Birchbox 'Woman-Founded. Volume 2' Curated Box #2 Review - March 2020

This month's Birchbox came with a single info card that lists the products on the front, with a Birchbox Tip listed on the back.

tarte Rainforest of the Sea 4-in-1 Setting Mist, 0.24 oz. - Estimated Value $2.40 (Buy a full-size 2.5 oz. for $25.00)

I'm a fan of tarte so it's nice to see a setting spray of theirs that I haven't used. Not only does it set, but it will also prime my face and provide a hydrating mist any time of day to refresh my makeup. The pump on this one isn't great so it doesn't produce as fine a mist as I'd like but it gets the job done. It smells really nice too, like citrusy fruit!

Benefit POREfessional Hydrate Primer, 0.10 oz. - Estimated Value $5.20 (Buy a mini 0.25 oz. for $13.00)

This primer has a really nice powdery soft finish to it that preps my face for makeup. The cream itself has a slight nude tint to it but doesn't really show up once rubbed onto my skin. It creates a lovely matte surface and smells light and subtly floral. I normally don't have visible pores but this should also help those who do.

BeautyCounter 2 Plumping Facial Oil - Buy a full-size 0.67 oz. for $69.00

This small blue glass bottle holds a lovely smelling facial oil that immediately brings a glow to my skin. It's quite lightweight and doesn't feel as greasy as other oils. Once it seeps into my skin, it looks more full and more hydrated than before. Just a drop or two will be enough so even this little bottle will last some time. This sample was unmarked so I wasn't able to calculate a value for it, sadly.

Wander Beauty Double Date Lip & Cheek Tint in Rendezvous, 1.05 g - Estimated Value $11.00 (Buy a full-size 2.10 g for $22.00)

I love cream blush. It is my THING. As I've said many times before, I find it hard to find a dual product like this that works well on both the cheeks and the lips. In my experience, it's usually just good for one or the other. This one is similar in that I like it as a cheek tint but it feels a little too cakey for the lip. As a cheek tint, it's highly pigmented so only the smallest amount is needed for the apples of my cheeks. It has a nice mauve shade to it that really brings a youthful look to my face.

Rosie by Rosie Jane Perfume - Buy a full-size 50 mL for $65.00

I actually received a full-size rollerball bottle of this in another box recently so I know that I already love it. It's such a soft fragrance that marries equal parts musk and rose for what I think is a really lovely perfume. I couldn't calculate a value on this since the bottle isn't marked, but I'll be keeping this in my travel bag.

Arrow Radiant Skin Moisturizer, 0.34 oz. - Estimated Value $4.80 (Buy a full-size 1.7 oz. for $24.00)

This moisturizer is from Birchbox's own brand, Arrow. I really like the way this smells but as soon as I squeezed it out of the tube, I saw that it has quite a sparkly sheen to it which I cannot personally get down with. Although it does make skin look more luminous, I prefer either a matte or dewy look as opposed to shimmer. For those who like a little sparkle, this has hyaluronic acid and aloe in it which are both great for soothing and collagen production.

Verdict: This women-founded Birchbox has a lot of great brands and I was happy to try all the products that were new to me. I like the perfume, setting spray, the primer, cheek tint, and facial oil. The arrow shimmer moisturizer is the only thing that really didn't suit my preferences. Although I wasn't able to calculate values for two of the items, this box is worth at least $23.40 without them which doesn't seem to bad for $15 box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? If you subscribe to Birchbox now, be sure to check the image on the sign-up page. I didn’t get any sparkle effect from my Arrow moisturizer.

Beautycounter is an MLM. Disappointed in Birchbox for carrying their products, & definitely not down with Birchbox celebrating them as a “woman founded” brand. Birchbox purports a philosophy of discovery & introducing people to new brands they love — Birchbox should be protecting women from predatory MLM brands, not celebrating them.

I had no idea! I agree completely. I was looking for answers about Birchbox and saw your post first. Even after years I am still confused by them. I’ll keep searching, lol.

Oh no, I didn’t realize that. Thanks for bringing this up, Marion!

I came here to say the same, I’m always disappointed to see a beauty box lend legitimacy to an MLM. It seems so contradictory to add to woman owned when they prey on women.

This is the box I got and I absolutely love the Wander cheek + lip duo!

Hi, I was searching for answers about Birchbox and started on MSA. Posters here are pretty knowledgeable about the boxes they have had. I should pay more attention! I have not received points for a long time, maybe three years. Don’t you get them for buying the box? Sorry, for stupid questions. Aprils box was okay except for the WANDER Nude Illusions. I received GOLDEN RICH and my profile says Fair. Even tan this wouldn’t work. I couldn’t reach them to find out what to do when I saw the “points” at zero. I found the site takes up a lot of time but says very little. After ten minutes, I was 😤. Sorry for the rant, I don’t blame anyone for not answering😉

So happy I cancelled. I got sick of the box options being sold out and having to settle for points. Spent ’em this month and cancelled.

I’m an Ace, and I cancelled a couple months ago. Birchbox was my first sub. The value and joy of this one has really left for me. I don’t miss it.
