JoahBox January 2020 "Cheers to New Years" Review

When you first subscribe to JoahBox, there are four drop-down menus to customize your experience:

You will choose your birth month, skin tone (ranging from "very fair" to "dark brown"), your skin type (oily, dry, combination, acne-prone, dull/aging, or sensitive/redness) and if you'd prefer to receive more skincare, makeup, or both.

JoahBox includes a small booklet that goes over each item, the retail value, and how to use it. Best to keep this on hand just in case the packaging doesn't have instructions in English!

Cremorlab Thalasso Foam Cleanser, - Retail Value $25.99

There's something about this cleanser... I love it! Maybe it's the French green clay? It smells fantastic and it has a nice thick creamy texture that foams as I add water and massage it into my face. It just feels really nice and really cleans my face without drying it out. It makes me feel luxurious too since it's so much like a clay mask which is my fave! I will be seriously considering buying this cleanser again!

Celebeau Sassy Glam Eye Glitter in Twinkle Berry, 0.31 oz. - Retail Value $12.00

Wow- this liquid eye shadow has a tremendous amount of pigment! I received the pinkish/purple color called "Twinkle Berry" but there were two other variants (Aurora Moon and Flash Bronze). The liquid dries down really quickly, so you have to work fast to get this where you want it on your lids, but once you do- it sets really well. The glitter does flake slightly if smudged, but the pigment will hold its ground.

HME PomPom Ball x2 - Total Listed Value $10.00 ($5.00 each)

These are very interesting little things. I've never seen or even heard of a pompom ball. Each freeze-dried ball is in its own little capsule package and contains a ton of collagen and hyaluronic acid. It can be used as a little booster to serums or sleeping packs (like the one below). It dissolves really quickly in whatever product you put it in and makes for a nice addition to up your skincare regimen! This is the perfect example of why I love K-Beauty. There are always new ideas!

Aritaum Mugwort Sleeping Pack, 200 mg - Listed Value $1.50

This sleeping pack has enough for about two overnight treatments which is a great value for just $1.50. Mugwort has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties that will benefit the skin so this clear serum will work wonders as you rest. I ended up mixing one of my pompom balls with this in a small bowl and when I woke in the morning, my skin was looking super fresh!

Gangbly Jeju Vita Aqua Mask - Listed Value $2.00

I really needed this mask this week. My skin has been so dry and getting two facials a week in Esthetician school is not helping things. This baby is packed with moisture and vitamin C and after 10 minutes, my skin drank up everything it had to offer. It felt cooling while on, fit my face quite well, and didn't have too much serum left afterward.

Ibiza Spa Multi-Vitamins Elasticity Solution Ampoule Serum, 1.05 oz. - Listed Value $10.00

Out of the three possible variations, I received the Multi-Vitamins Elasticity Solution which is supposed to brighten and improve the elasticity of my skin. This product has a slightly thicker formula that is a lot like some of the essences on a sheet mask. Think of it like a thinned down honey, but clear. It has a lovely pink ombre glass bottle with its own dropper to dispense a controlled amount to your fingertips. I'm not a huge fan of the scent that comes along with this one though, as it's a bit floral-y for me. It absorbs quickly and seems to soften as well. As I just saw on the JoahBox Instagram account, you can add this to your pompom ball for an extra boost of collagen.

Body Holic Yellow Potion, 1 oz. - Listed Value $5.50

I'm very very into this lotion!! I wasn't sure what to expect from "raspberry sandalwood", but my word, it is heavenly! Fruity yet slightly woody is my new favorite thing. It's not greasy at all and ends in a nice soft finish on my hands that really moisturizes. There were two other variations of this one (freesia/iris and rose/musk), but I'm super happy with the scent I received! I just wish I had more of it!

Verdict: JoahBox sent me mostly skincare this month with a makeup product as well. There were hits and misses for me, but overall I always have fun discovering new products from this box. The lotion and cleanser were the biggest hits with me while the serum and glitter shadow weren't. I loved having a pompom ball adventure and feel like I'm a little more in the know now! Per usual, most of the items weren't available to purchase from a reputable site online, so using the listed retail values, this box has a total value of $66.99 which is almost double the cost.

Don’t sub to Joah box now, as they’re ending with the March box, according to an email I received today.
But, they may still have a sale on for past boxes, and separate contents on their site. Haven’t checked yet. Just received the two I ordered recently!

“Yellow Potion” is an ADORABLE name with equally adorable packaging.

That liquid eye shadow looks just like the Kaja shadow that’s currently in the Boxy pop up sale!
