Tribe Beauty Box “Baby Doll” April 2020 Review

The theme this month for Tribe Beauty is “Baby Doll” and comes with six items to create those vibes. Here is the info sheet for the box.

Suva Beauty Rose Period Palette – Retail Value $40 (on sale for $20)

This eyeshadow palette was directly inspired by the rose period from Pablo Picasso, and I find these pink eyeshadows absolutely dreamy- especially the shades Harlequin and Passionate! The shimmers on this palette packed a punch, especially when applied with a finger, and the mattes performed well for me too. While a few shades looked chalky at first swatch, it was a different story once I added my eyeshadow brushes to the picture. I honestly never considered myself a pink eyeshadow person, but this palette absolutely changed my mind- you can see me wearing them at the end of the review.

From top to bottom: Apothecary, Harlequin, Purple Ross, Passionate, Eden, Lace

From top to bottom: Sisley, Sweetbrier, Chiffon, Floral, Hues, Pastel

Beauty Creations Annette69 High-Lighter – Retail Value $15.99 (on sale for $10.99)

If we’re being honest I found the packaging on this highlighter to feel a bit cheap, but the actual performance was lovely. The highlighter was buttery smooth and blended beautifully, and it left no large chunks of glitter on my face. I was able to use it both for a soft diffusion of light on my face as well as to really add some shine, and you’d have to apply it with a heavy hand to overdo it so this is beginner-friendly, too.

Grace & Stella Konjac Sponges – Retail Value $15

Konjac sponges are great for gentle exfoliation- they are made from konjac root, and when wet they expand to become softer. I like using them with my cleansers to add a boost of softness to my skin without being overly abrasive.

Skin Chemists Rose Quartz Lip Plump, 0.27 fl oz – Retail Value $29.99

This product was interesting- it doesn’t have the wetness of your typical lip gloss, but it’s also not sticky. It adds just the softest sheen of gloss, almost like a lip balm. I have had multiple bad experiences with lip plumping products, but this one didn’t burn my lips nor did it cause me to break out along my lip line. I’m not sure if my lips were truly plumper after using, but the combo of this with the lip liner was lovely and I plan on wearing it again.

Mirabella Lip Liner in Smart – Retail Value $18

I enjoy receiving lip liners, so while I thought it was odd to receive two in one box, I wasn’t mad about it. This berry-hued pencil wasn’t as creamy as I prefer from a lip liner, but they still applied smoothly to my lips with minimal effort.

Mirabella Lip Liner in Tease – Retail Value $18

This is the same lip liner as above, only in a true pink shade. I found the color to be much more subdued when I applied it and blended it with the gloss compared to a straight swatch on my arm- it’s a very wearable shade.

Here are the lipliners swatched below the highlighter.

Here I am wearing everything in the box. I applied the highlighter to the tip of my nose, my Cupid’s bow, and the high points of my cheeks, and I lined my lips with the shade Tease before applying the lip plumping gloss.

Verdict: This was my first time trying Tribe Beauty Box, and I am a fan. I enjoyed the pink hues of the products included, and I was able to put together a cohesive makeup look that looked lovely without being too bold. Altogether, this box has a value of $136.98 which more than covers the guaranteed $100 value for this $39.98 ($34.99 + $4.99 shipping) box. Even if you take into account the current sale prices, this box still meets the $100 promised value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but order now to receive the June box as your first.

From Tribe Beauty:

Please note that you are billed for the box after your first one, according to our billing cycle. E.g. If you subscribe for the first time on June 30th to receive the June box (if it is still available), you will be billed again on July 15th (our regular billing cycle) for the August Box.

COUPON: Use code MSA10 to save 10% off your first box!

  1. I received this the April 2020 box.
This, this is the cosmetic box to beat,
    I’ve tried them all.
The curation was a perfect mix and match.
The Suva eye palette is full of ethereal, summer shades that blend like butter
The Beauty Creations Highlighter compliments any skin color and goes well with the beautiful palette.
Grace & Stella sponges are so uniquely odd but fantastic too!
Skin Chemists lip Plumper is just the right lip tingle and is a nice gloss.
The (2) Mirabella lip liners in Smart and
in Tease again complimented the palette.

This is a by monthly box but so worth it. It seems to me that the Women Business owners are knocking it out of the park.

This is the second female owned and branded subscription box that has me over the moon.

    I highly recommend this subscription.

  2. Hi Jessica,
I loved your review, thank you. Really thorough and the swatches were so helpful for me. But it was your comment that you’d never thought of yourself as a pink eyeshadow kind of gal that I really related to, so to see how gorgeous it looked on you was enough to make me subscribe (their website says you can still get this box for another 20 hours or so). Thank you. And you look great!

  3. Jessica this eye look is exceptional on you! Your eyes are radiant. Thank you for your review!

  4. At the risk of being banned from this site or this comment never seeing the light of day, I cannot be the quiet person my brain is telling me to shut up and be right now. This comment should in no way whatsoever be taken as an insult or criticism of anyone on this site (especially the lovely Jessica whose reviews I adore and I think she is crazy beautiful) or MSA either, but how is it 2020 and this site literally has only 1 person of color (and I mean any color at all) doing reviews?! Not to mention she only does 1 review at that.

I know Tribe beauty is happy for anyone to buy and enjoy their box as is any box targeted toward a specific demographic but seriously what is the deal? I know there have to be tons of Latino, African-American, Asian, etc. women (or men) out there who would be happy to review any box and especially one designed with them in mind. It just always jumps out at me and this box just finally made my fingers start typing. Like I stated previously please don’t take this as a criticism, just a suggestion/request from a loyal loving reader who adores this site and every beautiful talented reviewer on here.

    • I would love to see some male reviewers, as well.

      • I have really wanted male reviewers for a long time since there are plenty of boxes geared towards men that are reviewed on here by women.

      • True, Randie. And I bet a lot of males would love to review skin care and hair/beard care!

    • Agree but I think there’s 3 or used to be 3 POC 😉

    • I’d love to see more POC reviewing beauty boxes. Not all makeup and skincare products that work for fair-skinned folks work for people with deeper skin tones (and vice versa). It would also be interesting to see how boxes like Ipsy and Boxycharm, which supposedly follow a profile, choose products for someone with a medium or deep complexion.

    • I agree!

    • Yeah, I remember there being several at one point. I wonder what happened.

    • Hi Joy – Not the Other One!
I love your comment. I’m fair skinned and sometimes wonder if Desiree’s great Boxy tutorial looks would look nearly as good on me. I’m sure there would be people of colour who have to wonder the same thing about most of the makeup swatches on MSA. I love all the MSA reviewers (like you) but I think there’s great potential in having reviews by WOC, maybe even especially if they are reviewing the same (especially makeup) subs given the number of variations subscribers receive. I would love it! MSA is like my no.1 reading hobby right now, and there can never be too many reviews for me. I have to say, too, that I would love Ragan to do a second review on every skincare sub….just love her way of reviewing everything with some pretty deep chemistry insights and a single raised eyebrow…..

    • As a WOC, I could not agree with you more. I always wonder, when I see swatches, how they would look on my tan skin tone. I typically have to do a further internet search to see certain shades on different skin tones, as all but one of the reviewers I read on here are on fair-toned women. I was literally just thinking about this yesterday. Thank you so much for speaking up on this with class and respect. I hope your comment is reviewed and changes are made for more inclusivity on MSA.

    • Yes! That was one of my comments on the survey they had! I really enjoy reading reviews, but I wish there was some diversity on this site. I’m Latinx and I’m always thinking that with the Spiritu box! There are also some great subs out there for WOC and it would be nice to see them reviewed regularly again.

    • I completely agree! It would be nice to see a variety of reviewers of different colors, sexes, even transgender. There has to be others out there. Make up looks different on different people and same with some of the other boxes. I definitely want to see more diversity on this website. I actually have been going the Youtube route and found many diverse beauty gurus that I love watching because it helps me make decisions on what I want to purchase.

    • As a woman of color, I completely understand. I’d love to see more diversity in the reviews since many of the boxes give similar products which work differently from person to person.

  5. Another great review and a really great look! you’re so pretty, lol

    • Thank you so much, Lisa!

  6. The palette is lovely!

  7. Love the pink shadow on you!

    • Thank you, Amy In KC!

  8. That look is beautiful on you.

    • Thank you so much, Ronda!

  9. I really love the eye look you did! I ended up passing on this box after being on the fence for a while, but I do plan on picking up the Suva palette at some point. I’m a sucker for pink shadows.

    • Thanks, Charlotte!
