.
On to the items:
Petlinks Fun Beam - Retail Value $6.50
This is a laser pointer. It works quite well and even though the shape is pretty much a novelty, I feel like it's actually more comfortable and easier to hold than some of the other cat laser pointers I've received in subscription boxes. This comes with a battery already installed but the battery can also be replaced, which I think is a nice feature.
Ourpets Magic 8 Ball - Retail Value $5.98
This is a very simple, small item, but Monkey LOVED it. As in he kept licking it and licking it until it was wet. That means this goes in the home office instead of the bedroom because Monkey licking things tends to keep us up at night. Like, it's loud. I'm glad he's enjoying himself but he can do that somewhere I'm not trying to sleep. (P.S. All the fuzz came from another toy in the box.)
Smartykat Kicked Critter - Retail Value $3.99
This is quite large. Monkey is my kicker cat but he was mostly interested in licking the fur on this one while I was taking photos. (Monkey's hobby is licking fur and hair. He gets a lot of hairballs. At least if he licks this it won't give him a hairball -- this fur is attached well.)
Ourpets Shock and Aww 2 Pack - Retail Value $4.99
These are two small mouse toys with different tails and such. One thing I generally like about KitNipBox is that there are a lot of different types of toys. These are on the small side, but my cats (especially Madison) tend to like small toys and I'm sure these will disappear under a piece of furniture in no time.
Smartykat Fantasy Frenzy Unicorn - Retail Value $2.99
All the kitties thought this was interesting. It has silvervine in addition to catnip. Sneaky kept smacking me when I tried to take it away (and yes, I ended up bleeding). Madison kept coming to sniff it, getting spooked, and then coming back to sniff it again.
Petlinks Nip Mates - Listed Value $5
I couldn't find this for sale in the US so I used the information card value. This is a toy that is still small enough for tossing but a bit larger than the mice up above. It's a lightweight catnip plush and it seems to be really well made, so I think it will last a long time, even if your cat tends to be violent with toys.
Smartykat Catnip Bubbles - Retail Value $5.80
My two bubble boys (Mr. Kitty and Angus) have left us in the last year and a half or so. My remaining three cats will sometimes watch bubbles but they tend not to interact. This is a nice size to try out and see if your cat is interested in this type of item. They are OK for catnip bubbles; for what it's worth, catnip bubbles never work quite as well as the cheap ones for kids sold during the summer.
Emerald Pet Wholly Fish Cat Treats, 3 oz - Retail Value $4.99
These are crunchy treats and the name is a reference to the fact that the only animal protein in here is from fish. This is good if your cat has food allergies. None of mine do right now, but I know what a pain food limitations are to deal with. Anyway, Sneaky is my only cat who really likes these but she also gets the most treats (before and after her asthma inhaler) so we will use these.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $40.24 for the July KitNipBox. That's $10 over the month-to-month cost of the box. This box was a little different from usual in that I found most of the toys for sale online, but in spite of that, I still thought they worked well with the theme -- all of these items are great for getting your kitty to exercise and to stimulate hunting instincts, and my cats were pretty interested in most of them.
