Birchbox Review 'The Clean Box' - June 2020

As always, this month's Birchbox came with an info card that lists the products on the front, with a Birchbox Tip listed on the back.

Wander Beauty Double Date Lip and Cheek in 'Rendezvous', 1.05 g - Estimated Value $11.00 (Buy a full-size 2.10 g for $22.00)

Wander Beauty is a brand I tend to like a lot! I am happy to see a lip + cheek tint from them, especially in such a cute little compact. This shade is a nice neutral pink in a cream form. There are no sparkles here but a sheer and natural finish. This was just as pretty tapped onto my cheeks as it was my lips and the vibe is very girly and pretty.

A very pretty shade of pink.

Art Naturals Sweet Orange Essential Oil, 5 ml - Estimated Value $4.33 (Buy a full-size 15 ml for $13.00)

I was a little surprised to see an essential oil in my Birchbox, but also glad. I use sweet orange oil throughout my house a lot! My favorite usage is in a bottle of water mixed with some lavender, which I use to spritz my house for a nice scent and to de-wrinkle my clothes. Of course, it is also dreamy in a diffuser.

Davines The Spotlight Circle Shine Hair Mask, 1.69 oz - Retail Value $10.00

Davines makes one of my favorite shampoo and conditioner combos, the beloved MOMO. I have never tried one of their hair masks, so this was exciting. While my long hair used all of this up in a single go, there is a way to reseal it if you manage to split it up into multiple uses. I only use hair masks below my roots because I find all of my greys can look a little too shiny (aka greasy) if they are masked. I applied this heavier mask to my tresses and finger-combed it through to disperse it. I then left it on for 10 minutes and rinsed out. My hair was noticeably slicker and shinier, even after air drying, but doesn't have any added heaviness. It also smells divine!

COOLA Organic Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30, 0.34 fl oz - Estimated Value $8.16 (Buy a full-size 1.5 fl oz for $36.00)

I am a sunscreen queen and COOLA is my brand of choice. While I usually stick to their creams, I was interested in this setting spray too! What could be easier than misting SPF 30 onto your face? Misting SPF 30 AND hyaluronic acid. BOOM! While I did like this spray and I would use it again, I didn't love the alcohol scent that dried down into a sort of wet laundry scent. Neither sticks around long enough to be extra bothersome, but I did think it was worth mentioning. That just might be the tradeoff for mist sunscreen? Anyone else out there have a fave facial sunscreen mist they can recommend?

Daily Concepts Your Facial Mini Scrubber - Retail Value $8.00

Finally, our last item is a cute wee facial scrubber. It is double-sided, which is a good thing since I found the grittier side to be way too rough for my face. The softer towel-like side is much more appropriate for facial skin. I ended up flipping mine inside out so both sides were the more gentle fabric and I recommend the same for you if you find the rough side too aggressive.

Verdict: I think this was one of the better Birchbox assortments I have gotten in recent memory. The overall value lands around $41.49, which is also decent when compared to some other recent curations. I really enjoyed the lip and cheek tint and the hair mask, as well as the essential oil. The SPF setting spray is something I will certainly use, but likely not purchase. The facial scrubber worked a lot better with a slight modification, and I like how soft it makes my face feel. All in all, I hope Birchbox continues in this direction!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am happy with this box with ACE price… I will use everything. Thank you for the suggestion to flip and use the facial scrubber! I also see it may come in handy to wash babies in the bath. I am not a fan of alcohol in skincare, so I will use the COOLA for hard to get to place on my body. I have a cat in small apartment, so I don’t like to use essential oil in diffuser… but someone mentioned to drop a few in a bath and I might go for it!
