Norlii Scandinavian Home & Lifestyle Box April 2020 Review

This month's Norlii is the "Breakfast Edition" and features essentials from Broste Copenhagen for the first meal of the day.

Broste Copenhagen Nordic Sand 15 cm Bowls, set of 2 - Total Retail Value $28.00 ($14.00/ea, on sale for $12.00/ea)

These bowls are the best! My roommate and I are both kind of obsessed with them and they've replaced our other bowls as far as our first go-to. First of all- they're visually appealing with the crackled pale blue glaze and unique finish. Secondly, they are quite deep so they're perfect for not only breakfast but also as soup or rice bowls. Since I don't have a dishwasher, these are consistently being washed and sat to dry in our dish rack only to be snatched right from it to be used again. They are perfect for ramen as well, as seen in one of my recent posts about fave foods from Public Goods.

Broste Copenhagen Tvis Spoons in Black, set of 2 - Total Retail Value $22.00 ($11.00/ea)

Look at how sleek and gorgeous these spoons are! Owning these now, of course, makes me wish I had an entire set but having a beautiful breakfast or even some soup will do for now. After quite a bit of use, these glossy black stainless steel spoons have no sign of wear and are just as lovely as the day I unboxed them. They're also quite large so I can fit a hefty amount of whatever scoopable sustenance I am enjoying.

Danish Granola Company Coconut & Almond Granola, 225 g - Listed Value $10.00

Coconut & almond granola is my favorite, so this is a clear win for me. The Danish Granola company makes granola that is organic as well as gluten-free, and they make sure to pack it with nuts and seeds to balance out the granola.

Here is the granola in the bowl with the spoon so that you can see the depth more clearly.

Broste Copenhagen Linen Placemats, set of 2 - Total Listed Value $42.00

Last but not least, the breakfast ritual is completed with these simple yet elegant crisp white linen placemats. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little worried about getting these dirty with chunks of food, but they are machine washable, so as long as I don't use them for red wine or dark berries, I should be safe!

Verdict: The items from this month's Norlii box may be the most used out of everything I've received from the subscription. The bowls have such a great depth to them and my roommate and I have been using them to eat so many of our meals. I loved receiving a set of two for everything so that I can enjoy them with a friend, and the granola is just scrumptious! All seven items from the box this month have a total of about $102.00.

Ngl those spoons remind me of plastic spoons you get in to-go meals (the ones that come with a napkin in a thin plastic baggy). I really like the bowls though. This set seems good for someone who lives in a studio since it’s only 2 of each item

Has anyone heard what will be in the May box? I received notification that I will be charged in three days and trying to decide whether to keep the subscription.

I signed up for Norlii specifically for this box and am super impressed with the items and their quality. I also bought extras during their member sale. While it’s disappointing that the items were made in China, I wasn’t surprised by that since comments on some previous box reviews noted items weren’t necessarily made in Scandinavia.

When I received this box, I was so impressed with all of the items that I immediately ordered a duplicate… In my three years of being a subscription box enthusiast, that was a first for me! And the customer service provided was truly first-rate; thank you, Linda!

Also: The napkins from the August Norlii box coordinate quite nicely with the bowls, spoons, and placemats from this box — excellent coordinated curation!

You can get a full set of black silverware very similar style at walmart for a lot cheaper. I have a full set.

I’d use the placements as wash clothes or to dry off with after a bath/shower.

This looks really nice, but still kind of pricey for what you get. If they’d skipped the placemats and did a set of 4 bowls and 4 spoons instead, I probably would have ordered 2 of these boxes…

I completely agree. Two is kind of chintzy for a box of this caliber.

This is by far my favorite Norlii box to date! I enjoyed the granola so much, I had to have more. I have a shipment of 8 canisters enroute with one designated for our dear neighbor who is a “foodie”.
The bowls, spoons and linen placemats are in my future chest and these items will not meet my swap list LOL 😁🥰

The MSAEXTRA code is not working on their site. Is there another code to use to get the 2 extra place mats vs. saving 20 %?

Linda Hasselbalch

The code is working now. Sorry for the inconvenience. I am very happy you want to try Norlii out.
All the best
Linda, Norlii

Thank you, Linda, for your quick help yesterday, and shipping my box today. Looking forward to receiving it! All the best to you, too! HB

Jennie

I never received my box 🙁

@marne – just FYI – the value summary is incorrect in $$ and I think you mean napkins not placemats.

I agree – that’s their most useful box ever! And it’s definitely what I would want to get as a subscriber. Though personally I would have preferred just a set of 4 bowls and 4 spoons, ditching the other stuff. Or, maybe just add back the granola. Half the box value is in the napkins! Personally, I don’t personally feel that I need a $21 white linen napkin at breakfast… but then again I’m definitely more utilitarian than luxe.

Oops. Just saw those are placemats not napkins. Sorry!

I love the spoons. Thank you for the review!

This box always looks so classy and put together, but the price (especially + shipping, yikes) is way to rich for my blood especially for the small number of items you get.

For $75 I would want at least a set of four bowls and spoons, or else full service for two, not just a bowl, spoon, and placemat.

Looking at past reviews too, it always feels like they send partial sets or only one item type and not its logical partners.

Is mismatched chic a part of this aesthetic? It’s cute for sure but if I’m going for mismatched I’ll hit up TJ Maxx and thrift stores before hitting up a $75 sub box

Yay! It’s still available to order. The placemats have one of my initials, so I am finally going to bite–IF the bowls and spoons are dishwasher-safe.

In your great review, you stated that you don’t have a dishwasher, but are the dishes and spoons dishwasher-safe?

The bowls are dishwasher safe, after doing a little investigating. Looking forward to the April Box.

I adore reading these reviews Marne. It makes me happy to know that this box exists and you get to enjoy the products.
I found it a bit strange that the bowls were made in China, although they do look quite pretty.

jenny

i agree with you – the bowls look very pretty, but it is disheartening to see the “made in china” sticker on a box with a higher price point, whose items are advertised as scandinavian. i realize that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re made there, but i wish they were.

I feel the same way. I naturally assumed these were made there and not in China. I had no problem with the higher price point as I thought these were handcrafted. And quality pieces. But as they’re mass produced in China it takes away that feeling that you’re buying something unique. It’s just another dish now to me, one that I can get anywhere.
