Sweet Sparkle January 2020 Review

Each month Sweet Sparkle includes an info card with an intro to the theme, products sampled, and their retail values. This month’s theme is “New Year New You” featuring 5 makeup products.

J. Cat Beauty Lipfinity Matte Lip in "Ca$h Money", 0.42 oz – Retail Value $4.99

I had high hopes for this liquid lip, because I usually have luck with J. Cat Beauty products, but this formula felt gritty and drying. This color wouldn't have been my first choice, but I didn't mind it after it was on my lips. I did find that this stayed put on my lips until I removed it, but it wasn't comfortable enough to keep on long.

IBY Beauty Eye Shadow Single in "Bisque", 0.05 oz - Listed Value $9.00

I was surprised to see such a plain eyeshadow shade when I opened this single shadow, but I wasn't disappointed. I tend to go through these "base colors" the fastest, so I appreciate having an extra backup. This formula is creamy and didn't crease or fall out. All in all, a great shadow!

LA Girl Luminous Glow Skin Illuminator in "After Glow" - Retail Value $6.99

This shade is a bronzy gold and is perfect to mix in with foundation for a subtle sheen. I ended up using this as a cheekbone highlight as well, but it wasn't shiny enough to meet my highlighting requirements. I patted this on using just my fingertips, and it seemed to blend into my skin without revealing too much texture. These would be awesome to mix with body lotion for an all-over shimmer look, too.

glam21 One Shot!!! Cocktails Eye Crayon in "Pina Colada" - Retail Value $14.18

Typically, I am all in for chubby eye pencils, but I did not like the way this one went on my eyes. It was not soft enough to blend, and I ended up with uneven color. I never saw a chubby stick skip on my skin, but there is a first time for everything, I guess. I tried to blend this in with a brush, and it just was not working out for me.

Terre Mere Blush Brush  - Retail Value $21

I love receiving beauty tools in subscription boxes! This brush looks so clean and pure I hate to put any product on it; yet, at the same time, I can't wait to try it with my favorite powder blushes. It is the perfect size to apply blush to the apples of my cheeks, and its bristles are very soft.

Swatches of the makeup (top to bottom): LA Girl Skin Illuminator, IBY Beauty Eyeshadow in "Bisque," J. Cat Beauty Matte Lipstick in "Ca$h Money," glam21 Eye Crayon in "Pina Colada"

Here is the look I came up with using all of the products from this month’s box. You can see the thick white eyeshadow which isn't doing much for me as well as the lipstick, which is very, very matte.

Verdict: Sweet Sparkle sent out some cool products in January's box! I really like the Terre Merre brush, the IBY Beauty eyeshadow single, and the L.A. Girl Highlight which helped me create a simple everyday look. This month’s retail value came to $56.16; that is over double the box cost, which is a pretty good value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Your first box will be the current month’s box. So if you sign up in the month of February, you will get the February box, etc.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Boxes And Deals

Not worth it. As others said, spoiled by the likes of Ipsy Plus and BoxyCharm for that price, which have a way higher product value & quality. Also, I don’t know how the IBY single is $9 value, when an entire palette is $20 (which might have made the box more worthwhile but still no equal to the others or even to The Box by Fashionsta)!

This is a great review! I don’t think the products in this box would be worth $25 to me. They seem like products you would get in the regular Ipsy Glam Bag and that’s only $12. These products would be worth $12 to me. It just doesn’t seem like you get much for the box to be that expensive.

Agreed, at that price point, Glam Bag Plus is a wayyy better value! Or for half the price a standard Ipsy bag would have a similar value.

I love the concept of look-in-a-box, but I’m spoiled by Ipsy and expect to see better brands than J.Cat and LA Girl in a subscription box. I could go to walmart and get those. If they could partner with more higher end brands, this could be a fantastic subscription!
