Medusa's Make-Up February 2020 "Heart Breaker" Review

Along with my four makeup items, I received two info cards. One gave an overview and price of each item, and the other folded out to reveal some fun new products available for 2020!

Medusa's Make-Up Liquid Lipstick Matte in Strip Tease - Retail Value $11.95

Gosh, this is a "Marne color", as Megan would say. What a perfect mauve hue for my pout, plus it's matte (my fave). I was expecting to glide this on and have a new favorite liquid lipstick but this is SO STICKY. It didn't want to dry down at all and just kept feeling tacky on my lips the whole time I was wearing it. I couldn't kiss my sweetie or take a sip of water without my lips feeling sticky. After about an hour I simply took it off because I couldn't handle the feeling anymore. Such a shame because I truly adore this color!

Medusa's Make-Up Glam Rock Eyeshadow in Rhapsody - Retail Value $8.95

Medusa has some really cute packaging and this hot pink square compact for pressed eyeshadow is a really fun choice. The color, Rhapsody, has a lovely deep reddish plum hue to it that really accentuates my eyes. I've been wearing my glasses lately since I ran out of contact lenses which means my more usual subtle blush color shadows don't do the trick. This deep color is a bit bolder so I think it works more with my glasses to show "Why yes, I am wearing makeup today". It didn't blend as well as I wanted it to but I wouldn't say it was stubborn. It stayed put pretty well but I did notice creases at the end of the night on my lids as I was removing my makeup. This could just be because of my usually greasy lids.

Medusa's Make-Up Rage Against the Bean Lip Balm - Retail Value $8.95 (on sale now for $2.50)

Nothing too wild here, just some lip balm that I will happily drop into a purse or coat pocket for safekeeping in the winter and fall. As with every Medusa's Make-Up product, this balm is vegan and cruelty-free. I found "Rage Against the Bean", their vanilla flavor, to be quite fitting since Rage Against the Machine (no doubt the inspiration for the name) just announced a tour after a nine-year hiatus. I found the balm to be quite hydrating and while I wouldn't pay the full price of $8.95 for it, the $2.50 sale price seems a bit better.

Medusa's Make-Up Eye Dust in Full Moon - Retail Value $8.00

This is quite the beautiful product! I rarely use a loose powder like this at all, let alone on my eyes but I gave this a go and was really impressed. The white powder looks very unassuming but once it was on my lids, I got purplish-pink iridescent color from this magical dust! Even in the swatch below, I couldn't really get the camera to do it justice. Perhaps layering it over the Glam Rock eyeshadow was the right move since it really just elevates it to a higher place. Only a tiny bit of this is needed on the end of a brush and after lightly tapping it before sweeping it on, there was still plenty to make the magic happen. If you love glitter but don't want the chunky variety, this superfine dust is perfect.

Here are swatches for the eye dust, Glam Rock shadow, and liquid lip matte.

Verdict: My first Medusa's Make-Up Beauty Box came with four products that have a retail value of $37.85 which is well over the cost of the box. I found the colors to be very pretty and the overall look of the line to be super fun. The lipstick ended up being too sticky for me but the eye products were both great and I'll get use of the balm, no problem. Definitely interested to see what future products I'll get to know in this box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? All orders are generally processed within 1-3 business days. You will receive the box month that you sign up in.

  • Eyeshadow: $4.01
  • Lip Balm: $4.01
  • Eye Dust: $3.58

Bummer about the liquid lip 🙁 I was on the fence about this one…the lip colour is also a standard fave colour of mine…but I just can’t do sticky. I’m not sure I can justify $22.95 for a lip balm, a shadow, and a loose pigment…To me it looked almost like Lumi or a Sugarpill loose pigment. But for that price I could just get it from SP 🤷‍♀️ Maybe next month. I’m intrigued! Great review, thanks for posting!!!

I feel the same way about the lipstick. I loved the color, but it was too sticky. I was hoping it would go away with time, but I had to wipe it off because it was really annoying.
