Fit Snack Box is a subscription box containing snacks that each has at least two of the following characteristics: GMO-free, high protein, low sugar, gluten-free, organic, raw, vegan, and/or all-natural. (That is, any given item might be low in sugar and vegan, or organic and gluten-free but not vegan, etc.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Good to Know: This box usually contains some ready-to-eat snacks and sometimes a few pantry items. Fit Snack Box February 2020 Review

One side of the information card typically has a little more information about the snacks in the box and the other side has a workout for you to try.

Sometimes there are also coupons and/or product literature, but not always.

Supernola Signature Spiced Goji (1.5 oz) - Buy 12 for $35.88

This appears to have undergone a slight packaging redesign but I linked to what I think is basically the same item. This is one of two strategies for Paleo "granola" from this month's box. It is the softer of the two, and has a texture almost like a cookie but one that is so soft it falls apart. I don't know that I would pick out goji specifically from the other flavors here, but it is sweet and slightly fruity and overall I am a fan.

Kibo Chickpea Chips Mediterranean Herbs (1 oz) - Buy 12 bags for $19.99

These have appeared in a past Fit Snack Box but that is OK because we were fans. These are made from chickpeas (they do also have some rice flour and soy protein) and the herb flavor is quite strong, so you may want to eat these on their own without a dip -- I can't honestly think of many dips that would be compatible (maybe some very plain hummus, but eating chickpea dip with chickpea chips seems a little strange). Anyway, these are high in protein and fiber and the sodium level is about average or slightly below average for comparable products.

Kay's Protein Cookie Bites, Cinnamon Almond (1.2 oz) - Buy 6 bags for $12.18 (found here for $10.74)

These are high in fiber and protein and relatively low in sugar (they are marketed as "diabetic friendly") as well as being gluten free. I am familiar with this brand as I've definitely had their protein cereal before and maybe something else as well. I like the cereal (I don't eat boxed cereal often) but I am not sure about these. There is not much that says "cookie" about them, they seem like a larger version of the cereal. They really stick in the teeth as well. Perhaps if you are someone who likes to dip your cookies in milk they would work better for you? (The flavor is good, the texture is just kind of dry.)

California Livermore Red Walnuts (2 oz) - Buy 8 oz for $10.99

These have also appeared in a past Fit Snack Box. But RED WALNUTS. They are this color because of the soil they grow in. They actually taste just like regular walnuts. I am going to buy a whole bunch of them one of these days and crush them up and put them on top of a red velvet cake because the color would match perfectly. I seriously love this color (but interesting colors in food have always made me happy, like purple carrots and orange cauliflower).

Moon Cheese Cheddar Believe It (1 oz) - Buy 10 oz for $14.99

This is the third separate brand of dried cheese I have received in a snack subscription box this month (I also received two different ones in Love With Food). I guess these are popular because of the keto diet. (As an aside, I think it is hilarious that my local Publix has this in the refrigerated section.) Anyway, I think this is my favorite of the three types I have received this month. It is maybe slightly less salty? I have trouble eating more than about half a serving of dried cheese, and this one is no exception, because the saltiness just gets to me after awhile. But I split all these snacks with my husband so this was just the right amount.

Bumbleroot Hydration Drink Mix (2 x 0.4 oz) - Buy 10 for $20 (found here for $12)

I have received this in food subscription boxes before. I really don't get the emphasis on hydration these days, most people are not on the verge of dehydration. It is perhaps more a concern in the ill, the elderly, or very young people who might not drink enough liquids, but most adults don't need to worry a whole lot unless you are sweating a lot during workouts or have a job that involves vigorous outdoor activity. (The whole "8 glasses of water a day" thing, while often repeated, is based on a misinterpretation of a paper from a long time ago; sorry about the paywall to get to the article.) Anyway, moving on. The mint in this kind of cuts the tartness of the raspberry and hibiscus, and this has sea salt so it includes iodine, magnesium, manganese, potassium, calcium, and zinc, instead of just sodium and sugar; it also has vitamin C from baobab and it has coconut water in dried form. It is sweetened with stevia and monk fruit and I'm not a big fan of either of those flavors; there is a suggestion on the package to add it to a smoothie and this worked better for me because I couldn't detect the stevia and monk fruit so well.

Caveman Blueberry Almond Granola Bar (1.23 oz) - Buy 12 for $17.99

This is the second Paleo "granola" product this month. It seemed very dry out of the package and I was not prepared to like it but it was actually pretty good. Rather than being hard to eat, it was pleasantly crunchy, even though it did fall apart a bit. This is only vaguely fruity and seems to be largely nuts and seeds, but I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. It did kind of fall apart on me so it may make for messy eating on the go.

Wicked Cutz Original Peppered Beef Stick (1.5 oz) - Buy 12 for $23.88

I had to pass this along to someone else because I am vegetarian and my husband doesn't eat meat sticks. I am kind of over meat sticks in food subscription boxes, honestly. But anyway, this is gluten free and also free of MSG and it also doesn't have nitrates or nitrites. This is made in the US and based on the company website, was developed by a long line of cattle ranchers in Texas.

Mountain Standard Power On Pancake Mix (9 oz) - Retail Value $16

I think this is intended for camping because you just add water and cook and it is sold at stores like REI. It has whole grains as well as quinoa and hemp seeds so nutritionally, it is something I like. The pancakes end up a bit more rustic than the ones we make ourselves (even though we use whole wheat flour). I would suggest using less water than the instructions call for because the batter was a bit runny and we had to cook it longer so they got kind of dark. But overall, this worked out better than most mixes of this nature I've received from food subscriptions lately. FYI this is just the mix, the butter and fresh blueberries and syrup are things we added as extras. This has dairy and egg ingredients.

Verdict: The February Fit Snack Box had 9 items for an average value of $3.21 per item. The pancake mix was full-sized and there were a lot of new items I had never tried before (Moon Cheese brand, protein cookie bites, Caveman bar), plus I have been obsessed with the red walnuts since the last time I received them -- such a pretty color. I would say this was a pretty standard box from Fit Snack Box in terms of what you can expect and overall I was pretty happy with it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Boxes ship out around the 20th of the month so it is too late to get February’s box.

Value Breakdown: At $28.90 for this box, you are paying about $3.21 per item.
