Sweet Sparkle April 2020 Review

Dome Beauty Eye Jewels in Ruby Red – Retail Value $25

Playing with different textures on the eyes can be really fun and can change up your look significantly compared to powder shadows. This has a nice shimmer to it; it also lasted much longer than a shimmer shadow normally does on my eyelids. It was a relief to me that this wet jelly shadow dried quickly on the eye and didn't rub off when I curled my lashes. The color is hard to describe, but I would say it is a metallic red-purple-taupe. Instead of using this as an all-over shadow, I used an angled eyeliner brush to apply this and was able to layer up for an opaque liner look.

J. Cat Make Up Setting Spray, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $7.99

I like that Sweet Sparkle branched out a little by sending a setting spray. This one by J. Cat has aloe vera, cucumber and glycerin to moisturize and revitalize your makeup looks. I didn't notice my makeup lasting any longer than usual, but I did notice that this spray added a little friendly shine to my face. There is a very faint fragrance to this spray, but I barely noticed it right after applying.

Oh K! Cucumber Sheet Mask - Retail Value $2.99

Oh K!'s hydrating face mask includes a moisturizing mix of cucumber, green tea, and aloe to plump up dry, stressed-out skin. This mask was very ill-fitting for my face shape, and it seemed to slip around more than a lot of sheet masks I've tried. The fragrance was refreshing and the mask was very cooling when first applied. After wearing it for 10 minutes, I rubbed the excess serum into my skin, and my face felt a little more hydrated than before.

J. Cat Diamond Lust Lip Gloss in Rose Glisten - Retail Value $3.99

To me, there is nothing like a shimmering gloss for a juicy looking lip look; it is my favorite type of lip product. I am also impressed by the pigment in this gloss, such a pretty color! Vitamin E helps condition your lips and keeps your lips comfortable for a few hours before needing another application. I didn't find this to be sticky at all, and I enjoyed the vanilla flavor as well.

TONYMOLY Petit Bunny Gloss Bar in Juicy Grape - Retail Value $8

I reviewed this product in my January 2019 Sweet Sparkle review, and here is what I had to say about it then:

TONYMOLY always has the best packaging! I love sheet masks and hand creams from this brand, so I was excited to try this Gloss Bar in Juicy Grape. The grape flavor (yes, you can taste it!) reminds me of a purple lollipop, and I love the moisturizing tint left on my lips. Plus, of course, I am excited to have this Petite Bunny by my side!

I feel the same way about it today, except now I have two bunny friends! I would have liked a different flavor to try, but I love the color of Juicy Grape's mauve sheen.

Swatches of the makeup (top to bottom): TONYMOLY Gloss Bar in Juicy Grape, Dome Beauty Eye Jewel in Ruby Red, J. Cat Diamond Lust Gloss in Glistening Rose

Here is the look I came up with using all of the products from this month’s box. Nobody poke fun at my quarantine bang-trim! 😉 There weren't too many color products this month, but the gloss and the eyeshadow helped me build a very wearable look.

Verdict: April's Sweet Sparkle was a pretty good fit for me this month! Although I already have the bunny gloss from a previous box, I enjoyed revisiting this gem. The lip gloss has awesome color payoff and shine, and I even enjoyed the color of the eye product, too! This month’s retail value came to $47.97; that is almost double the box cost, which is a pretty good value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Your first box will be the current month’s box. So if you sign up in the month of April, you will get the April box, etc.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Such a pretty look! Love how the shadow matches your top. Also, your bangs look super cute, like intentionally fringey.

Thank you! I haven’t had my bangs cut professionally since January, and I am guilty of chopping a little almost every day. Hopefully, by the end of quarantine, I will be a bang-trimming pro!

I like the contents of this month’s box better than the last couple but still think $25 could be spend so much better with a different subscription that offers higher quality products.

More than half of the retail value of this box is made up by one single pot of eyeshadow. The rest of the items are rather inexpensive, so this doesn’t seem like a good value at all, especially when you factor in the repeat item, the single sheet mask, the sample size liquid lip, and a mediocre setting spray.

Agree. For this price, Boxycharm gives you a way better payoff. How can this box still keep going?
