The Clean Beauty Box April/May 2020 "Fresh" Review

Each month, The Clean Beauty Box features an artist to design their box and info booklet. The latest features a soft pale-colored botanical print by freelance illustrator, Zoe Wodarz. The booklet will announce the theme, featured brands (this time there are 2!), highlight each featured product, and how to use it.

Malaya Organics Firming Eye Serum Stem Cell & Peptide Complex, Full-Size 0.27 oz. - Retail Value $75.00

While I don't always feel the need to use eye products like this, I can't help but be drawn to it. The rollerball makes this super easy to apply under and around my eyes before bed, and the rich oil really feels nice on my delicate skin. The serum has a very light oily feel and a delicate botanical scent that I find very lovely. Kakadu plum supplies a high vitamin C content, botanical stem cells are anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, and prickly pear seed oil moisturizes while it brightens. The caffeine found in the green coffee bean oil will help depuff but if you need extra help, popping this into a skincare (or regular sized) fridge will enhance the effect. I'll be holding on to this serum to see how it performs over time, but the ritual itself is highly enjoyable.

Dafna's Personal Skincare Recovery Cleanser, Full-Size 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $45.00

I love receiving new cleansers in subscription boxes and have yet to try any products from this brand. Dafna's calls their pot of balm-to-milk cleanser a "recovery cleanser" since it's ingredients will help rejuvenate (moringa seed oil), balance (squalane), and maintain my skin's health (bamboo extract) during and after use. It can also be used as an overnight mask when applied in a thin layer on the skin before bed. I find the orange and rosemary essential oils give it a pleasing aroma that isn't overdone and the overall experience while cleansing is gentle and feels really moisturizing. This isn't a cleanser that will strip away anything without putting it back. Sometimes I desire a more aggressive clean, but if you have sensitive or dry skin, this will surely knock your socks off.

Verdict: Clean Beauty Box favors quality over quantity and it shows. They sent two products this month that cover two important areas of skincare: cleansing and protecting the delicate area around the eye. Glass packaging always impresses me, but the products within need to back it up to make it worthwhile and I think these both deliver. The cleanser is a little gentle for my tastes and I like a more aggressive clean, but this is great for removing makeup if you don't want to use a pure oil cleanser and it really hydrates. The total value of this box is $120 which is three times the cost.
