I think I’m the only one who isn’t impressed with Allure boxes this year. They have been very, very skincare heavy with barely any makeup. Can most people just continuously switch around their skincare products and not have any issues? Maybe I’m just one of the unlucky ones that can’t. I guess they are a good value if you can use all the products. I had to cancel. Hopefully they start balancing it again and I’ll come back.

I love the skincare products!

Not everyone wears makeup, but everyone does have skin! So, IMHO, the skincare products are more helpful than makeup. Also, there seems to be more makeup than skincare available in boxes, just in general.

I love the skincare as well. I was looking for a subscription that focused mainly on that rather than makeup and this is the best I’ve found so far. If you want makeup I suggest boxycharm or ipsy because that’s all I ever got from them, despite the numerous questionnaires I filled out every month saying I preferred skincare. Also not sure if you are aware but if you don’t like whats in an upcoming box you can pause your membership, even if its annual.

Sarah

I get what you’re saying. I canceled for a few months due to product overload, not wanting what was in boxes and delivery issues due to the pandemic.
My skin can be very sensitive at times, but with so many brands on the market, I just read ingredients before I use it. So many brands with basically the same ingredients…
I have Alopecia, so I actually care more about skincare than makeup at this point. I also have a constant rash on my face from Chronic Lyme Disease and for whatever reason, switching around products seems to help. Concealer, mascara and eyebrow products are what I wear the most often.
Because of subscription boxes, I haven’t had to purchase skincare in over a year. Between myself, my niece and my daughter, we all just trade or give each other stuff.

What’s a serum activator? Does this go UNDER your serum? Sounds like a superfluous extra step to me. I just priced this stuff on sephora.com and 2.02 oz is $84, and the limited edition 3.04 oz is $105. What if I love it? Then I’ll be up the creek because I can’t afford it. I don’t think I would pay that much in any event, but right now I’ve been laid off since 5/1 and just lost the extra weekly $600. The Pixi product intrigues me, but the rose scent in it comes not from Rosehip Oil, which has benfits for dry skin, but from Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, which is a fragrance and can irritate sensitive skin like mine. However, If the Sulwhasoo was the full size product, I would be all over this box. I was emailed an offer from Allure to return for a free Mally creme shadow stick. Nah. I got a free Wander Rush palette with my first Ipsy bag (it’s in process)- much better freebie in my opinion.

I had the same question lol. I think its just a fancy name for essence because it does exactly what an essence does, prep skin to absorb treatments. I read a ton of reviews and even though it says apply right after washing, people were saying they used it before toner, which goes against everything I ever learned about skincare. Wouldn’t the toner sweep the product away? I had a small sample and used it like an essence, (its definitely the consistency of essence) after toner, before serum, sometimes skipped the serum because this product was nice on its own, then moisturizer. Wish the sample was bigger but it made my skin feel soft and smooth after just a few uses.

Hi Lux,
I’m not a doc but tell your mom to google pompholyx or dyshidrotic eczema.

I probably will not renew my next subscription and this is my 3rd year. I haven’t had any hair products in months and make up is sporadic and when it is included, items appear to odd textures and colors. There’s been a cheap oriental face masks every month along with same old same old serums and oils I’d never use. Mix it up please!!!

The last 2 boxes have been amazing! This box has a lot of things I will definitely try. I’ve received the Ernest Laslo bar several times and haven’t used it yet… I’m just such a fan of liquid cleansers.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy Byers

I skipped this month on amazon and contacted customer service and they say that for sure I will be receiving it as I skipped by accident. Has anyone experience this? Have they sent you a box you didn’t want or they can unlock that for you?

Barbara

Yes happend for july i had to call them tk make sure i was fett ik nv july and i just got it –

JUNE JULY AND AUGUST have been trash. I canceled back in May and I’m glad. Lets see what September has to offer.

Reply ButtonReply

Charlotte

I think you’re in the minority on that opinion, but I hope September is a good month for you.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Anyone on the fence, go ahead please and sub. Allure has the best CS in the business…a real, live, competent human on the phone! I received my July box today. I thought it was my June box, which I hadn’t yet received. They’re sending a replacement June box tomorrow.

Have STILL not received my sign up bonus in spite of numerous emails and even spoke with rep. I paid the whole year up front. No bonus, can’t cancel. Hey, ALLURE where’s my gift ????

Reply ButtonReply

Adriana

Nice mix of products for me. I subscribed to Allure because I don’t want or need any more makeup. I think that is what BoxyCharm and Ipsy were too overwhelming for me. Cannot wait to try the serum and oil. Super excited for the face bar too.

Reply ButtonReply

Nina

I have used that black Erno Laszlo cleanser bar before and it is pretty horrible, very harsh on the skin. I even tested the pH and it is quite high around 8, which is bad. So I tossed it. The Sulwashoo serum has alcohol in it. I have normal to dry skin, but I don’t like to use anything with alcohol with it as I think it dries the skin out and is irritating. Not keen on the floss highlighter either. Floss seems to be cheap stuff. I am on the fence of skipping a month unless that Pixi face oil is really good. Has anyone tried it before?

Reply ButtonReply

Kristine

Nina, did you cleanse your face with a face oil first as they instruct you on their website?

Reply ButtonReply

Nina

Yes, I use an oil cleanser as the first step. I once used some other cleanser (I think from Origins), usually, I have normal skin type, but all of sudden my skin got red and sensitive. The Origins cleanser was definitely one where you get the squeaky clean feeling of your skin. I then got a little more careful with what I use and now only use mild cleansers and I find them also sufficient to remove the oil and my skin is normal and healthy again. Anyways, that’s just my experience.

Alice

Soap is literally basic… of course it’s going to be a high pH. All soap has high pH. It’s soap. It’s made of sodium hydroxide, which starts at a pH of 14, and after the saponification process will drop its pH. Bar soap is normally around pH of 9-10…

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

Good info to know. Thank you.
I have melasma & Alopecia. I use a lot of sunscreen and have a hard time getting it off of my skin. I generally use an oil cleanser or cleansing balm first but still end up having to use a wash cloth too. Bar soap has been suggested.

Nina

Sure, but there are plenty of pH balanced bar soaps. Even cheap cetaphil soap bars have a lower pH than this.

Sara

I think I will use everything except the highlighter not a fan of Them. BUT NICE BOX !

I received my Curology moisturizer in the mail today that was supposed to be in May’s box. Thanks Allure!

Reply ButtonReply

Traci

I got mine, too, but it was 2/3 empty and the pump didn’t work. Kind of a Curology fail all around.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

I should also say I actually LOVE the moisturizer, it works really well with my skin and I may buy one after this runs out. It was just everything else that was poor :/

Liz

Right! My pump works but mine was about half full.

I JUST received it yesterday because mine was sent out and sat in Missouri for two months. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I live in Wisconsin. So after going back and forth they sent me a new one out but….yeah….total buzzkill after all that time that it’s not even a full bottle.

Elizabeth D

For me it is a little underwhelming. The last few months were great but this just..doesn’t scream exciting to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ That being said it’s still an okay box for $15 and I’ll probably keep subbing. I am here for all the skincare bit would like to see a few eye products in boxes soon. Eyeliner & shadows would be great. I don’t find myself wearing blush, bronzer, lipstick etc because I wear a mask all the time. I do end up doing my eyes though because it’s the one thing that pops. So it would be nice to see some. Or maybe put a perfume or something different in there.
I’m probably in the minority with this as well but I don’t love seeing masks in boxes. I’m on total mask overload after the last week months.

Reply ButtonReply

ReneeH

I don’t sheet masks, I wish they would include wash off masks once in a while.

Reply ButtonReply

Randie

These don’t look like bad products, per se. I just have so many similar products and nothing here is really exciting me. Looks like I’m going to be skipping August. Maybe I’ll get Ipsy instead.

Reply ButtonReply

Jess B

I was on the fence then realized I have NO facial oils?? How is this possible! =O

Reply ButtonReply

Angela

Ok, I bite. Signed up through Amazon. July looked good enough too so I’m in now.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

I just signed back up for July, but I’ll probably skip this. I usually like Pixi products and have tried other products from this line, but I don’t really need this. I used up a bunch of skincare samples in the last couple of months, but the skincare stash has grown again after a couple of Ulta purchases and their freebies lol.

I have so many highlighters that are pretty much this exact shade.

Reply ButtonReply

SBR

Ulta freebies are awesome! I often look forward to my freebies more than my purchase 🤣

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I feel that way about Sephora.

So that’s why I get really bent when the samples are left out.

Luna

Same here! Their multi-brand gwp bags basically make up all of my Ulta purchases, lol!

shakingmyhead

Looks good, I just have way too many items to use up at this time, especially face oils!

Reply ButtonReply

AmyM

I like to add a few drops of face oil to handful of body lotion or body cream. Makes them go on super-smooth and feel so silky. Helps me use up my stash before they go bad.

Reply ButtonReply

cindy

Man, I NEED more face oils – especially for the winter months. Might have to rejoin for this one!

Reply ButtonReply

Mireia

Yes totally agree, think in May they sent out an oil and this month a serum so definitely don’t need another oil
Glad I can easily skip through Amazon

I did really like the blush/lip cream
I have tried others in the past & they always feel too powdery hard to blend

But this one is super smooth & easy to blend

Reply ButtonReply

Izzie

This box looks interesting and I’m happy with what Allure has been offering lately, but I think I’ll skip August because I have a lot of products to go through and oils last me forever.

Reply ButtonReply

Lil

How do you skip the month in the Allure account? I just re-subscribed and its been ages since I’ve skipped a month.

Reply ButtonReply

Whitney L Earl

Do you have a amazon prime account? I’ve subbed and in fact I’m subbed right now thru Amazon Prime for Allure box. I actually subbed thru amazon recently bc I wanted two of the July boxes. My amazon box will be delivered today, whereas my Allure box coming from Allure hasn’t even shipped. It’s the exact same box items.

Reply ButtonReply

Angela

Needs more makeup items

Reply ButtonReply

Cate

Try New Beauty Test Tube. It’s $37.99/every other month and last month they had a full size Sunday Riley Good Genes. And then there’s another 7-10 items on top of that. I like that it’s every other month also!

Reply ButtonReply

Charlotte

Ordinarily I’d agree with you, but – how many people are wearing makeup right now, really? I’m certainly not. None of my friends or coworkers are.

I think Allure realizes that most folks are paring down on their makeup use these days, and choosing to focus on skincare instead.

Reply ButtonReply

Cass

I got away with my hair wrapped in a bun and mascara only for grocery trips for so long. Then someone decided that Zoom and Skype meetings DAILY was a good idea.

I guess I should still be thankful that I can stay business up top and still forgo pants for underwear. Lol.

For someone that mentioned no one was wearing makeup, I wish that were true. 🙁 The cool, thing is that I’ve found myself expirementing with all these palettes I have… Well, me along with Bailey Sarian on MMM, but it’s been fun.

I have 6 sub boxes so I get a bit of everything and lots of dupes. But it’s nice to,”play” with products I would never have had the time or motivation to do so.

Question for the group: I’ve already got really long eyelashes and use either the Laura Heller tint or UD Perversion (yep- 2 totally opposite ends of the spectrum). I just received a large gift certificate to get my ladies “done”. It’s enough to get 3 full sets, plus this girl does 2 week follow ups where she fills them in. I know many of you do this.

What is your take? love, hate, meh? Also, what should I be asking for in my first set? Is there some lingo involved?

h

Agree with you, Angela. For many years I subscribed and they had a good mix of it being top heavy with makeup and samples of shampoo and conditioner or some skin care. There was always something fun makeup-wise.

Reply ButtonReply

CatG

I’d prefer if it was more even between skincare and makeup, but I’ve loved every Allure box I’ve received so far so not officially complaining.

Shar

Totally disagree. I sub to Allure because it is mostly skincare. If you want makeup, this may not be your box. There are lots of boxes with more makeup. BoxyCharm is almost all makeup, and Ipsy has a lot of makeup. Maybe try a different sub.

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

Same! If there was less skincare, I’d be out.

Monica

Right? I’ve been with Allure for years and it’s always been skincare heavy, which is what I love about it:)

SBR

Totally agree! I subscribe to Allure because it isn’t mostly makeup items! I do like the mix of their boxes.

Lauren

I still haven’t gotten my June box (my fiancé for me the sub through Amazon and for May, the box showed up June 8) – is it normal to show up so late.

We’re here talking about August and I haven’t gotten June or July.

Anyone else??

Reply ButtonReply

Mandi

I just got my July box from Amazon on Saturday and my sub goes through on the 2nd of the month.

What day of the month does it charge you? You want them to charge you at the beginning of the month, they don’t charge the same way as allure does, they do every 30 days no matter what. For example if they charged on May 30th you got the May box June 8th. Now they probably charged you June 30th and the June box is on the way during July (if they have anymore). You won’t get the July box until after it is charged. Message them about the June box and then “cancel” and immediately resub and you will get the July box sent. Then “cancel” and resub on August 1st or 2nd if you want to get it right away.

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

It will renew the same time each month when you go through Amazon. If you subscribed at the end of the month it will be sent at the end of the month the next month, too. What I have done in the past when I subscribed late in the month is wait until it is shipped or you receive it, then cancel the subscription and sign up again the 1st of the next month.

Reply ButtonReply

Paige

One the fence. I have loved the last three boxes – May, June, and July. I just got the OFRA glazed donut highlight in Ipsy and this looks like a similar shade. Also just got a large Ahava moisturizer. I love Erno Laszlo products and would be excited to try that soap bar, the Whish primer and the serum. Has anyone used the Pixi face oil & if so how does it work? I haven’t used face oils before so not sure about this & the highlight being the full sized items.

Reply ButtonReply

Charlotte

Well, I don’t need another highlighter (and I say this as someone who likes highlighter more than your average beauty box subscriber), but the rest of this box is solid. I’m really looking forward to trying the WHISH primer and Erno Lazlo bar.
