BoxyCharm Premium June 2020 Review
Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and often listing upcoming sales and promotions. It looks like my assortment this month is box #32.
Now, on to the items!
Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Mask, 2.3 fl oz - Retail Value $49.00
I THOUGHT I had tried this product before, but the formula of mine was slightly different. I swore Glow Recipe used to make an avocado sleep mask without the retinol. Was I losing my mind? In typical fashion, I went on an internet deep dive. I did manage to find this older review of the original mask formula that included a full ingredient list and I did notice some major differences that would account for the texture difference and prove I wasn't imagining some sort of alternative sleep mask that never existed.
I liked this product, but I preferred the original formula much more. This is more of a thick bouncy texture while the original was a heavier cream. The original felt more hydrating and more, well, "avocado-y." It also had the first ingredient as "Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract" while the first ingredient in this newer formula is water, and that avocado extract doesn't show up on the ingredient list until 8 other ingredients have been listed. This isn't all bad! I still loved this sleep mask. It shares enough of the DNA of the original, and as someone who generally adores Glow Recipe products, I am thrilled to see this cute little pot in my BoxyCharm. I am a sleep mask enthusiast and this is a really great weight for summer because it starts absorbing as soon as you apply it, and by morning it is totally gone, leaving behind soft skin and a nice even texture on my face. Since this has encapsulated retinol, this sort of texture improvement should continue to improve more and more the longer I use it.
Too Faced Cocoa Contour Palette - Retail Value $44.00
The esthetician student in me loved this palette. A huge part of our coursework now that we are back in class is makeup application (I am still not great!!) and a palette with 6 shades is awesome when you are building a kit that can work for different skin tones. As for personal use? I can use only some of these shades which makes it less versatile as something taking up valuable makeup bag or vanity space. I am fine with keeping it for my kit though, but this might make it less appealing of an addition for a lot of Charmers. The powders have that familiar sweet Too Faced scent and are pretty soft when applied with a brush, meaning you might have to dip in a few times to get the pigment you want, or apply with a damp sponge and blend/buff well. They are also all matte, which is kind of nice since I have so many shimmering highlighters in my arsenal.

Milk Makeup Glow Oil Lip + Cheek in 'Halo', 5.1 g - Retail Value $15.00
Milk Makeup fangirl here, and I really love their multi-sticks! I received the 'Astro' shade last month, but I honestly want them all so I am totally more than fine seeing this again in a new shade. This pink is so bright and shimmery! I love it both on my cheeks and lips, though it does have a lot of shine, so beware if shiny cheeks aren't your thing. This does die down a bit with some blending/blotting. Much like the 'Astro' shade, it seemed to feel like a blush + highlighter sort of combo since the shimmer was really noticeable. I have been using formulas like this on a bare face but if you want to try it over makeup, I recommend tapping it onto your face with your fingertips to not disturb your foundation. I am loving the effortlessness of these sticks and see myself using them often.
Love this pink.
Grace & Stella Anti-Wrinkle + Energizing Face Masks, 6 pieces - Retail Value $25.00
I did not like these masks. At all. They come in this massive plastic sheet that dripped all over my floor and the eye and mouth holes are way too small. The gel material itself is also so heavy that it slides and stretches down your face (my top lip was peeking out of the nose hole) and unless you plan on reclining you have to babysit it constantly to keep it on your face. I also found the serum to feel a little filmy on my skin.
Billion Dollar Brushes Sculpting Duo Brush - Retail Value $35.00
This is a nicer brush, though I think $35 is a bit steep for the retail cost. I like the flat top starkness of the larger end, especially for contour cream placement. The smaller tip is nice for precision work with highlighter or even eyeshadow. The bristles are infused with anti-microbial charcoal.
Skin&Co Sardinian Spirit Shower Gel, 7.7 fl oz - Retail Value $22.00
I am going to be a bit of a downer here but I absolutely can't handle lemongrass. I know most people love it, but it reminds me of citronella candles. This gel is a literal explosion of lemongrass. I did take it into the shower to test out the formula itself, but wow this is SO lemongrassy. The gel itself is fine and has a luxe feeling texture. I will even say it made my skin feel really soft and clean after rinsing. But now I smell like lemongrass.
Verdict: My BoxyCharm Premium had a value of $190 this month, which is great for a $35 box. There was enough in here to make me feel like it was more than worth it, but there were also some misses. The winners? The avocado sleep mask and Milk stick. I also am excited to try out the palette in my school kit. The brush was fine and decent enough quality. The misses? The lemongrass scented gel and the masks. All in all, though, I loved that 3 brands I really liked were included and that the variety inside felt well rounded!
