Beauty Heroes May 2020 Review Feat. Bathing Culture

*A note about the delivery about this box: May was delayed while waiting for a pump that is meant to be included for the body wash. Beauty Heroes sent our box without the pump so that we could provide an earlier review. This box, however, is now sold out. Please note that current subscriber boxes should be going out next week, per Beauty Heroes' Instagram post and detailed subscriber email.

You'll always get a card with a new monthly ritual that includes past and present featured Beauty Heroes items.

The second info card you'll get has a little more info about the featured brand, Bathing Culture, as well as details on the three items sent.

Bathing Culture Mind and Body Wash, 16 oz. - Retail Value $35.00

I am beyond excited about this body wash. The rainbow print on the bottle alone makes me so happy and I love that this large size is available with the idea that it can be refilled instead of discarded. Sadly, the shops with refill stations are few and far between but as luck would have it, there is one in my hometown of Cleveland, so I'll be toting this back with me next time I visit my parents and need to re-up. You can also buy a gallon on their website if you have $175 to spend on bulk body wash. I thought it was curious that this came without a pump until I saw that shipping to subscribers was being held up for that very reason. I thought for sure if I scrounged through my beauty items well enough I could find something, but so far no dice. I'm still able to enjoy this wash in the shower if I carefully pour some into my sponge of choice. How do I even describe the perfect aroma of this body wash? It's woody, a little spicy, and just... heaven. The lather I get from it is really nice, and it rinses clean while leaving just a touch of the amazing scent on my skin, Throughout the day I'll get little whiffs of this and it makes my heart flutter.

Bathing Culture Golden Hour Hydrosol, 3 oz. - Retail Value $20.00

Another fantastic product from Bathing Culture is their golden hour hydrosol. Presumably named after the time they harvest the Moroccan neroli flower and Turkish rose that create the scent (which is dawn), this hydrosol can be used all over as a toner of refresher throughout the day. After using the body wash, I tend to get carried away spraying the fine mist on my face and all over before using the next product that's featured this month. Using the same rainbow-clad glass bottle but in a smaller 3-ounce size, this little spray is ready to travel with me.

Bathing Culture Outer Being Face & Body Oil, 8 oz. - Retail Value $72.00

The final product this month and the hero item is the Outer Being Face & Body Oil. I've never been big on body oil but this one might just turn me. A sister scent to the body wash, this one seems a bit more woody and deep. Topped off with a black plastic pump, this 8-ounce glass bottle mimics the others as the middle child in size and has a golden orange-brown color that resembles apple cider. The oil is not too heavy and is instantly soaked up by my thirsty skin. The scent grows in smokiness as I slather it on and I become simply intoxicated with it. This is my final step before getting dressed now each morning (ok, afternoon) and I don't want it to ever change. In the evening, I'll casually touch my legs to find that they still feel soft and full of hydration even though the scent has softly all but disappeared from my memory. I have fully transformed into a body oil person. And yes, this can be used on my face (sparingly) as well.

Verdict: Pardon my beauty erotica this month but I am just ENCHANTED by Beauty Heroes' featured brand. I truly feel like I am embarking on an exclusive relationship with all three of these products and I don't think that my eye will wander. This is true love- from bathing to toning to gorgeous supple hydration: I'm all yours, Bathing Culture. These three beauties have a retail value of $127 and I am overjoyed that they were featured so lovingly in this under $60 box.

Joy-Not the Other One

Okay so I am wondering if maybe the subscriber’s boxes might have an either/or item this month? Am I crazy or does the info card this month (pictured above) make it seem like we are getting 4 items? There is a picture of bath soak and the bath soak is described on the back of the card as well like it is an included item. Do you think some subscribers might get the soak instead of one of the items pictured here? Or are they just describing & picturing the bath soak on the card as an illustration of something else the company offers? Thanks!

Yep- what Nat said! That is the “Discover it Yourself” card which doesn’t depict what we received, but usually combines some of the featured items with other items available at Beauty Heroes or that we’ve received in past boxes. They happened to feature a fourth Bathing Culture item (the soak) just to show a full routine.
I totally understand the confusion though!

You will not get the soak. It’s typical of this sub to include items on the card that would make a ritual. This month the whole ritual is products from the same company. But usually the ritual and included pictures on the card of products from different companies.

I could just about smell these scents Marne. You described these so well. Now I am doubly excited for this month and the timing seems perfect. Working at home has me taking my walks before 7 am and boy, oh boy.. I can’t wait to start the day with this box and a walk! Thank you!

Thanks for saying, Tanya! I have such a hard time describing scents and try to lean on what the brands say and add any notes I can think of. I hope you love it too!

I was just looking at this brand yesterday and my interest was piqued. Love that there was a review of the brand posted today! Lol

Amy

This is the first month I actually would have loved the products from this sub even though it is pricy! The idea of a glass bottle in my shower stresses me out though so it’s for the best that I won’t be getting this 🙁
Plus I don’t know that I could justify the refills or driving from Pittsburgh to Cleveland just for soap lmao since I don’t have anyone to visit or any other business there currently

Oh gosh, yea. Not saying that a refill for this is worth a 2-hour drive just to get. Definitely a “as luck would have it, I go to Cleveland every other month anyhow”. Hopefully, other subscribers are closer to a refill station in their cities!
I hear you on the glass bottle. I have about 4 glass products in my shower atm and it does make me *extra* careful.

Amy I had the same fear about the glass bottle, plus I share my bathroom with two toddlers! I’ve decided I’ll use it as a hand soap and leave it by the sink, that way if I choose to use in the shower I can just put a pump on my loofah before I get in.

There was a beautiful pop-up underground at one of the places that I used to access the subway coming and going when I was in NYC, staying around Columbus Circle. I wonder if they were in the pop-up. There was one store that looked just like this. Love your descriptions. I can almost smell how lovely these products are.

That sounds like a lovely thing to encounter near the subway!
