Bonjour Jolie June 2020 "The '80s" Review

This month's Bonjour Jolie box theme is "The '80s" and they included this bright neon pink card which details all of the items we received this month.

Let's start with the goods. All of your menstrual products will come in a discreet bag that usually fits within our theme.

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile, but keep in mind there might be a delay if you need to switch up your needs each month. The ability to switch it up is what I really like about this box and the fact that you can try new things without committing to an entire box of products.

Seventh Generation Tampons, Regular (18) - Retail Value $6.99

This month I chose a mix of tampons and pads. I like that they have an organic cotton option now!

Seventh Generation Ultra-Thin Overnight Pads (2) - Buy 28 for $7.99

I finished out my order with 2 of these overnight pads.

Summer's Eve Cleansing Cloths in Island Splash and Sheer Floral (2) - Buy a pack of 16 for $1.79

Each month they include a few cleansing cloths which are great for those days when you might need to freshen up on the go.

Advil To-Go Packs (2) – Buy 50 2-packs for $8.20

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

Sassy Twists Hair Scrunchies, Set of 5 – Listed Value $12.50

You can't have '80s hair without a decent scrunchie so this fun set made for a nice gift this month. I love the PacMan ribbon on the packaging, too! While scrunchies are totally '80s, I think these cute pineapple designs are perfect for summer and a bit more subtle than some of the nostalgic '80s designs. While there is a website listed, it was a dead link for me, but the card says these 5 custom-made scrunchies were hand-sewn in Georgia!

Bathnique Bath Confetti - Listed Value $7.00

Another dead link here, but this bag of bath confetti in Citrus Neon Dreams is full of fun neon pieces that will add some bubbles to your bath and soften your skin with the oils they include. It is actually made from a solid bubble bath that has been cut into tiny paper-like pieces.

Mini Rubiks Cube

This fun little Rubiks cube isn't listed on the card, but it's a great '80s nod and a fun little bonus!

Cheddar Chex Mix, 1.75 oz - Listed Value $0.75 (Buy a 15 oz bag for $2.99)

I love getting a salty snack in this box and this was a decent-sized bag of a classic treat! According to our info sheet, this packaged snack mix didn't hit the grocery stores until around 1985 even though the recipe was published in the 1950s. I love all the fun facts and tidbits they included!

All of our candy and treats arrived in this mesh bag.

Whatchamacallit Candy Bar, 1 oz. - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy a box of 36 for $37.39)

I have never actually had one of these before, but it was such a satisfying treat for me this month! I was in need of some chocolate thanks to some raging hormones and this was like a Nutty Buddy with the addition of some gooey caramel. So good!

Ring Pop & Push Pop - Listed Value $3.00 (Buy 20 Ring Pops for $6.98 or 24 Push Pops for $15.35!)

These are both great nostalgic lollipops! While the Ring Pops were oh so fabulous, I was more of a Push Pop girl! I was stoked to see these two until I noted the flavor. I really can't stand raspberry, not even if it's blue raspberry, so my kids certainly lucked out since they will definitely enjoy the blue raspberry Push Pop and the blue raspberry watermelon Ring Pop flavors!

Hostess Twinkies - Listed Value $0.50 (Buy a box of 10 for $2.99)

I have not had one of these in quite a while. I did take a bite for nostalgia's sake, but I let my kiddos share this one in the end because it was just so much sweeter than I remembered!

Fruit Roll-Up - Listed Value $0.50 (Buy a box of 10 for $2.29)

I'm not gonna lie, I still appreciate a Fruit Roll-Up now and again. These are just so fruity and I love that chewy texture!

Chupa Chups Mini, 5 lollipops - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy 240 for $13.99)

I love Chupa Chups lollipops, but I never knew that their packaging was designed by Salvador Dali! I received 5 of these in the strawberry and strawberries and creme flavors.

Lik-m-aid Fun Dip in RazzaApple Magic, 0.88 oz - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy 16 pouches for $2.99)

"This simple treat has been around since the 1940s but hit it big in the 1980s with its repacking in bright neon colors and bold flavors!" Who knew? This was another great childhood treat for me, but again, this went to the kids because of the flavor.

Dubble Bubble Gum, 5 pieces - Buy a 16 oz bag for $2.69

They finished our treats out with a handful of Dubble Bubble to really drive that nostalgia home! These also weren't listed on the card and felt like another bonus item.

Hawaiian Punch To-Go, 3 packets - Buy a 12 ct. box for $12.37

This month we received some Hawaiian Punch instant powder packets. There was a traditional packet and then two sugar-free flavors in Orange Dream and Green Berry Rush. The card listed Tang as being an additional drink choice which would have been another fun blast from the past!

Since I'm not a big sugar-free fan, I chose to try out the traditional Hawaiian Punch, but I didn't realize it also had aspartame in it. I only had a sip, but now I can remember why the flavor was so good as a kid!

Verdict: This month's Bonjour Jolie box arrived just in time to provide some essential snacks during that pre-menstrual time when any little piece of chocolate seems to help (is that just me?). I would definitely have appreciated some varying flavors in the candy though instead of all the blue raspberry since I have an aversion to it, but that's a personal preference! The theme was a fun one and I love the cute scrunchie set which was a nod to the '80s but designed with summer in mind. The total value this month using a mix of listed and found retail values comes to about $38.64 which isn't bad for a $24.48 ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping) box!

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I started this subscription for my daughter back in May. Three charges later, no boxes! No responses to any emails, can’t send anything via FB. Trying to cancel and hopefully get my money back. What a scam…

A very similar thing happened to me. This is my first time using their service. I never got a confirmation email, a tracking number, and they only answered my initial email with a pretty short/rude answer. I made a polite comment on their social media page and they deleted and blocked me…
I ended up just calling my bank and making a dispute so that they’d be blocked from charging my card. Something is up.

I loved this box, was very nostalgic for me. The 80s were a fun simpler time.

The links are all working by the way, super odd that they didn’t work for you. I just bought some scrunchie from their site.

This looks like it was curated for a 10 year old just getting their cycle. Idk maybe I’m just old now.

This box creeps me out so much! It’s like someone goes to Costco and buys in bulk and then doles it out to you for a premium. Everything looks like it’s from Oriental Trading Co and printed on cheap printer paper.

Yeah… Fun Dip and Double Bubble? That’s like the Halloween candy that’s still hanging around in July.

I’ve order tampons and pads (along with cleaning supplies) from Grove, which isn’t sub box but does have a membership option – and if they wanted to include a small piece of nice chocolate or something, I wouldn’t complain but I don’t need 1/10 of a Costco pack of tampons and the candy from the junk drawer.

I need that Pacman ribbon! 😀

I haven’t had a twinkie in probably at least 20 years, and I was just thinking about foods like that I liked as a kid and was wondering if I’d still like them. I’m leaning toward no on the twinkie, lol. I’m sure I’d still love Fun Dip though! I ended up receiving egg shaped Double Bubble in an Easter basket this year, and they were yummy… the 2 minutes they lasted until the flavor disappeared and they hardened, lol.
