Bombay & Cedar "Daring" Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. The theme this month is "Daring."

Turmeric Essential Oil by Bombay & Cedar, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

Blood Orange Essential Oil Blend by Bombay & Cedar, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

I always get so excited for a fresh batch of essential oils! I use mine in my diffuser daily so I go through bottles quickly. This month's blends were sort of a miss for me though. Both are very bold smells so a few drops go a long way! The blood orange is my favorite of the two, with a rich scent that fills my entire upstairs. Blood orange can be used to clear the lymphatic system, improve immune function, and lift your mood. I am not the biggest citrus lover so this just feels a bit too bold for me. The turmeric is amazing, but it really smells spicy if you use too much! I really want to try this mixed with a lighter oil since this one is so dense and see if I like it better, but I do love the overall scent. Plus, it aids in relieving joint pain and anxiety, promotes hair growth, and can reduce blemishes.

Rosa Damascena Mask by Midflower, set of 2 - Retail Value $30

This mask was unlike any other sheet mask that I have ever tried! It didn't have a serum on it, instead, it felt sort of rubbery and stuck perfectly to my face. It felt wet on application (almost like a gel) and the directions say to leave the mask on for about 60 minutes until the mask is completely hard. This mask is made with 15 ml of Rosa Damascena water to rejuvenate, hydrate, brighten, and minimize pores. I have only used one of these masks from this set of two, but I can safely say that I loved it! I noticed a huge difference in my skin's hydration with a fresh brightness and healthy glow! I can't wait to use the second mask for even better results.

Unplug Aromatherapy Lotion by BRÖÖ, 8.5 oz - Listed Value $9, Retail Value $7

My booklet says the featured lotion would be Reboot, but I received the Unplug Aromatherapy. Did anyone else receive a different scent? I really, really wanted to love this lotion, but I am not loving the smell. It is an odd mixture of floral, citrus, and a slight woody scent. I think the citrus mixed with floral is what throws me off a bit, I also just don't find citrus smells to be relaxing as they are more awakening in my opinion. The moisturizer itself was great though! It left my skin feeling silky smooth that lasted most of the day. You don't need a ton to cover your body and feel the healing powers of the cream and essential oils. I'm going to keep this to use from time to time and hope the smell grows on me, but after a few days of using it I just can't get past the scent, unfortunately.

Lip-spo Gloss by Evio Beauty - Listed Value $11, Retail Value $14

This gloss is extra moisturizing thanks to shea butter as the main ingredient. The gloss isn't sticky and left my lips feeling extra hydrated, which they really need right now! I wish I received one of the lighter shades though so that I could wear it every day. This shade is a tad dark for my everyday look, but I love it for a night out! The gloss was buildable so I was able to get great coverage with little to no streaks, considering it is a gloss. Even though this isn't a color that I will wear every day, I really love it and will keep it stashed in my makeup bag for the perfect occasion.

Detox Bites by SMPL, 1.83 oz - Listed Value $6 (Buy a case of 8 bags for $48)

These little bites are meant to help with your gut health and let your body remove toxins. Each bite is made with almond flour, coconut, cashews, dates, coconut nectar, a proprietary detox blend (activated coconut charcoal, pine pollen, chaga), coconut oil, and Himalayan pink sea salt. If you have been reading my reviews you will know that I do not like coconut at all so I just could not get past the strong coconut smell and all of the coconut flakes. That being said, I made my husband try these for me! They have a very strong coconut flavor, but they also taste somewhat chocolate-like, almost like a dense brownie. The pine pollen gives it a woody flavor that reminded my husband of whiskey. He said that if they didn't have such a strong coconut flavor he would for sure eat them again, but the coconut is a bit overpowering if you are someone that doesn't enjoy that flavor.

Travel Pouch by Shiraleah - Listed Value $11 - $21

This pouch is wonderful! I love the woven pattern and gold tassel; it has a handmade quality to it. The pouches featured this month are made of paper straw, nylon, or cotton, which accounts for the variation in listed values. The lining is a bit thin and is not water-resistant, but it looks like you could clean it easily with a wipe if something spilled inside. My makeup bag was looking pretty worn down and gross after many years of use so I decided to switch all of my daily makeup to this cute pouch. It fits everything perfectly and looks so cute sitting on my vanity!

Ahh!-larm Personal Alarm by Bling Sting - Retail Value $24.99

This keychain is such a good item! I decided to gift this to my Mom because she leaves work late at night sometimes and has a little bit of a walk back to her car. It has an LED safety light that is actually really bright so you can use it to light up a dark area or to use when you are walking. With one push of a button, you can ring an alarm to ask for help. You can easily clip it to your keys, a purse, a backpack, or your belt loop. Plus it is glittery and super cute! I'm so happy to be able to gift this to my Mom knowing she will be extra safe at night. This would make a great gift item for anyone in your life!

Happy Is... A Notecard Kit to Send a Little Sunshine by Compendium - Listed Value $14.95, Retail Value $14.77

I am in love with this notecard kit! Like everyone else out there, we are into our second week of quarantine and longing for some human interaction. My son has been making cards for his friends that we have been delivering to doorsteps, and this set reminded me that I can send notes and mail to my friends as well. Who wouldn't love receiving this bright yellow card?! It comes with cards to write in and envelopes. Plus, it has a little booklet that provides you with different quotes that you can use in the cards, and then an area to write who you mailed each card to and what you wrote. Sort of like a letter-writing diary if you will! In these strange times, this kit arrived at just at the right moment so I can spread a little love and joy to my friends and family that I am longing to be with right now. Who are you sending mail to right now?

Facial Cupping Kit by Grace & Stella - Retail Value $22

I know cupping is a big deal to do on your body, especially for athletes. I'm sure we have all seen the professional athletes with cupping marks on their shoulders. The first thing I thought of was, "Will this leave a mark on my face like that?" Let me start by saying that yes, this totally left marks on my face for a few days. I could cover them with makeup and they weren't super noticeable, but I was not super happy to have big hickey-like marks on my face. The box says that cupping helps to reduce the signs of fine lines and wrinkles by plumping the skin. It plumps by boosting collagen making the skin more supple. The steps listed on the box are:

First, apply Jojoba Oil or your favorite facial oil all over your face using the free silicone pad or your fingers, gently squeeze small cups and stick on the temple and brow bone and lips. Use circle motion on temple. Use stick and release motion on brow bone and lips. Repeat  3-4 times, then gently squeeze larger cups and stick cheekbones, forehead, neck and jaw bone using an upwards and circular motion. Repeat 3-4 times. You can do this process for a total of five minutes, 2 to 3 times per week.

I'll be honest, I don't think I will be using this set again because I didn't really notice a difference, just little marks all over my face where the cups went. Did anyone have a positive experience with this set or did you get marks as well? I would love to hear your comments below!

Verdict: This month's box had a ton of self-care items, which I am super grateful for right now! The notecard kit is my favorite item this month because I will be able to send messages of hope and love to my friends and family. The sheet mask gave my skin an amazing glow that I really needed right now, plus it gave me an hour to myself! I was able to reorganize and clean out my makeup so that I could get all of my makeup over into my new pouch, which made me feel refreshed! There were a few products that were a miss for me, like the facial cupping set, but I will say that it was interesting to try. I thought that the overall curation was amazing, giving me a wide variety of products to try from brands that were all new to me. The total listed value comes in around $157.76, well above the $56.90 monthly cost of the box itself. A win in my book!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first month would be the April box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 10 items in the box has an average cost of $5.69.

Seeing cupping in this form is pretty interesting for me. When I was younger I saw my aunt in Vietnam get cupping done, and the person who performed it would swirl a stick of fire on the inside of the cup and then immediately stick it onto my aunt’s back.
Overall this box looks ok, though if I subbed to it I don’t think the products would have excited me very much

That is so interesting! I think I would feel more comfortable having it done professionally than me trying to do it on myself at home. Or maybe I should have watched more tutorials?

I subscribe to the mini box. I didn’t receive the masks, key chain, note cards and pouch. I haven’t tried the bites or cupping yet.

The owl printed bag, does anybody know if they sell it separately? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I wasn’t able to find just the bag on their site, I think it comes specifically with the oil sets for the month.

This was also a miss box for me. The lotions did have a bad smell that i cannot get over, will likely toss it soon, it’s also very watery. I’ve already tossed the cupping kit and one of the oils. I could not even think of someone to give them to. The lip gloss was way too dark of color for me, and a big no to the detox bites. I do love the cards and am sending them daily to people who have to work through this time. I got the car window hammer, hopefully will never need it, but I’ve been meaning to buy one for my car. The bag is nice, I’m using it for my music supplies, like reeds and more, and will definitely give the face masks a try after reading your comments. One reason I get these boxes is to find new items I like, so that process will of course involve finding items I don’t like. No complaints on the box overall, it served its purpose. The cards were so timely!!! My favorite item, I think.

I absolutely agree with you on all points! It is always so fun just learning and finding new items so to me when I don’t love everything I don’t feel that upset about it because that’s what the box journey is all about! The cards are just the best, especially right now. I am so glad to hear you are loving them like me and I’m sure everyone that receives the ones from you love them as well!

I love makeup but I ran out

I also got that lotion.

I like the cupping set, though, I try to use it right before or after the shower. Definitely no marks left behind, feels kinda like I had a nice face massage afterwards.

That is so interesting! I wonder if my skin is just extra sensitive? I literally had the marks for days!
