VetPet Box (Multi-Cat Version) March 2020 Review

Every month, VetPet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items:

You always get a pamphlet with information on a health topic. This month's topic was weight loss/healthy weight, so we also received a weight assessment:

On to the items:

CatIt Senses Treat Maze - Retail Value $12.97

You can see pictures of this out of the box below, in action. You can put a few treats in here and your cat has to work to get them out. As usual, Madison is my only cat who understands this toy but Sneaky figured out pretty quickly that she could watch Madison and steal treats from him.

Go Cat Da Fur Thing - Retail Value $4.99

This is part rabbit fur and part feather and different cats like different parts of it. Madison, for example, is a fan of the feathers. This is a good size for wrestling or rolling around with. My cats usually like toys from this brand pretty well and this was no exception.

Royal Canin Food Measuring Cup

These don't appear to be for sale online but it is a good item for inclusion in a healthy weight-themed box. Consistent feeding can be important for weight maintenance and part of that is knowing how much food you gave in the first place. This can help you with that aspect.

Furry Frolics (3 count assorted) - Buy 72 for $23.40

There were two sparkle puffs here and one rattle ball. Sparkle puffs always make me think of Mr. Kitty because these used to be his favorite kind of toys. The rattle ball is more of a Monkey thing. He really likes it if I put a bunch of them in the bathtub, and he bats them around there. It makes quite a racket, though.

Henry Schein Nutrisentials Lean Treats (3.5 oz) - Retail Value $3.35

I am familiar with this brand because it makes some health products, but these treats are new to me. Sneaky thought they were amazing and she kept trying to steal them from the other cats. They also worked pretty well in the treat maze, despite being semi-moist.

Yeowww! Lemon - Retail Value $9.11

Yeowww! toys are always hits at my house, especially with Monkey (but I've caught Sneaky and Madison playing with them, too). They have a canvas-style outer texture (it's tough and durable) and Monkey likes to lick them. They must have some really good catnip because I catch my cats playing with these toys months after I receive them.

Yeowww! Apple - Retail Value $7.47

I always think this is a tomato rather than an apple but I guess it doesn't matter. Like the lemon, this one was well-liked by several cats. I have an older one that I have found with holes in it, I guess the cats can be pretty violent with these if they have a mind to.

Sassycat Freeze Dried Duck with Oranges (1.5 oz) - Retail Value $5.49

These are made and sourced in the USA. They have a pretty good texture for freeze-dried treats (not too dense or hard for the cats to eat). Sneaky and Madison both liked these pretty well. As freeze-dried treats, too, they are low in calories.

From the Field Shelby the Long-Tailed Refillable Hemp Mouse - Retail Value $13.64

Now this is a Madison special. He loves everything by From the Field and he really, really likes the tails on these long-tailed ones. (I didn't get any great pictures, unfortunately.) One thing that's great about VetPet Box is that the toys seem chosen for cat enjoyment instead of just to fit a theme.

From the Field Ultimate Blend Sample - Buy 0.5 oz for $9.85

This is catnip as well as silvervine. Some cats tend to respond to silvervine more than catnip (or at least as well as). Madison is one of them. And this is a good size to refresh a scratch pad or two. (I already know the cats like this product because I've received it in other cat subscription boxes, so I'm keeping it sealed until I need it.)

Petsport Laser Chase II - Retail Value $4.99 (found here for $2.89)

Laser pointers are great for getting cats to exercise. Even my senior crew gets into them still (Madison is going to be 13 this year, Monkey is probably about 14, and Sneaky is probably about 12). They don't make for great kitty photos but I like to keep laser pointers in a couple of different rooms of the house so it's nice to have an extra. I've received this same brand before and they work pretty well (the red dot is easy to see, anyway).

All for Paws Green Rush Peas in Pods (2 pack) - Retail Value $4.12

Here is a smaller toy for cats who prefer such things. These are catnip plushes and they have a fuzzy texture. I do appreciate the different toy textures as this is something my cats are really interested in. If you have a cat who likes tossing toys around, these are good for that, or even for wrestling if you have a small cat or a kitten.

Here are some kitty pictures for you:

Finally, I have some sad news.

Angus: April 2016 - March 6, 2020

Angus passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. It appears to have been a heart attack or blood clot as he had been fine the night before. I am still kind of in shock, to be honest. I keep expecting to see him waiting for breakfast outside the bedroom door and I don't and I'm so sad. I have never lost a cat this young before. He was my buddy and fell asleep in my lap every night on his special blanket and I miss him so much. I like to think he is hanging out with Mr. Kitty somewhere, swatting bubbles and sleeping in the sun and completely free of IBD.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of about $66.15 for the March VetPet Box for cats for the things that were available for retail and/or individual sale, although some of them were not available, so the value is probably a little higher. This is more than $20 over the month-to-month cost of the box, which is great. The treats were well-liked and the toys were all popular as well as being useful for weight maintenance either through activity or just slowing down eating treats (as with the maze). This was a good month for us.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? New subscribers usually get an introductory box. However, if you contact VetPet Box, you can get a past month’s box (like say you really want to get the dental one more than once, because your cat has bad teeth).

ACTIVE DEAL: Save $15 off your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $45 for the multi-cat box, you are paying approximately $3.75 per item (counting the sparkle balls and rattle ball together).

My sincerest condolences for the loss of Angus. It is especially hard when they are young. He was well loved by you and I enjoyed his antics in these reviews. I am sorry to hear this and I’m sorry o have been slow to respond. My husband is sick with cancer and a stroke at I dont keep up with everthing as much as I used to.

Dear Ragan, I’m so sorry to hear about Angus. Here I am, tearing up again over your sad news. When I read your reviews of kitty boxes, it always comes through how well-loved they are. Please accept my condolences. Your family has had a rough trot in this last year and I hope you are holding up ok.

Thank you for the gorgeous pics of Madison, Sneaky and Monkey. I love the mental image of Monkey turning the bathtub into a downball court.

Ragan, I’m so sorry to hear about Angus! I hope you’re comforted by the knowledge that he led a happy life with you and knew how much you loved him. It’s really unfair to lose pets so young, and especially so close to Mr. Kitty and Nyx, but I know they are together having a grand old time.

I always love your reviews! My best to you and the other kitties. <3

I’m so sorry, Ragan. You and your husband have had it rough, this last year. Losing 3 furbabies, is incredibly difficult. (losing one is hard enough)
NYX and Mr Kitty were at the rainbow bridge to greet Angus.

I’ve been reading all your reviews for the past few years. I was so sad when Mr. Kitty passed away. Now I’m sad with you because of Angus. You have my deepest sympathy. As another reader said, he and Mr. Kitty are playing happy together looking over you.

I am so sorry about Angus. During his life he brought a lot of people like me a moment of enjoyment, seeing pictures of him playing with all his toys. Thank you for sharing your pets with us, I know that you have been going through very hard times the past year with them.

Angus is most definitely spending his days now with Mr. Kitty!
