GlobeIn February 2020 "Bud" Box Review

Each box from GlobeIn contains a booklet that talks more about the theme for the box and the items inside. This little booklet is almost as valuable to me as the items inside the box, because it gives background on each piece and often includes names and photos of the artisans behind them. I absolutely love knowing more about the products and the hands that crafted each item.

Time to check out our handmade goodies. Just a heads up, since there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items, I'm going off the prices given in this GlobeIn spoilers post for items I couldn't find online.

Whitewashed Terracotta Llama Planter, Bangladesh - Listed Value $42.00

Measurements: 9" x 6" x 11"

Materials: Whitewashed terracotta

Ok, this little llama is beyond cute. Like... really cute! And totally well made. He is beautifully finished in a chalky whitewashed look which gives him even more character. I do wish there was a drainage hole here (especially for succulents which won't tolerate stagnant water) but I am just going to layer in some charcoal and rocks to simulate drainage when I plant something inside.

Blue Pottery Herb Marker, India - Listed Value $8.00

Measurements: 5.5 inches long

Materials: Indian blue pottery.

I love white and blue ceramics and this name marker is very charming! You can use a marker and write down the variety of seed or herb you are sprouting to keep track of what is going on in your garden. I generally can recognize mine by sight at this point, so instead, I plan on jotting down fertilization dates for my extra needly plants who want extra nutrition, but not too frequently. Using a dry erase marker will let me change this as often as needed.

Ceramic Pocket Wall Planter, Morocco - Listed Value $22.00

Measurements: 5.5" x 4"

Materials: Stoneware ceramic

This midnight teal pocket planter is perfect for the larger air plant I have hanging out in my office. I think it will look really cute peeking out and I love the idea of it hanging from the wall rather than just sitting on my coffee table.

Indoor/Outdoor Tealight Lantern,  India - Listed Value - $26.00

Measurements: 5" D x 5.75" T, with 4" handle.

Materials: Enamel-painted stainless steel.

Finally, our last item is a beautifully enameled metal lantern. You can use a tea light or LED votive inside and the golden painted interior just glows! I like that there is a little removable "trap door" on the bottom so if you do choose to go with a real candle, getting it in and out is easy and safer than reaching down inside.

The Verdict: GlobeIn somehow knew I was a plant person this month. I can easily use every single item that arrived this month and I think each was really beautifully designed.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. You need to choose your theme by the 10th of each month or they will select one for you. From GlobeIn:

We'll always try our best to send you the new theme, but it's not a guarantee. To ensure that you know what you will receive, you can choose your own theme from the 1st-10th of the month.

To be eligible for the current month's shipment, please subscribe by the 15th of the month. Premium Boxes typically start shipping around the 18th-21st of every month (the exact day boxes go out varies since our boxes are shipped in batches).

  • Example: If you subscribe on November 14th, your first box will be the November Premium Box. Please note that if you subscribe from the 11th-15th, you will automatically receive a Surprise Theme for that month's Premium Box. Add-ons are not available during this time, but you'll be able to choose add-ons from the 1st-10th for your next box.

  • Example: If you subscribe on November 16th, your first box will be the December Premium Box. Please note that you can choose your theme and add-ons between 1st-10th of the upcoming month.

Value Breakdown: At $50.00 for this box ($40.00 + $10.00 shipping), each of the 4 items has an average cost of $12.50.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I love the concept, love the items though I question if some of the items are “irregulars”. I don’t mind spending more for fair trade products but it seems they are getting sloppy and relying on too many excuses for lateness. Shouldn’t sell things is you don’t have the inventory. My biggest issue is no updates, especially after the orders are very late. Inconsistent tracking documentation,. Leaves the customer in the dark. Maybe they are growing too fast and haven’t caught up with demand. I will not be renewing my subscription.

This was my first globe in box and I got so many “free” extras for upgrading my sub. The box was so huge I could barely get in through the door and they gave me extra goodies. I seriously got 100s of dollars worth of value with the bath box and bud box. The llama planter is the star of it all. Going to plant today!

Finally received my box and one of the llama ears got broken and someone somewhere decided to glued it back in and send it away.
You can clearly see it, glue residue and all, I contacted GlobeIn, let’s see how that goes.

Update:

GlobeIn reached out pretty fast and I was giving credit since no more llamas. My glued-ear llama and I just gotta work together and make some plants happy 🙂

FYI, You can follow Globein on Instagram in order to get all the box spoilers. They had a video a few days before the choice opened up.

This is my first Globein box, and I’m so in love with my llama. I think the whole box has a ton of value. I’m not in love with the options for next month so I’m still deciding whether to skip or get a previous box.

I do think the fair-trade, artisanal nature of the box doesn’t allow for massive amounts of any given product which is why they offer so many varieties, and I’m fine with that. I agree with the comments about the inconsistent value of this sub, but they do make it very easy to skip a month.

(I’ll allow myself the opportunity to change my opinion based on next month’s boxes)

Normally I’m not crazy about this box and just like to read the reviews, but that llama planter!!!! I’m in love with it!!

Whoops that wasn’t supposed to be a reply. Sorry!

Wow, my February box hasn’t even shipped. The Maven’s Facebook page has multiple posts that people who had ordered the Bud Box were all still waiting. I assumed that they would all ship at the same time, yet GlobeIn made sure that influencers who get free boxes actually received their boxes first.

Like several others mentioned, I wanted February’s sub because of the Bud Box and the cute llama and was shocked to see that it wasn’t available as a theme selection when I went to customize my selection.

Luckily, I scrolled down immediately to check add ons and it was still available there, so I added the Bud Box as an added on selection and then scrolled back up to select REDEEM as my monthly theme. When choosing REDEEM for the month, you are given a credit for the cost of a monthly theme box, which can be applied to your add-on on purchases. Thus, I essentially WAS able to get the Bud Box for February (assuming they eventually ship it to me…I am alarmed that people have posted about getting refund emails). I am frustrated with GlobeIn right now. I have spent A LOT of money on my add on and VIP purchases over the past year (well over a thousand, maybe over two), and I certainly don’t feel like a valued customer by being placed so low priority in shipping my purchases.

I’ve been a subscriber for almost 4 years now. Have been a loyal member and purchaser and defended them often. My account has had various issues since December that prevents me from being able to successfully place add on (or VIP) orders and I cannot even choose my theme. It keeps reverting back to “Surprise.” I lost out on my choice for January and this month since what I had originally selected was sold out by the time I could get CS to help (I lucked out for February apparently and was able to have them update it). And all of my purchases have been refunded. I’m still struggling to get them to resolve my theme selection issue for this month and I have 4 more months in my prepaid sub that I assume are going to be a struggle too. I’m not exactly sure what is going on but it seems like they have had more inventory management, warehousing and IT issues than usual lately. I’m not sure if they outgrew their old system but I NEVER had a major problem until recently…and now I can’t seem to get them resolved. Unfortunately it’s making me think I’m not going to renew and say goodbye after 4 years…and I never thought I’d say that.

I would hab6been and new subscriber. I really wanted the llama. My family used to raise and show them. After hearing these experiences with this company, I’m glad I didn’t sub.

Ashley

This box has been hit or miss as in reviews on MSA for the last few months (reviews monthly haven’t been consistent). It kind of puts me off that a lot of subscriber’s we’re wanting this box and it was sold out immediately, but MSA obtained one for free to review. To anyone who didn’t get this box with the llama planter, I found a cute one on Target.com for $15. Cute and comparable!

Alice

Thank you for the Target info!

I am sooo excited! My box is supposed to be delivered today. The llama is everything! Since it doesn’t have drainage, I’ll probably put orchids in it. The local grower sells them in clear plastic bases. I can take out the orchidS to water and drain and hide the pot with extra moss. Seriously so cute.

Have your hubby drill holes with a diamond drill bit. You’d have to put something underneath it then…

Why does she need a hubby/man to do it? 😉

Yeah, I was super bummed about how this box rolled out. I received my subscription as a gift, and this was my first month. I wish GlobeIn was more transparent about their spoilers, and that they’d be explicit about how there are more options than the spoiled ones, and that you’re probably not going to get the really nice-looking one they advertise with spoilers – just what’s leftover that no one else wants. I was unaware that there even were different box theme options available until it was too late. I’d assumed I was getting the spoiled box. Why wouldn’t I? Those were the only spoilers I’d seen online.

Reply ButtonReply

Cassie

I will say GlobeIn is actually very transparent that there are themes to choose from each month. It does irk me, however, that they seem to only majorly promote one. I only signed up for the bud box (three months) and would have been upset if I couldn’t get it- I don’t think I saw anywhere about a first come first served. And while maybe that’s supposed to be intuitive, it seems it went awfully fast.

I wish MSA would mention these things. This site makes it seem like there is only one option. Plus it would be super informative to add a note about things selling out. It definitely would have helped me make a more informed decision.

I knew shipping was slow when I signed up. Now on the Facebook page I’m hearing how items very commonly arrive broken. To be honest I’m really feeling like I wasted my money and can’t wait for me three months to be over.

Reply ButtonReply

LB

I will say they have been very helpful if anything arrives broken. Just send a pic and they will replace or refund you at least. In 4 years I’ve only had a couple of things broken. They are typically packaged well.

amber

I suppose it’s harder to know if you received it as a gift, but it was really clear when I went to their site to subscribe that there were different themed boxes, which I didn’t know about until I went to their website. I considered subbing for the planters, but the different options confused me and I just gave up. For boxes like this, MSA usually shows all the options, and I’m surprised they didn’t.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

It was confusing. It wasn’t immediately clear to me where, or how, I would be able to select this particular box when placing an order. I decided to avoid the stress and save my money. The planter wasn’t worth all that mess.

LJ

You do have the option to change what theme you get every month, but the 1st month defaults to “Surprise.” Be sure to check the dates each month – as some themes are popular and sell out – and change it to the theme that suits you going forward.

Reply ButtonReply

Anita

I totally agree with you! I was new to globein and bought a 3 mo sub based on the spoilers and am extremely disappointed. I took a skip credit after finding my options were not so appealing. I can’t wait until my sub ends and is cancelled.

My box finally shipped yesterday and I was refunded $18 for the wall planter, because they are OOS.

That was one of the items I wanted and even got an extra one. I purchased very early and I guess that meant nothing.

Reply ButtonReply

Leslie Prior

Bummed to hear this as my wall planter arrived with a corner chipped off and was hoping it could be replaced. No sign of the chipped piece or would have just glued it back.

Reply ButtonReply

Vianny

Oh man that sucks 🙁 can you paint it maybe? Still reach out, you might get a refund since it arrived damaged.

Pam

Super cute but how could they not add drainage holes, seems useless now. Were there no gardeners at both companies.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy in KC

It’s not useless, and at least it’s terracotta/clay instead of ceramic, which will help plants not get too wet. Megan’s plan to put rocks in the bottom to help with drainage is good.

Reply ButtonReply

Leslie Prior

Yes, rocks in bottom and plant succulents or some other plants that require less water.

MissJ

Yes, please proofread. That’s always been my biggest gripe about this site is there are so many overlooked things in the rush to publish, that’s my assumption, anyways.

This review needs some major editing- title says bonjour box when it’s bud box, info in italics says first box will be nov if you sign up now.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Thanks for the title catch PudgeKat! I made that change. The first box text is a direct quote from the company where November is used as an example month. That text remains the same from month to month! Sorry for the confusion!
