Bombay & Cedar "Protect" June 2020 Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. The theme this month is “Protect.”

Sweet Orange Essential Oil by Bombay & Cedar, 10 mL - Listed Value $14.00

Tea Tree Essential Oil Blend by Bombay & Cedar, 10 mL - Listed Value $16.00

I have been waiting to add a tea tree blend to my essential oil collection! Tea tree has a lot of healing benefits, but for me, I have always been drawn to the scent. It is vibrant yet calming. I have been running this oil in my diffuser every day since getting this box! The sweet orange blend smells SO sweet. I think I am going to use this mixed with an earthy/masculine blend to cut out all of the sweetness that it gives off. Sweet orange is best known for clearing the lymphatic system, improving immune function, increasing blood blow, and its antibacterial capacity. Two more oils for my collection that are both winners!

Himalayan Salt Lamp by Airome - Listed Value $29.99

I have always wanted a salt lamp! This one is very unique because it has Himalayan salt rocks that you simply place into the lamp. I absolutely love the look of this and was excited to get it all put together. Himalayan salt lamps are believed to emit energizing negative ions while purifying the air around you and improving your mood. I know there can be a lot of debate around salt lamps and if they work, but whether you believe in them or not, it sometimes can be nice to have something so beautiful in your living space that may or may not be helping to improve your mood and overall energy. So let's all just agree that this is such a cool looking lamp! I had this lamp all set in my bedroom, only to find that my two kids were obsessed with the rocks. I mean, they got thrown and became a bit of a hazard. So sadly, I decided to gift this lamp to my Mom's salon where she keeps a few other salt lamps as well. Hopefully one day I can get it back once my kids can be trusted around rocks, hahaha!

Original PB Bites by Pasokin - Listed Value $1.10 (Buy two 24 count boxes here for $24.99)

I have received these PB bites before in another box and loved them! Being the nice Mom that I am, I shared one of these with my kids, and they ended up eating them all. So they are kid-tested and approved! I love this snack because it is made with plant-based proteins, real peanuts, and has a nice crumbly peanut butter texture that just melts in your mouth. I might be buying a box of these to keep with us for a healthier snack option on the go!

Eau De Parfum by Library of Flowers, 1.69 fl oz. - Retail Value $42.00

This is the prettiest bottle of perfume I have ever received, I'm in love with looking at it on my nightstand. From the packaging to the label and tassel on the bottle, everything about it is perfect! I have received other products from Library of Flowers and am always blown away by the quality; all of their products look like the perfect gift for someone. Each perfume is made in their small-batch perfumery which adds to the specialness. The blend I received is made with the essence of Linden Blossom, Narcissus, and Clover Honey. The smell is light and sweet and lingers on my neck and wrist throughout the day. What an incredible item to receive!

Touch-Free Door Opener - Listed Value $12.00

I saw an ad for these on Instagram recently and thought that it looked interesting! I can't say that I would pay $12 for one, but I do like that they are sending items that work for the times we are currently in. This little key-like opener can be used to open a door, flush a toilet, press a button, or really anything that you normally have to use your hand for that you don't want to touch. I can't say that I am going many places right now, but I could see myself keeping this in my diaper bag to use when I am out and about again. I also sort of love the idea of this for my kids since they are always touching everything!

Hand Defense by Spongelle - Retail Value $14.00

My hands are in pretty good shape right now, but boy could I have used this back in the winter and spring! Spongelle products are always amazing and work to help nourish skin while making me feel like I'm getting a spa-like experience at home. This hand defense scrub is made with Glycerin, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Panthenol, and Oatmeal. This hand defense works to moisturize, hydrate, soften, soothe, and protect your hands through all of your frequent hand washing. Plus, this sponge was designed to reach those trouble areas that you can miss during regular hand washing like your cuticles and nail edges. What a great product to use to keep your hands feeling clean and smooth during constant washing, which I know we are all doing all of the time now!

Minimergency Kit by Pinch Provisions - Retail Value $19.00

I wish these kits were around when I got married because I absolutely love that these are common bridesmaid gifts! The pouch itself is so petite and cute, I know that when I am done with the products inside I will be giving this to my daughter to play with. Inside this perfectly packed kit, you will find extra earring backs, a deodorant towelette, double-sided tape, stain remover, emery board, clear nail polish, breath freshener, clear elastics, lip balm, nail polish remover pad, pain reliever, dental floss, hair spray, safety pin, adhesive bandage, tampon, and mending kit. I know this kit is perfect to take with you to weddings or other events and when you travel, but I have already grabbed a few items from it that I needed! I just ran out of my last lip balm (thanks to my daughter who loves to play with my lip balms) so I was able to grab this one quickly to use until I can get to the store for some more. A strap on one of my daughter's dresses that I love just broke and I have no sewing kit in my house so bam, I grabbed the mending kit to do a quick repair. This kit is useful and so much fun to keep for yourself or to gift to your friends at a wedding or bachelorette weekend!

The Edgy Veg Cookbook by Candice Hutchings - Listed Value $27.95, Retail Value $29.95 (found on sale here for $22.99)

I was vegetarian for many years, but ultimately changed my diet when I was pregnant with my son and have stayed that way now that my kids are full-on meat-eaters. However, I do still love cooking vegetarian meals so I was really excited to see this beautifully curated collection of vegetarian recipes! Plus, I can also use the recipes as inspiration and add things like chicken, beef, or shrimp if I wanted to. This book is so detailed! It starts with going over how to make different sauces that you might miss, how to cut out dairy, and different pantry tips. Each recipe is clear and easy to follow, which I love! Candice Hutchings is a YouTube sensation and made this book along with her husband in hopes of revolutionizing vegan food. I haven't made any of her recipes just yet, but I have been browsing through it in the evenings and am loving everything that she has cooked so far!

Verdict: This month's box was a wonderful mix of products! For me, the perfume was hands-down the best item of the month. I am a sucker for packaging and this felt like a fairytale in one box, plus the scent is sweet and light. The Himalayan Salt Lamp was an amazing surprise this month as well! I have always wanted a salt lamp, and while I wasn't able to keep this one for myself, I was happy to add this to my Mom's salon space. The Edgy Veg Cookbook was another surprise item that I am loving looking through for recipe inspiration! While the curation didn't feel like a complete story to me, I still really loved each of the products and was able to use all of them. The estimated retail value is $176.04, well above the $56.90 total monthly cost including shipping. This month's theme was "Protect," something that I think we are all working to do every day right now, but we need to remember to protect and care for every part of ourselves. From hand defense, to a salt lamp, and essential oils, this box provided self-care products that would be perfect to gift to yourself or anyone in your life that loves indulging in high-quality products!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first month would be the August box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 9 items in the box has an average cost of $6.32.

Has anyone reviewed the Mini Lifestyle box? I’m curious to know if it’s worth it. The Premium box is “out of reach” for me but I could do the Mini, if I can read/see a review. Thanks.

Got an email from them recently that they are doing away with the Mini Lifestyle box and August will be the last one as they are launching a quarterly box in September. They will keep doing a monthly Lifestyle box but are decreasing the price a little to $44.95/box plus free shipping. Their IG says there will be different products in the monthly and quarterly Lifestyle boxes.

Was really disappointed with this box. Minus a the soap and perfume it felt like TJ Maxx products.
Although you got better selections than me. They stuck me with the lower end book, the nightlight, and the cheap cheap mini wallet even though I got the luxury box.

I feel like anyone paying for an essential oils vegan lifestyle box in 2020 already has a salt lamp.

The keys i’ve seen everywhere from checkout at CVS to other boxes. Couldn’t give it away as everyone already had one or didnt want it.

I got the mini wallet that is EXTREMELY cheap and made in china of cheap vegan leather which is really just plastic (yuck). Even has the California may be toxic tag. Not to mention the hardware looks so cheap, It looked like painted plastic but it felt more like a metal. I couldnt give it away and it went to Goodwill.

I got this box because I thought “at least I know I’ll like the oils” Welp, I was wrong. Sweet orange is fine but very basic and I have a ton of it. Tea Tree just smells like medicine or cleaning supplies and also seems very basic. I have a bottle I rarely use. Oh well.

The PB Bites were just a waste of packaging, anything smaller than a Costco sample I feel like isn’t worth it. They did taste good, but getting a taste of something just feels like a waste to me in box, if it’s not as big as luna bar I dont really want it.

I hate to be so negative, but was just really bummed by mine. I had been saving up for a box to treat myself and had liked all their other boxes. Oh well, that’s what happens with mystery boxes.

It also took forever to ship and they did not communicate that at all which I didnt like. And they charged me for the next box before this one shipped.

I do find the perfume nice although it doesnt last very long. The soap was nice. Just not worth 54 dollars to me. It was a fun experiment.

Does this box give give you options like FabFitFun does or do you just get stuck with whatever they send you?

I did not get to choose, although I subscribed monthly, not yearly so maybe it is different from yearly. Three of my products were different (and lower end) even though I have a premium box, but companies always send reviewers nicer boxes.

Taryn what a great review, I really appreciate everything you had to say.I especially love the part about trusting your kids around rocks,I raised three boys I don’t think I would have had it in my house back then. I have Bombay and cedar and just love it, it’s probably my favorite one.

I was wondering why I never got my June box and it looks like they cancelled my subscription? I certainly didn’t cancel it myself. Apparently I’ve been sending my spoiler choices into a vacuum 🙁

I’m sad to see this box is sold out. It is nicely curated and I would love to have gotten it. This may be my Popsugar replacement.

Joy-Not the Other One

Those key things look so awesome. I am still going to the grocery store and the Dr. at least once a month and occasionally the post office. I would LOVE to have one of those. It’s items like this one that made me take the plunge and sign up for this box in July. It seems like they always have the most unique useful items lately. I’m so excited to get my first box!

I think I am going to cancel my makeup subscription boxes and get this one instead. This has so many items that would be great for gifting.

I really love this box because you get a nice mix of products, especially if you already have a ton of beauty products. I hope you enjoy it if you subscribe!

Oh my god she barely said anything, get over it.

I haven’t had to touch a door handle in months thanks to those no-touch door opener tools! My only regret is that I didn’t buy ones that have the rubber stylus tip because the metal contact surface does not work with a lot of keypads such as ATM screens, grocery store checkout terminals, etc. The one in this box looks like it does not have the rubber tip either.

Taryn Lowman

That would be a really fun one to have! I always get worried touching key pads and such so I might need to look into one as well!

There is no “debate” about salt lamps any more than there is “debate” about global warming. Global warming exists, period, and salt lamps don’t “do” anything, period. Having said that, I love them and have a few around my place. Let’s just keep the pseudoscience out of our reviews, no?

Thanks for your feedback! There does tend to be a lot of debate, especially in review comments, around salt lamps and rocks. I don’t think the debate is similar by any means to that of global warming, but I think it is a fair comment based on my observations. I’m so sorry if the review offended you and I appreciate your feedback.
