Macy's Beauty Box April 2020 Review

Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included, a pro tip, and your $5.00 beauty coupon code to be used at Macy's stores or online.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum,  0.33 fl oz – Estimated Value $26.07 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $79.00)

Caudalie is one of my favorite beauty brands (their Grape Water mist is one of my HG products!). I have tried this super light-weight serum before and also love it, so I appreciate this rather generous sample size. This serum is on the watery side, meaning a little goes a long way. It is also nicely moisturizing, and a perfect base for makeup, IMO. This is also a serum that is great for fading dark spots and brightening your complexion all over.

Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules, 7 count - Estimated Value $11.20 (Buy a full-size 30 pack for $48.00)

These little capsules always feel so fancy! And who doesn't love a pre-portioned product? Inside is a heavier gel with anti-aging ceramides inside. This is the sort of formula that doesn't entirely absorb (at least not on my face) so I like to save these capsules for evening treatments. I always find there is way more than enough for just my face so I like to use the rest on my hands and neck, two other areas that I like to give a little anti-aging boost!

PÜR Lit Mist Illuminating Setting Spray, 0.06 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.36 (Buy a full-size 4 fl oz for $24.00)

I have mixed feelings about this setting spray, but some of that might stem from the fact that the mister on this sample just wasn't great and sprayed smaller bursts of this formula onto smaller areas of my face instead of a general light misting. It does give staying power to makeup and add a little radiance, but I would have to try out the actual full-size nozzle before I committed to this one.

Coola Tan Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum, 0.34 fl oz - Estimated Value $10.80 (Buy a full-size 1.7 fl oz for $54.00)

I absolutely love the Coola brand, but I am not into self-tanners. If I was though, I bet I would like this product. It is an anti-aging serum sort of gel with a light and natural tropical scent that I didn't hate.

Ahava Purifying Mud Mask, 0.68 fl oz - Estimated Value $7.00 (Buy a full-size 3.4 fl oz for $35.00)

Generally speaking, my skin is really dry. I tend to avoid clay masks but ever since I began working from home I feel really greasy, for no apparent reason. I have been using some clay masks as spot treatments, so this will find a home in that collection. I like that this is a mask I can leave on for just 2 minutes instead of longer, meaning I can get the purifying and oil-minimizing results without actually drying out my face.

Lancôme Idôle Le Parfum Coffret, 0.17 fl oz - Estimated Value $9.80 (Buy 1.7 fl oz for $98.00)

I actually quite like this perfume, though it is not something I would personally wear. It has really fresh and girly notes of roses, apples, pears, and a little musk. It is fun, easy, and uncomplicated. I tend to like odd scents on myself, but I think if I was near someone wearing this I would just love it. I also really like that a little coffret size was sent. This feels a lot more special than the normal fragrance spray samples.

COACH Dreams Eau de Parfum, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.91 (Buy 1.3 fl oz for $62.00)

I don't generally vibe with tons of Coach perfumes, but there is something about this one I quite like. I think it is because it has a few desert sort of notes in there (cactus flower) as well as gardenia (a love of mine), fruits, powder, and a little wood. Although it doesn't really smell like Arizona by Proenza Schouler, they could certainly be cousins. I already own Arizona and do like it more, but this is a lighter and less complicated scent that I can see loads of people loving.

COACH FOR MEN Eau de Toilette, 0.06 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.01 (Buy 2 fl oz for $67.00)

Of course, I love this cologne so much more than the perfume. I, admittedly, wear quite a few men's fragrances. This one is a dream. Think ambergris, bergamot, some fruit, a little lavender, and a hint of leather. Yum. Totally fresh yet somehow like being in a fancy library. Count me in.

Hair Clips

Instead of a bag, this month arrived with two very cute hair clips. I have kind of been wanting to buy into this trend, but never actually bought myself any. I could absolutely see myself wearing either of these with a cute side part or keeping all my baby bangs in check while rocking a topknot.

Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box has an estimated value of $69.15 even without the hair clips, making this a really great value for a $15 bag. The only item I wasn't into was the self-tanner, but it is the season for such things, and everything else totally made up for it. I really loved that there were 3 perfumes and a coffret! I also thought the skincare brands and formulas were top notch. I actually think this is one of the best Macy's boxes yet, which makes the fact that it is now on hold even sadder. Fingers crossed for a someday return, right?

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I joined the waiting list for the Macy’s beauty box on the 5th of September and on the 7th, I received an email saying that a space had opened for me to join. I subscribed that same day and was charged for the October box that same day as well, which surprised me because I thought I would be charged for the October box in October. I decided to cancel my subscription yesterday on the 25th, I cancelled it at 1pm in the afternoon and received an email confirming my cancellation. But I was still charged for the October box again around 5pm that same day, even though I already cancelled!!! I’ve tried sending an email but I received an automated response saying that their customer Service agents can’t help via email. I’ve tried contacting them but I haven’t been able to reach them!!
Can someone please help me with this? Because they keep charging me even after I’ve cancelled, and I received an email saying the October box is out of stock so clearly I’m not going to receive it. Why was I charged twice for the October box??!! I’ll be contacting my bank as well too and report this incident, and block them from taking any further money from my account!!! Can someone please help me because I can’t seem to get an answer from Macy’s themselves. Why was I charged twice in the same month (around $30 in total) for a box I never received, and why was I charged even after I cancelled my subscription?

The same thing happened to me! They charged me twice for the October box and they charged me even after I cancelled. I received an email saying the October box is out of stock so I don’t think I’ll receive it anytime soon.

Coranne

Boxes are shipping starting October 5th.

I just came here to see if anyone was talking about this. I just received an email thanking me for my payment for the October 2020 box (I’d been signed up prior to them ending the sub)

Has anyone got any information about this box coming back?? I’ve been subbed since the very first Macys box. The odd thing, they had a box before and then just quit. No info or help. Then they come back a couple years later….when I ling I to my account its showing that the “Macys box sign up is full” and that my payment is pending for this month for the August box.

I was looking forward to the jo malone, as I like to smell new perfume since I don’t live near a store to go in and try…but I dont care of they skip that one and just come back as they were. This has honesty been one of my favourite subs that I have found amazing products perfume/makeup/skincare from, and I always made sure to go back and support Macy’s to buy the products if they worked for me, since I found them through their box (I do this with all my subs).

I did see the post about a “sun kit” but I keep vampire hours and dont use or have need for sun stuff. I know the store was having issues anyway, they changed the 5/10 dollar cards that are sent with the box to minimum order/shipping so I hope they stay around. They closed down the physical store in my area about 7 years ago sadly.

I saw that too- the website changed. Back in May it said the box was suspended for covid. Now that has changed and it said payment is wxoected to come out by the 10th of August. I wonder if this means they are starting back up.

Jamey, I emailed customer service at Macy’s today and they did not have any date regarding the beauty box coming back. They are sent from California and they have more restrictions than other places so not hopeful that it will be soon unfortunately. I was looking forward to the Jo Malone box.

Shari

I signed up really hoping to get the Jo Malone. It just seems they canceled the box quickly, however not before they got your E-mail and are flooding my box with Macy Adverts. I guess I will hit unsubscribe 🙁

Has anyone simply asked them if the JM box will be later?

I subbed in late March for the May Jo Malone box and then they freeze the subscription service. I just checked my account and it says I should be receiving June’s box between May 28th and June 8th. Ummm where is my Jo Malone box. Hopefully they just pushed May’s box to June. A lot of people are going to be super mad if they don’t. Bait n switch. Fingers crossed.

Wait, I heard they were stopping the box due to the coronavirus . Abby (Abadabas or something like that) on YouTube said she got an email that Match was the last box.

Nat

April was the last box

Saima

I signed up for May, I just checked my account and it says pending. I didn’t receive any email for cancellation.

Hillary

I signed up and paid for May before they suspended the sub. Are they refunding or waiting to send the May box at a later date. Anyone have more info?

Reply ButtonReply

Giselle

Even though you paid the charge should have fallen off. I was initially charged at first. It stayed at pending then eventually was dropped. Check your statements and balance.

Reply ButtonReply

Nat

I would contact customer service. I am a long time subscriber and I wasn’t charged for May box.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

They never charged for May.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

I love the barrettes!

Lizc

I’m a new subscriber, but it my account it’s showing next box is June and when the billing will be, so are you longer term subscribers showing that as well? No word if June box will be the May Jo Malone box?

Nat

I loved that men’s cologne! Getting a full size bottle to wear it for myself. Also big fan of those hair clips. I miss you Macy’s beauty box. Hope you come back soon.

Joan

Those clips came in handy as I had to give my husband a quarantine cut! 😆

Weird how they promoted this huge jo malone box and then…gone.

Tina

I didn’t even realize it was suspended! I signed up because of the jo malone box and never got an email that it is suspended!

I signed up for that too, first time for Macy’s. At the end of the transaction I got the “success” notification, and I was so-o excited! I saw the next day that there had been a flat $15 charge (no tax) and then a credit to my bank acct of the same amount – but no explanation about anything. So I tried ordering again the following Monday, and again rec’d the “success” notification, and again my bank showed a flat $15 debit and then credit of the same. I never got any information or email or anything about the suspension of the beauty box. I, too, learned about this by accident from MSA. (Thank you MSA!! Crummy news, but at least you guys said *something* to us.) I’d been keeping an eye on Macy’s box for quite a while but the Jo Malone collab or takeover got me so excited and my hands were shaking when setting up the sub for it. So sad 😫

Laura

I think it was handled poorly. I never received an email on either of my accounts – I only knew about it being canceled by hearing about it on here.

h

Agreed. I started a subscription at that point, after having been subscribed since it started and ended it about a year ago. It was a little annoying to have entered a new credit card, etc, a lot of personal information when I KNOW that they have to have had an inkling that it was a possibility or strong likelihood that it would happen.

Thank you for the review.

CJ

Yeah I am pretty sad about the Jo Malone box.

JuJu

Yeah, wasn’t that something…

I wonder if we’ll EVER see it at this point.

Nice review as usual Meghan.. I signed up for May box and subscription was suspended. But I would have loved to receive this box as well.. hoping this would be available for purchase someday with beauty purchase.

A very good value this month. Stuck at home I am trying self tanners for the first time. Who cares if I mess up? No one can really see except the family!
