KitNipBox March 2020 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, there are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a slumber party theme:

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.

Catch Some Zs Wand - Listed Value $7

There's usually a wand toy in this box and this month was no exception. This has three felt Zs and a mouse toy at the end. It also has no plastic, which is kind of nice (the wand is a sturdy wood and the string is sort of elastic). The bits on the wand are good for hooking a claw into, and Angus was especially enthusiastic about this.

Playful Pet Crinkle Ice Cream Sandwich - Listed Value $6

This is the big toy for the month. The cookie part of the sandwich is fuzzy and the ice cream part is a different sort of fuzzy, which makes this one interesting especially for the face rubbers in my group (Monkey and, increasingly, Angus). This one would also be good for wrestling.

Safemade All Nip Sleeping Bag - Listed Value $5

This has all catnip instead of any stuffing material. My cats found it more interesting if I kind of crushed and twisted it together before giving it to them, I don't know if they just got tired of watching me or if that helped release any catnip scent? Anyway, this one seems well made and is a good size for kicking around (or perhaps wrestling if you have a smaller cat).

Max Slumber Party Jingling Slipper - Listed Value $5

I could not get this on a cat's foot (!) but Sneaky was super interested when I put a few treats down inside this toy and she rolled all over the place trying to get the treats out again. (She only succeeded in pushing them down further inside so I had to help her out.)

Leap Catnip 'n Snacks Crinkle Kicker - Listed Value $5

This has more of a canvas-like texture, which is something Monkey is very interested in. He licked this a lot. It is also a good size for wrestling although it has a different size and weight distribution than some of the other kicker-style toys.

AFP Cuddle Up Teddy Bear - Listed Value $5

And here is a cute teddy bear. This has a texture somewhat similar to the top and bottom of the ice cream sandwich and is really the only toy this month with floppy arms and legs. I doubt the cats care very much about toy shapes and appearances (mine seem more drawn to particular textures) but this was a good cuddly toy for cats who are so inclined.

Wellness Kittles Gran-Free Chicken and Cranberries Treats - Retail Value $2.37

This brand of treats pops up fairly often in this box but that is OK because they seem to be good quality and also the cats like them -- even Monkey ate a few. These are pretty small so you don't have to worry about your cat gaining weight from eating them (a concern at my house as my cats are older and not particularly active), and they come in a resealable package for freshness.

Vitakraft Purrsticks Sample Pack (Bonus) - Buy 10 for $2.99

This was listed as a bonus item. It is a semi-moist treat in stick form. I intended to take a picture of Sneaky biting it but instead she took half the stick at once and ran off with it. Then she stole the bits I gave to Madison and Monkey.

Gratuitous kitty photos:

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $35.37 for the March KitNipBox. That's reasonable for a cat subscription box, and even better if you use a coupon or sign up for a multi-month subscription. I would say this is a pretty representative month, with lots of items that manage to stay related to a theme while also offering a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures, which is something my cats find interesting. The treats were also a hit.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first KitNipBox will ship right after your payment processes, so you should still be able to get March's box if you sign up now.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $29.99 including free shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $4.28.
