Lip Monthly December 2019 Review

It looks like our December theme is "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" and we received some goodies from a few of their favorite brands.

Each month, Lip Monthly sends their products in a little soft fabric makeup bag which is just a bit bigger than an iPhone Plus (although not quite big enough to fit one inside). This month we have a nice pink bag with lots of red accents!

Hikari Lipstick in Cabernet - Retail Value $15.00 (currently on sale for $5.00!)

Hikari is a brand that we have received before, and I don't really mind it, although they are not as ingredient-conscious as I would like. I think I will make an exception though because this color is fantastic! It is great for winter and the lipstick glides on smoothly and wears comfortably. It does transfer and is not incredibly long-lasting, but overall, I still really like this one.

It's just a nice pop of color without being too much!

Cargo Swimmables Longwear Eyeshadow Stick in Morro Bay - Retail Value $20.00

This month we received a non-lip product in the form of this longwear eyeshadow stick from Cargo. I love the deep bronze color with some shimmer to it and these eyeshadow sticks are great for on the go. This color applied a bit darker than I expected it to and I did try an all-over the lid look and it worked well. It definitely is long-wearing since it is a water-resistant formula, but it allows for a bit of smudging and blending before it sets which is nice. While I'm not a huge fan of eyeshadow sticks like this because I find them more difficult to apply versus traditional powders, they do also have a "Swimmables" eyeliner which I'm tempted to try after seeing how this shadow performed!

Here it is on. While it looks really dark, it still works well on my lids. I just made sure to blend in some lighter colors above my lid and it wasn't too bold!

Sorme Smoochproof Lip Stain in Fatal - Retail Value $17.00

So this stuff is incredibly unique! It literally looks and feels like you are applying marker to your lips! It does take a few swipes since it is pretty dry, but then it wears just like a stain. I felt like I could get some great precision thanks to the tip and the thin formula, but since it is like a marker, the "ink" tends to settle into the cracks and crevices of your lips which isn't a great look when your lips are dry like mine right now! It actually sort of reminded me of red-wine stained lips with how uneven the color looked. I don't think the formula itself was really drying on my lips, but it would definitely be better used on lips with a bit of balm on them or more hydrated lips!

I was afraid the color would be too purple for me, but I found it to be pretty flattering if you ignore the way it accentuated the dry spots! This is also with a few swipes, so I could definitely get a more subtle application if I took it easy.

Here I have some balm over it, but it didn't really help since the color had already set, so I think it would be best used with balm before applying the stain!

Evio Beauty Creamy Lip-spo Liner - Retail Value $10.41

This is a new brand for me, but one I am open to since the formula is 100% natural and ethically-made. It is also cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free, and paraben-free. The liner does go on smoothly thanks to its creamy formula and it has a slightly chalky, matte look. It is actually just about the same color as my lips though, which doesn't work that well to define them, but may help keep other colors in line.

Here it is lining my lips only.

Here I have it all over my lips. It's not too bad, really, but it is just such a subtle difference from my natural lips that there's not really any point to wearing it!

Swatched from top to bottom we have the Cargo eyeshadow, Evio lip liner, Sorme stain, and the Hikari lipstick.

Verdict: This was another solid month of products from Lip Monthly! The Hikari color is great and I also really loved the unique Sorme stain. It is always fun to try something a little different! I thought the Cargo eyeshadow was pretty nice as well. The liner was the only item that was just okay since it didn't do much for my lips, but because it is more of a nude, it might help make some of the nude lippies I've been collecting from previous months work out a little better for me! With a total retail value of $62.41, I am pretty happy with this $12.95/month subscription!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

My December lip monthly plus bag was different than this but there were scratches on the bag. I also received hikari lipstick in red , sorme lip stain in dark brown and the lip pencil in almost same shade as you. The lip stain was indeed very dry and settled on the cracks.
I cancelled my subscription immediately as I was not at all impressed with the products. I got a lipstick from cargo which was another shade of red and BIY liquid lipstick in nude but it’s wand was wonky, an eye shadow pallet and a single eyeshadow. Lip monthly team is still looking into my request for duplicate and damaged items from 2 months.

Amy

That’s the exact lip liner in the February Kinder Beauty Box!

It seems like a nice liner, and the shade is perfect for me!

FYI I clicked on the link above and it did not direct me to them. By physically entering: https://lipmonthly.com I was successful.

The bag is pretty cute!

I love that style of lip stain! e.l.f. used to make my favorites because they were so inexpensive, but I think they discontinued them. Tpsy has one that I’d like to try.

The Cargo Swimmables eyeliners are good (I tested the limits by wearing the eyeliner to Great Wolf Lodge), but I feel like they do tug on the eye a bit as you apply, especially compared to gel pencil liners that can glide on so easily.

I’ll have to check into the Tpsy one! Thanks for reading, Marion! 🙂
