Nomadik “Reduce Reuse Recycle” May 2020 Review
1 of 4 2 of 4 3 of 4 4 of 4 There is a small trifold pamphlet that goes over the three items included in this month’s box as well as Nomadik tips, the Nomadik challenge, and some brand discounts.
1 of 5 2 of 5 3 of 5 4 of 5 5 of 5 Leus Eco Wash Bag – Retail Value $24.99 On the list of things I didn’t know, I can now add: washing machines don’t catch the microfibers that break off my synthetic clothing. I can’t say that that’s something I even thought about. This wash bag is made of a superfine polyamide mesh that makes sure that synthetic fibers (like microfiber) don’t make it out and into our water streams. The large bag that is roughly the size of my torso can be stuffed full of any synthetic clothing I have and tossed into my washer as I would do with delicates. After the cycle, any fibers that came off of those clothes or performance fabric items will be trapped in the bag and ready to be wiped out like a lint trap. The top of the bag has a bright yellow zipper and a band at the top that reads “Thanks for being awesome.” The wash bag can also be used on any fabric that you want to protect from tears to extend its life. Stoked to use this and see what comes out!
1 of 6 2 of 6 3 of 6 4 of 6 5 of 6 6 of 6 Coalatree Java Hiking Socks – Retail Value $20.00 (similar linked, on sale for $15.00) I get excited about new hiking socks since I only have a couple of pairs myself. Unfortunately, this heather green calf-length pair from Coalatree were a little too big for my women’s size 6 feet, so I passed them on to my roommate Tony. When he put them on, he immediately remarked on how soft they are but said they definitely don’t feel as supportive or cushy as his REI socks. He thought they felt like a poly blend so I checked the fabric info to reveal that they’re 70% cotton and 30% S.Café. “What in the world is S.Café?” I thought. Upon looking it up, I came to find that it’s not a typo but a new type of material made from recycled coffee beans and discarded wood pulp! Very cool and very much in line with the month’s “reduce reuse recycle” theme.
1 of 4 2 of 4 3 of 4 4 of 4 United by Blue Packable Tote – Retail Value $12.00 I am a sucker for reusable bags that can fold down since it makes it much easier for me to keep them on-hand. This one from United by Blue not only packs down into itself, but it has a drawstring, attached carabiner, and the cutest plant and animal pattern against a deep green background. The durable ripstop polyester fabric is 100% recycled and has a water repellent finish which makes it great for outdoorsy trips where things can get wet or dewy. When fully expanded, this bag is 13 x 16″ (flat) with an outside pocket on each side. This will be great for tossing random camping gear like hammocks and cookware into for my next trip! Verdict: I really enjoyed this month’s Nomadik box that presented me with three ways to reduce waste. Using reusable totes instead of plastic bags, catching tiny fibers before they go out into our water, and wearing socks made from recycled materials are all great places to start. I find the pattern of the tote super cute and the wash bag is enormous and will no doubt come in handy. Although the socks were a little big, I love the green color and the new materials used. These items have a total retail value of $56.99 which is over $20 more than the cost. To Wrap Up: Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first box will be the Welcome box. Nice items. But I counted the value as $52 which is just $12 over the total cost w/shipping. Not a ROI in my book 🙁
For boxes like this, I think it’s more about the curation than it is the return. I’d be happy to get $52 worth for $40 when they’re useful and excellent products.
