Allure Beauty Box April 2020 Review

A handy booklet has all the product info inside.

Thrive Causemetics Lip Liner in 'Kackie', 0.012 oz – Full Size! Retail Value $20.00

FYI: Subscribers will receive either this shade or one called 'Valisia'.

This is almost too brown for me, but it actually has enough pink to be pretty when used as a lipstick, especially topped off with a rosy gloss. It is also the perfect brown shade for a darker lined '90s look when combined with a nude gloss. This stuff has really great staying power and applied so smoothly.

Buttery smooth!

Eva NYC Man Magic 10-in-1 Primer, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.00 (Buy a full-size 6 fl oz version for $11.99)

The scent of this brand's formulas takes be back to college in a really good way! I was obsessed with Eva NYC back then, and I still have mad love for this label. This spray is really great for those of us who like a little bit of a messier look, but still don't want to be frizzy. I like to apply to damp but towel-dried hair and finger comb it through. When my hair dried it looks much healthier and my flyaways are less wild. My natural wave is also enhanced by this spray, and I like to even spritz it on dry hair if the day is especially humid.

Lue by Jean Seo Balance Hydrating and Calming Serum, 1 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $15.00

So, I didn't love this product, but that is likely because I just need more moisture from a serum than this delivered. It has a super short ingredient list and no scent to speak of, and the texture feels a little slimy at first, then fantastic as it absorbs. My skin just seemed to feel exactly the same after it was fully absorbed and I like to notice some sort of difference when I use a product. I did see inside the info booklet that the editor mentioned she loved it for her oily skin, so maybe this just isn't for me!

AKAR Skin Balance Toner, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $22.92 (Buy a full-size 2.4 fl oz for $55.00 )

Give me a sample of an expensive toner and I get SO excited. Add in some sort of fermentation concentrate inside? I am over the moon. A blend of neroli, rose, willow bark, radish root ferment, and saffron, this stuff smells herbal and earthy. Normally I like to mist toners onto my face to use just what I need, but for this, I put a few drops in my hands then pat my face between cleansing and moisturizing. How does something so thin and liquidy make my face feel immediately softer?

Primera Alpine Berry Water Cream, 5 ml - Estimated Value $4.00 (Buy a full-size 50 ml for $40.00)

FYI: Subscribers will this item OR a Purlisse Matcha Green Tear OR Watermelon Sheet Mask.

I have sampled this cream before and I love it! It smells like chamomile tea and is so soft and rich on my skin. It is one of those medium weights that I could use in the daytime or right before bed, making it very versatile if you prefer a more minimal routine. While this is a godsend for dry skin, I can only imagine anyone would love it because it just absorbs so well!

Ciaté London Dewy Stix, 0.17 oz. - Full size! Retail Value $26.00

Subscribers will either receive this item OR a mini coffret of Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Perfume OR a Natasha Denona Mono Eye Shadow.

This is not a product I personally love, but it is one that I have gotten like 3-4 of in the last few months. I get the draw of this product: a dewy look without shimmer. I think my skin is just too textured and it makes me look a little shinier than dewy. It does look a lot nicer highlighting my collarbone though, I will say!

This is a harder product to photograph, but I wanted to try and show you the sheen.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $95.12 which is pretty awesome for a $15 box. This was a really well-rounded box, IMO! There was skincare, makeup, and hair goodies. If I had to pick a favorite, it would by far be that AKAR toner. SWOON! I also loved the lip pencil, water cream, and hair primer so much. Everything in here will either get used or gifted, so I am pretty happy!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! Scroll down this page to see what items you will get when you first sign up.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I just had to review my box. I subscribed near the end of April and got the April box as my first box (I’ve subscribed to Allure in the past). I guess I was lucky my Lue serum wasn’t open – by the way, many of your are saying it’s just water, but it’s not, it’s a hyaluronic acid serum. I’m very happy with everything in the box, including the dewy stick. The stick has a very faint shimmer, but on the cheek bones, it brightens your entire look. Before you cast this one aside, try it. I wear in almost every day with and without foundation. I already had one of these, so I was really happy to get a backup.

I really like using it on my brow bone and/or lids in lieu of eyeshadow. Glad I resubbed for this, but especially looking forward to may and July!

Just wanted to let people know….the ciate London “dewy stick” you might not like as a highlighter, but it’s got good stuff in there you can also use on your lips to keep them hydrated and feeling nice too.

I got the pink lipliner and I loooooove it. The color is gorgeous on me and I really like the lipliner/lipstick in one design. I find it hard to properly shape my lips using lipsticks and regular lipliner and thick lipstick pencils don’t really help. I’m totally going to buy a few of them.
I got the Flower Bomb and am going to give it to someone. I don’t wear perfume often and was randomly given a truly massive bottle of it by a coworker who was given a huge bag of perfume by her ex-boyfriend’s aunt who managed a Saks perfume department. I still have most of it.

Anybody else with the serum leaked everywhere (my bottle had maybe 10 to 15% left) that actually got a replacement box, and subscribes through Amazon? I contacted them on 4/18 they said they’ll be sending a replacement on 4/19. It’s evening of 4/28 and I don’t even have a tracking number for the replacement shipment.

Reply ButtonReply

Pooja

I am in the same boat, I subscribe through amazon. I was told on 4/11 that I would get a replacement, later they said it will arrive between 4/24 – 5/1 but still I have not got any tracking information.

Mandi

They sent me a replacement box since my serum spilled over everything. I was excited to try it too, but it was completely empty, I saw the leak through the box before I even opened it. I was surprised to get the 2nd box with an eyeshadow and less products, but I’m happy.

My replacement box was completely the same products & guess what… damaged again! Should I even bother trying for another one???

Reply ButtonReply

Pooja

Good to know you got your replacement. They said they will send me replacement on april 11th but there is no tracking information yet.

kimhuston44

My LUE BY JEAN SEO came empty. Spilled all over the box. I want a replacement. Anyone know how t obtain one, please let me know.

Reply ButtonReply

KB

Wow Allison that wasn’t very nice

Reply ButtonReply

Carol N

Kim. I would email Allure. I am sure they will replace it for you. Good luck!

Reply ButtonReply

Carol N

I did not get my April box. Anyone else? it running late? I usually get it on the 15th of the month. Thans

Reply ButtonReply

Carol N

It was late but got here! Love it, I got the Flowerbomb perfume and everything else I wanted, It is an awesome box.

Desertcapes

I’m Really confused by these Lue products they keep sending. Last month it was powdered rolled oats in a bottle and this month it’s water and sodium benzoate. Umm what?
This is supposed to be a luxury brand from Beverly Hills.
Eww. I threw them both in the trash.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Most skin care products are based in water.

As for sodium benzoate, it’s in there as a preservative. It’s not like it’s going to turn to pure benzene and give you skin cancer.

Get real.

Victoria

Donating unwanted products to your local woman’s shelter or even just leaving them in a public place with a note that says free is a great way to keep things out of a landfill.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Great idea Victoria! Ignore all these negative comments it’s the same people being consistently rude😉

Sandy

Maybe you would be fine taking free beauty products left in a public place but most people definitely would not.

Shannon

Great idea, Victoria 🙂

Sandy

I agree. Sorry but if it’s not good enough for me I’m not giving it to a homeless or battered woman either.

Desertcapes

What are you talking about. ALL these products end up on landfill when they are used. Plastic doesn’t just disappear because the contents is empty.
And no, I’m not going to give some Poor homeless woman products consisting solely of water and sodium benzoate. They already have enough problems in life

Toni Marie

I’m so excited that I received the flower bomb in my box because I had ran out of my last bottle. I cant wait until the May box because Allure has been getting better lately.

Alaska Ice Princess

I am meh on this box. I live in Alaska so I never get perfume or nail polish in my boxes. I opened the dew stick and the product fell out. The lip liner is ugly on me. Those are already in my ongoing regifting pile.

I will try the serum and the rest of the stuff.

Since I subscribe to Ipsy twice and Allure, I figure that I am not out very much when I pass on what I can’t won’t use to someone else.

DawnS

Box twins! Donated the brown lip liner as waaaaay not a good look for me. And the Ciate never dries down just left me feeling oily to the max! Loved everything else. Still one of my favorite boxes!

Reply ButtonReply

Oz

Make that box triplets! I wish I had gotten the perfume, but I am looking forward to using the serum and toner. Overall, this month was kinda a miss for me. Next month looks amazing.

Reply ButtonReply

Pooja

This was my first allure box and I am excited. I got purlisse mask instead of water cream and flowerbomb instead of dewy stick.

Reply ButtonReply

Denise

Thank you so much for mentioning the use of the dewy stick to highlight the collarbone. It’s not my favorite on my face and now I can actually use it!

Reply ButtonReply

Shannon

I also saw someone on another thread said they use the dewy stick for lip balm/gloss.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Sure thing Denise! It is also kind of pretty on a bare lid for that sort of shiny lid trend that is happening right now too!

Reply ButtonReply

Crystal

Can’t wait to get my box. I sub to several & Allure is almost always my fave. Hoping I don’t get the liner in kackie though.

Reply ButtonReply

Kat

The same thing happened with my Lue! After reading Megan’s review, I no longer have FOMO about it, but it was definitely a mess to deal with the box.

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

So glad I didn’t get this one…will probably sign up for May, though.

Reply ButtonReply

Prettypony

I was very happy and confused that I got a Natasha Denona eyeshadow in mine. In place of the perfume and glow stick. I was not expecting this to be in there, and was very very happy!

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

They showed this option on their Insta stories a couple weeks ago. I would love that eyeshadow too, it’s the burnt orange/rust color, right? I haven’t received my box yet but praying I get the brown lipliner….fingers crossed.

Reply ButtonReply

Leash

Thank you for this review. Once swaps are back I’d love to swap for kackie. I received Valisia, but I don’t wear reds. I can’t wait to try the tiger grass!

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

If you wanna swap, I got kackie and would love to try the other one. Feel free to email me ascullion666 and I use Gmail

Reply ButtonReply

HattiJ

I was really excited about this box, but the Lue serum came open during shipping and spilled out all over everything. I’m hoping to get it replaced…

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

Mine did, too. I subscribe on Amazon and they refunded me.

Reply ButtonReply

Pooja

Ohh.. I am subscribed through Amazon too. When I contacted them they raised a ticket to allure on my behalf.

Cynthia

So did mine. I sent photos and a request for replacement as everything is sticky and unusable.

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

Same happened to me. I didn’t bother to report it.

Pooja

My serum was open too, allure said they will replace it. It seems that happened with many folks, I read about it from comments in from many people on fb.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

Weird my top is taped/sealed, was yours?

Megan K.

Oh no! Fingers crossed the Allure folks can get that sorted out for you.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

The Eva NYC Hair Primer did wonders controlling frizz on this curly girls head!

Reply ButtonReply

Shay

Did anyone else think that the Akar toner smelled like Campbell’s tomato soup?

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

It reminds me of baby food

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Initially it didn’t seem to, but when I started using it last night it really did! I was trying not to laugh out loud, because my husband would not have understood why it was funny.
I forgot to shake it first, that might be the difference. We’ll find out.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

HA! I had to go re-sniff mine. I don’t get a soup vibe, but it is def herbal and possibly veggie?

Reply ButtonReply

Shay

I just can’t get past it. The smell even has that metallic edge to it. I like the way it feels on my skin, though! 🙂

Dea

It smelled to me like artichokes! I like rose-scented skincare, normally, but this is artichokes to me. Hard to get over it.

Side note to Thrive Causemetics: Just because you got the name of a shade to indicate the shade correctly, doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea. “Kackie” is Hebrew for “poop”.

Reply ButtonReply

Shay

Hah! That’s hilarious. I had observed that it was close to “caca” (both the word and the color) but didn’t know there was a direct translation. Unfortunate choice. And unfortunately for myself, I got this shade.

Pink5

I got the brown liner as well. Not a good look on me.

I got the perfume instead of the highlighter, which is great as I love Flowerbomb.

I would have preferred the Alpineberry to the green tea mask, but oh well.

All in all, a decent box.

Reply ButtonReply

Jody

Excited now that I see your review. I ordered the box yesterday because I am still looking for the best lip liner so my shades don’t bleed out. The toner sounds fab. too. I can’t wait!!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hope you love it Jody! <3
