FabFitFun Summer 2020 Review

FabFitFun sends out a mini mag in each box. It details the items included and also provides background on some of the featured makers and designers. You'll also find exclusive coupons for the brands featured in the box.

Let's see what is inside! (If you aren't familiar, FabFitFun lets subscribers pick several of their items each season - I'll show you what I picked for each selection.)

First choice item:

Choice 1 – All members get the chance to customize these options in their box.

  • 1A. Draper James Straw Bag with Floral Scarf $75
  • 1B. L*SPACE Tie Dye Towel $58
  • 1C. Pottery Barn Mason Ceramic Diffuser in Solstice* $59
  • 1D. Yumi Kim Wireless Charging Pad $35
  • 1E. Do Not Age with dr. brandt® TRIPLE PEPTIDE EYE CREAM $82
  • 1F. LashesMD® Eyelash Conditioner $69.95

My Pick:

Draper James Straw Bag with Floral Scarf - Retail Value $75.00

(Measures 15.5 inches wide and 10 inches tall, without the straps!)

I was really torn for this first selection because I was eyeing the charger for myself, but I knew my mom would LOVE the straw bag. It is from Draper James, a fashion label by Reese Witherspoon. My mom is a HUGE Reese fan! The scarf also has her favorite flower, the Magnolia, on it. I mean, I kind of had to, right? It is much roomier inside than I first thought, mostly due to the oval-shaped bottom that is harder to appreciate in photos. The inside is also fully lined with a navy fabric and there is also a little zipper pocket for all of her more important items. I found that this could easily be an over-the-shoulder bag or one you carry in the crook of your arm.

My scarf was removable, and made a pretty cute headband! It is about 50 inches long and three inches wide. (Thanks for asking, Dani!)

Second choice item:

Choice 2 – All members get the chance to customize these options in their box.

  • 2A. Michael Kors Bedford Travel Passport Wallet $78
  • 2B. Business & Pleasure Co.™ Cooler Bag $59
  • 2C. HydroPeptide® Moisture Reset Face Oil $120
  • 2D. Isaac Mizrahi Blue and White Kimono $59
  • 2E. R+Co TELEVISION Perfect Hair Shampoo + Conditioner $64

My Pick:

Business & Pleasure Co. Cooler Bag - Listed Value $59.00

(Dimensions: 12.5” Lx 8.5” W x 8” H)

Will and I do a ton of fishing in the spring and summer, and we are always lugging around lukewarm water since we have never invested in a decent cooler. Well, I guess we will be enjoying chilled refreshments from now on! This cooler bag is just plain cute! I love that happy yellow stripes and the heavier canvas fabric. The inside is lined in a plastic that will keep everything chilled and the canvas strap feels very sturdy. I love that this is also a great size for a lunchbox if you tend to take an oversized meal with you (as Will always does!).

Third choice item:

Choice 3 – All members get the chance to customize these options in their box.

  • 3A. The Giving Keys Mini Key Necklace $45
  • 3B. COOLA® Mineral Face Organic Matte Finish Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30* $36 U.S. only.
  • 3C. COOLA® Mineral Face Matte Finish Cucumber Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30* $36 Canada only.
  • 3D. TOMS Sydney Sunglasses $58
  • 3E. BLAQ Peel Off Mask + HydroGel Eye Mask with Hyaluronic Acid $59
  • 3F. Kate Somerville® Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream $65
  • 3G. Drybar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler $23

My Pick:

TOMS Sydney Sunglasses - Retail Value $68.00

I am a sucker for an oversized black pair of sunglasses. They make me feel very chic and also hide lots of my face from the sun, two winning attributes. These sunnies by TOMS also have lenses that provide 100% UVA/UVB protection, a must-have for my sensitive eyes. The frame is a lightweight and flexible plastic with a matte finish. The arms feature the easy to recognize TOMS stripes, giving these black sunglasses just a little something extra.

I love how oversized these are. Perfect for hiding from the sun. As I was doing inside my office when I snapped this selfie.

Fourth choice item:

Only Annual Members get to customize these options in their box. Otherwise, FabFitFun will choose the best option for you.

  • 4A. Terre Mère Aloe and Tea Tree Toner* $54
  • 4B. Zoë Ayla® Ice Roller $30
  • 4C. Silked Satin Pillow Sleeve $29.50

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

Terre Mère Aloe and Tea Tree Toner, 5 fl oz - Retail Value $54.00

I love, love, love toners, and go through absolutely too many of them. It is just a nice, refreshing, midday pick-me-up, especially if you chill yours in the fridge first! This formula has two of my favorite cooling and clarifying ingredients: tea tree and aloe. It is super gentle and calming to my skin and has a soft clean scent that is refreshing. Extra points for including a little stopper tab inside the cap, which will help prevent leaks!

Fifth choice item:

Only Annual Members get to customize these options in their box. Otherwise, FabFitFun will choose the best option for you.

  • 5A. Isaac Mizrahi Loves xo, Sienna Vase $28
  • 5B. The Lyfestyle Co. Beach Mist $42
  • 5C. amika Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray $25
  • 5D. grace & stella Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum $25

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

Isaac Mizrahi Loves xo, Sienna Vase - Listed Value $28.00

Since I will likely be working from home for quite a while, I have been taking an extra-long look at my office space and trying to make it, well, prettier! This vase grabbed my attention because I loved the pale pink and white combo, and I thought the chubby design was very cute. I am excited to stash spring and summer flowers inside to brighten up my office.

Now that we've gone through all the choice options, all subscribers will get 3 additional items that FabFitFun picks for them.

FabFitFun will surprise you with three items from this category.

  • Riddle™ Oil Original Roll On $50
  • WINKY LUX Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil $16
  • Cali Cosmetics Foot Cream with Menthol in Tarocco $24
  • MakeupDrop™ Hybrid Makeup Applicator $20
  • Murad® Essential-C Cleanser $40
  • Spongellé Coconut Verbena Hand Cream $18
  • Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Mask 6 Pack $25

I received:

WINKY LUX Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil - Retail Value $16.00

A universal brow pencil? Is this possible? Maybe. This pencil has a triangular wedge shape on one end and a capped spoolie on the other. The shade itself is a very cool brown that is buildable. I liked the color on my own brows, though I did have to use a lighter hand. The spoolie helps comb the tint and brow hairs into a much more natural look. I did like this a lot! Will it replace my Glossier Boy Brow? Nah. But if you prefer a waxy pencil type of brow product, this is a good one!

Kind of a soft, cooler brown.

MakeupDrop Hybrid Makeup Applicator - Retail Value $20.00

Sometimes I like to use a damp sponge for a dewy foundation finish, but sometimes I love the feeling of a flat silicone applicator. This clever little tool has both! The flat plane is actually a soft silicone layer, meaning you can pat on your makeup with this surface then blend and diffuse it with the sponge. Genius! I will be using this a lot!

Spongellé Coconut Verbena Hand Cream, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $18.00

I know we all have dry hands right now, and while I love the texture of this cream I don't love the tropical, very coconutty scent. That is a-okay though because my friend Julie will adore this! I hope it can mentally transport her to the beach trip she had to recently cancel.

Verdict: This box has a value of $225-$477+ depending on which items you receive. That feels like quite the value for a $49.99 box. This was my first FFF and though I found it a little confusing at first, I am kind of totally hooked. I think picking the items was half the fun, and though most of these were for myself, I totally think this would be a great box to "shop" for gifts as well as snag really great deals for yourself. My favorite items from this box? Hmm!! I think I would have to say the cooler bag, the toner, or that little pink vase. Everything in here was pretty great, making it hard to choose just one. Overall, the value is totally here and I am stoked to have some new items for summer and beyond.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As publication, yes! (You'll be able to make your product selections after you sign up.)

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I just got my box. It included a ceramic tray that isn’t even listed as an option….?!?! Anyone else?

Also, because the box was not shipped inside another box, the picture/drawing on it is ruined. So much for collecting the boxes.

I spent quite a bit on add-ons. Signed up to be an annual member and bought the summer box. Have not gotten anything and when I try to find out any information I get lied to I was told it would ship within 30 days I bought it May 11th it is June 19th. When I call to ask to speak to a manager you wait forever and then they hang up on you. I have written the VIP email since I am now supposedly a VIP nobody even writes me back if this is how I was treated and I have spent near $800 because of all the add-ons I bought how will you be treated just buying a box???
They used to be wonderful years ago I don’t know if the company has been sold or the management trust doesn’t care about customer service anymore. In my opinion and a lot of other people if you go to their Facebook you will see quite a few people complaining about not getting their boxes if you want to waste your money go for it but I would advise you to go to Facebook and see how many people are disappointed and not gotten their boxes or got an empty boxes it’s a nightmare.
I will change this review in all fairness if my box ever gets here with my $475 worth of add-ons and the picks that I chose!

Couldn’t agree more! I am still waiting for my box. I think that FFF forgot where they came from. The same people that you see going up the ladder are the same people you see going down. Their CS is not helpful, the products are all licensed out and made in China. The shipping is ridiculously long. Doesn’t matter if your annual or select. Most of the people from the community have left for the above reasons and FFF stance on bullying ( it’s okay to bully people) They play favorites . They are not transparent like they claim to be and from what I understand their employees aren’t that happy with them.
I just canceled.

They are telling me that FedEx has it even though FedEx is saying pending waiting for the box I just called FedEx and they said they do not have the box a label was created. So I guess I’ll wait till Tuesday and see if it updates any. This is definitely not the way my friend told me things were in the past.

Lisha

Hey everyone! Has absolutely anyone subscribed recently? I would love that R&Co shampoo, conditioner set but I’m too afraid to gamble and them not have it. This is a great box with some great brands and choices, I would love to know what they have left since you can still get this box, thanks!

I re-signed up after seeing the fall teasers and found out that I will be getting a summer box. was told that it cannot be changed to a fall box as that one is not available. All was run thru w/i 4 days and so I am very skeptical of their response. Cannot recommend them to anybody. Did a chat w/ them and they will not accept returns unless I pay for it, so I will be paying for it

Marina

Don’t do it I’ve wasted a ton of money my box has not been shipped I have tried to contact customer service they do not reply to you they will lie to you. Unless you want to waste your money. They were good in the past wonderful customer service I don’t know if they sold their company but don’t do it I’m warning you you will regret it.

Bummed…of 3 family members and 3 annual subscriber boxes we are all getting the cheaper 3 FFF choices: foot cream, brow pencil and Spongelle lotion. Did anyone get the fragrance roller or otherwise? What are the odds? I spend a small fortune with FFF, feels suspect that only a chosen few get the better items if any.

Reply ButtonReply

Marina

Be happy you got your box if you go on Facebook there are many people that did not get their box including me and I spent $475 on add-ons became an annual member and they are totally ignoring me and when I go to chat they lie if they treat somebody that spent near $800 like this how will they treat someone that just bought one box

Reply ButtonReply

Debbi

I as well received the 3 lesser options and have been an annual subscriber for 3 years.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle Foster

I got two boxes and they were exactly the same with the three lesser options.

Reply ButtonReply

Brittany

I’m bummed I’m getting the eyebrow pencil, foot cream, and hand cream for the last 3. The only 3 products I didn’t want.

Reply ButtonReply

Christy

Out of the last group of items (where FFF “chooses” for you) there were 3 items that I didn’t want and I got two of them. Bummed.

Reply ButtonReply

SquirrelyGirl

We picked all the same things 🙂 I wonder if I will get the same 3 additional items as you. I was kind of hoping for the first three on the list, but we shall see.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I was secretly really hoping for the perfume, but my three options weren’t bad! I also honestly could bathe in the amount fo perfume I own, but I have a habit! Hope you enjoy your box as much as I did!

Reply ButtonReply

Jena

This is my dream box! I’m only a seasonal subscriber and picked the same three things, and want all of the same additional choices. Do you think this is an indication that those are the items they are picking for these particular box options? Or is it random?

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Jena! This was my first box and I am guessing the three items are truly random, but I have my fingers crossed for you!

Reply ButtonReply

Jodi

I hope I don’t get the eyebrow stick. I don’t even pluck my eyebrows.

Reply ButtonReply

Jade

Awesome review! Does the purse feel like it will hold up for a while? I picked the straw purse from Causebox last year but it started to unravel almost immediately by the threading. I think I remember reading that the fabfitfun one is made of paper.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

It feels pretty solid Jade. The straps are also well attached! I think as long as it never got saturated with liquid it would last a long time, especially since it is fully lined which makes it feel more substantial!

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

Jade, I have a hat like this, made out of paper. It’s not like normal paper; it’s fibrous, dense, and thick. You can get water on it and it will dry with no issues. You can rethread by hand or have a tailor fix it for like $10.

Reply ButtonReply

Jade

Ah, thanks! That is very helpful. 🙂

Sherry

I’m in the process of canceling almost every subscription box I have except this one. This is the ONLY ONE that allows you to choose the items you want. Every other beauty box is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get. When I’m paying for something, I think I should get exactly what I want, yes?

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

I think it’s reasonable to expect a box to allow me to choose things that feels like I’m getting my money’s worth for at least the value that I’m paying, not counting inflating values; anything beyond that is an extra. That’s what I meant by that statement. Most boxes now do this btw. Whether someone feels like they got their $$s worth is another issue and subjective.

Reply ButtonReply

bunnygirlbrem

Causebox lets you choose almost everything, too. And it’s about the same price.

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

Thanks for this info bunny. I may sign up at a later date because I already have the PMD from boxy.

Kelly

So the box was sent at no cost but yet FFF allowed you to pick what items you wanted? Hmmmmm. Interesting.

Reply ButtonReply

Redhed36

They used to send MSA all the items to photograph and review. Now they are only getting the items within a regular box. Times have changed.

Reply ButtonReply

Cait

Its a loss for them either way, why not allow the reviewer to receive stuff they will use/ actually like? These reviews help drive business to the company, I think its smart that they allowed her to choose what she wanted.

Reply ButtonReply

Randi

I don’t even like the color pink, but I’m low-key hoping for the vase.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

It is the sort of soft pink anyone could love, at least I think. I am biased though… I adore blush shades! Hope it arrives in your box. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kc

What a great review! I love all of the pictures and details you included, as well as mentioning the lotion can remind your friend of a canceled beach vacay- were in a weird time and it helps to find community on this site. I can’t wait to get my box!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Thanks Kc! It was my first for this box so I am glad for the positive feedback. <3

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

I am annual subscriber and every single pick was different than mine lol. Mine has not shipped yet so no clue what my FFF picks are but hoping for Murad, perfume, and foot cream. I am ok with make up drop to since I found out you can put in freezer and use to apply skin care. I can use it to apply face oil.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Um, that makeup drop tip is GENIUS. Thank you! Hope you get the surprises you are hoping for. Let me know what you think of the perfume if you get it!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

Whoa what a cool idea. I hadn’t thought to use it to apply skincare, just make up. And since I don’t often wear foundation, my make up drop has gone unused. I’m gonna go put mine in the freezer right now…

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

Ladies, these are great ideas. The box companies should be including these kinds of tips for us so that we don’t feel so robbed when we don’t get what we wanted.

Amy

Great idea for the make-up drop!

Reply ButtonReply

FabSB

I just wish that cooler bag was in virtually any other color. Blue would have been perfect.

Reply ButtonReply

pb

FABSB – you would have loved PSMH monthly boxes, every item was always blue back in the old days, we need a petition to bring it back!

this box looks nice!

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

Agree! I didn’t choose it just because of the color.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Agreed, FabSB…or at least give us a choice. I think their customization program would go better simply with color choices/designs.

Reply ButtonReply

Sibel

Can anyone tell me what items are sold out? Trying to decide if I want to sign up or not! I wanted to try to get the shampoo set, tye dye towel, and prep rally… Thanks if anyone lets me know! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Makenzie

I just customized and got all the same items you want. They’re still in stock but say limited supply

Reply ButtonReply

Sookie

When you customized were you able to add on additional choices?

Meghan

Just the kimono is sold out when I made my choices

Reply ButtonReply

Martina

I just pick the item, as I just saw the shampoo set, dry towel and prep are all there, but under limit quantity.

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

Great review, Megan! I especially appreciate you including a photo of you wearing the bag. It’s such a gamble when you order bags without knowing if the straps are long enough to be worn comfortably over your shoulder. I do have a question though. I’ve been trying to find an answer through multiple sites including videos from FFF with no luck.
I know the scarf is removable but is it versatile enough to actually repurpose it and wear it like a headband? I know sometimes things like this have extra stitching to keep the bow tied. If you could solve this mystery for me I’d really appreciate it! Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Dani! I got you! Mine was not attached with any stitching and removing it was as simple as untying the bow. I found it wrapped around my head twice with just enough on the ends to tie behind my head. I should mention I have a bigger noggin! It is 50 inches long, and about three inches wide. I also added a picture to the review for you! <3

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

Thanks, Megan! You’re the best!

Jody

This looks like a fun box all around for the value. I would have picked that vase, cooler and toner too!

Reply ButtonReply

Jeannette

I actually got a shipping notice a few days ago. I am excited to get my box. Great review. I didn’t pick any of the items Megan did so I appreciate seeing them in detail.

Reply ButtonReply

Sam

Great box! I am hoping to get the first three items on the FFF pick.

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

This box had a ton of great choices for us to pick but I don’t care much for any of the items that will be picked for us. I definitely can’t use the brow product as it’s way too dark for me like all similar products in subscription boxes always are. I already have two still new Murad cleansers from sub boxes and I can’t stand those Wander eye masks. I’ve received them countless times in so many different boxes and I find them to be dry and tight-feeling. I’m fairly neutral about the other options but with my luck I’ll get all three that I can’t use or gift. Luckily the value is still there because I really like several of the items I got to pick. This is by far the best box they’ve had in quite a while. Historically the Summer boxes tend to be the best but I really hope they can keep it up over the other upcoming seasons.

Reply ButtonReply

Shari

I only saw that the kimono was sold out.

Cindy

Awesome, thanks for the great review, Megan! I am anxiously awaiting shipping notification for my box. I selected the Draper James bag, R+Co shampoo and conditioner set, Giving Keys Mini Necklace, Satin Pillow sleeve and the vase. For Add-ons, I also managed to snag another Unhide Lil Marshmallow to give to my kids so I don’t have to share mine anymore 😉 I also tried the “Box Boost” for the first time and got the Grown Alchemy set – but I got an email from FFF saying it was delayed so it’ll ship later separately from my box.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Thank you Cindy! I love that shampoo and conditioner so I hope you do too. R+Co is such a great brand. Hope you love your box!
