Birchbox Review – June 2020

Card for Birch Box June 2020

As always, this month’s Birchbox came with an info card that lists the products on the front, with a Birchbox Tip listed on the back.

Daily Concepts Your Facial Micro Scrubber – Full Size! Retail Value $8.00

I’m thrilled to get this full-size Daily Concepts Your Facial Micro Scrubber sponge in a sample subscription box! This product is great; it has a convenient little pocket for your hand and is dual-textured. Any face wash can become an exfoliant or facial scrub with this innovative sponge. The textured sides effectively remove oil and dirt from pores and leave your face feeling squeaky clean. After a hot summer day, this product definitely helped remove the sweat and grimy layer from my skin. Not to mention, the clever little tag has an indicator that fades when it’s time to replace the sponge.

Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tint, 3 mL – Full Size! Retail Value $7.99

The Dr. Lipp Moisturizing Colour Tint uses sweet potato plants to create its high-shine pigmented hue. I, myself, didn’t see much pigment once the product was applied to my lips; it left more of an illuminating shine, like a lip gloss would. The product itself is very moisturizing and left my lips feeling silky smooth and hydrated. If you’re looking for more color, you may want to combine this tint with a lip stain or lipstick. I prefer the more natural look of light pigmentation and shine, so this product works perfectly for me. This is the second full-size item included in this month’s box!

[ comfort zone ] Active Pureness Hydrating Fluid, 8 mL – Estimated Retail Value $12.27 (Buy a full-size 30 mL for $46.00)

I tried out this [ comfort zone ] Active Pureness Hydrating Fluid. It felt lightweight and water-based on my skin. As someone with a very oily complexion, I appreciated the formula. It went on smoothly and didn’t feel like it was clogging my pores. The product dried down matte, reducing some of the shine that emits from my oily face but also seemed to lose some of its hydrating properties. If you have oily skin, this product would be great to apply as a base or primer before foundation to reduce or eliminate unwanted shine.

IBY Beauty Radiant Glow Highlighter in 24k Magic, 0.05 oz – Estimated Value $0.41 (Buy a full-size 0.17 oz for $14.00)

I tried this IBY Beauty Radiant Glow Highlighter in 24k Magic on my bare skin directly after applying all my skincare. I wasn’t feeling like putting on a full face of makeup in this New York heatwave, but I wanted to take my look a step above house troll. The subtle, soft bronze color of this highlighter accented the high points of my face beautifully and created a natural-looking radiant and luminous glow. A tiny bit on my cheekbones and above my cupid’s bow elevated my look dramatically. There was no fallout and the product lasted all day in the heat. This highlighter would definitely pump up your summer barbecue look.

amika Flash Instant Shine Mask, 30 mL – Estimated Value $3.79 (Buy a full-size 200 mL for $25.00)

I love amika products; they always smell great and keep the color in my hair vibrant. This amika Flash Instant Shine Mask is no exception. While moisturizing and hydrating hair, the mask definitely reduces frizz. The consistency of this product is much more runny than I would anticipate in a hair mask, allowing the product to easily be spread over and through every strand of hair. As someone with a head of thick curls, it did take this whole sample and a little bit of another hair mask to completely cover my head, but my hair definitely felt more hydrated and had more shine after rinsing.

Alterna My Hair. My Canvas. Me Time Everyday Shampoo and Conditioner, 0.25 fl oz x 2 – Estimated Value $0.82 x 2 (Buy a full-size 8.5 fl oz for $28.00)

This My Hair. My Canvas. Me Time Everyday Shampoo and Conditioner gently cleanse and condition with a sustainably-sourced vegan formula. Safe for all hair types, this shampoo and conditioner is formulated with water lily extract for maximum hydration. With a light, clean spa-type scent, this haircare duo is ideal for anyone with sensitive skin or a sensitive scalp. I don’t know if this sample size will be large enough to completely shampoo and condition my head of hair, but I do love getting samples like this to toss in my gym bag or carry-on; they’re convenient and quick for last-minute travels.

Verdict: I think this was a great Birchbox! There were two full-size products and several brands that I really enjoy. My absolute favorite product has to be the Daily Concepts Your Facial Micro Scrubber; it is a useful and unique product to receive in a subscription like Birchbox. With the summer months here, I need a little extra cleansing to prevent clogged pores and breakouts. The Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tint is another great product that I’m enjoying. I’m happy to get the amika Flash Instant Shine Hair Mask, especially since amika is one of my go-to haircare brands when it comes to masks and scalp scrubs. I also received the [ comfort zone ] Active Pureness Hydrating Fluid and the IBY Beauty Radiant Glow Highlighter in 24k Magic, both of which are great products for the summer months, and lastly, the My Hair. My Canvas. Me Time Everyday Shampoo and Conditioner sample packets that are perfect for traveling. The estimated total value of this month’s box is $34.10. I think that’s quite nice for this $15 box especially with some of the recognizable brands received.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. If you subscribe to Birchbox now, be sure to check the image on the sign-up page. The box design pictured at the bottom is the first month you’ll receive.

I’m a sheet mask loving, skincare obsessed, animal loving foodie. If I’m not waiting for the mailman to bring me some new subscription box, I’m probably working out, writing, or getting cursed out by my parrot. P.S. He was a rescue; I didn’t teach him that.

  1. If you look at this at the $15 mark and compare to Allure, there is no competition. I cannot wait for my annual to be done!!!

  2. Is this a sample choice box, if so, what was your choice? And Dr. Lipp is not full size like Joy mentioned, but I received the original one from Birchbox and I have been using it every night. Either Dr. Lipp or Laneige lip mask before bed. I don’t use as much chapstick during the day and I can enjoy all kind of lip products including some drying liquid lipstick. A life saver for me.

  3. The Dr. Lipp is not full size. The sample you received is 3 ml and the full size is 8 ml. Just FYI. I have this product in the Elderberry color and I agree they are great!
