Our Ipsy Glam Bag Ultimate February 2020 Review

We didn't receive much of an info booklet this month which was kind of a bummer because I like to read through each of the products and this has no product info.

This month our bag is soft mauve velvet with a quilted texture, complemented by a burgundy interior. Very polished and chic!

Now, on to the items!

Violet Voss Fun Sized Mini Eyeshadow Palette in 'Berry Burst' - Retail Value $18.00

This is a very cute little palette filled with warmer tones in yellow, brown, pink, and red. I actually think for how warm these are they are surprisingly versatile, even on my fair skin. All are well pigmented and very soft, blending well with one another. There is a little bit of fallout (especially with a brush) but that is forgivable!

The top row is swatched above.

And here is the bottom row.

Sweet Chef Mask Trio- Retail Value $9.00

Yay! I also received these in my Plus bag and absolutely loved them. This trio consists of two clear serum masks and one super creamy one. I loved each and every one of them for the great formula and fit. My favorite would be that creamy kale one. It left my skin positively dewy and so hydrated. The other two (ginger and beet!) felt more on the brightening side but still left my skin looking great.

Each has a cute little cheek illustration.

Feel Harmony Rose Petal Facial Mask, 3.4 fl oz - Retail Value $55.00

This is a new brand for me, but I am into it. I love the packaging! I know that isn't the most important thing, but hey, we can all admit that we like it when our products look cute on our vanities or in the occasional shelfie. This clear mask is filled with rose petal pieces and smells very rosy. It looks a little goopy going on, but I am so happy that I finally received a non-clay mask for once! This is the type that never really dries and keeps its wet, gel texture. You wash it off and your skin is super soft and hydrated after. This reminded me more than a little of Fresh's Rose Face Mask, which is another fave of mine, so I am quite pleased!

Playa New Day Hair Mist, 5.4 fl oz - Retail Value $24.00

Ok, this is pretty much my favorite product so far this entire year, out of any box. I am obsessed! This spray is part hair perfume, part mist. It works like an incredible hair refresher for those days where you need a little tousle that makes sense after you sleep with your hair in a bun and it's looking a little crazy. Simply mist your hair all over (it is light enough to not weigh your tresses down, so no worries!) finger comb, and go. The scent is literally incredible too; it sticks in your hair all day and I have found myself using this just for the perfume aspect even if my hair looks fine. I plan on buying this over and over and I love it so freaking much that I want to try out this brand's shampoo and conditioner too.

TokyoMilk Anthemoessa Handcreme, 2.7 fl oz - Retail Value $22.00

I love me some Margot Elena, and her TokyoMilk line is my fave because it is always just a little quirky or weird. This scent is of citrus and jasmine, with just a little bit of woods. These formulas always work really well on my skin and I love having such a pretty tube of hand cream close by in my purse.

Folly Fire Lipstick in 'Sunset BLVD', 4.5 g - Retail Value $15.00

This was another new brand to me, but I knew immediately I liked this color. Mostly pink with a little mauve, this is one of those universally flattering spring shades that I can't imagine anyone really hating. Although this is called a matte finish, it felt a little more like a satin in terms of texture, though without much shine. The coverage is really great and it lasts a few hours without needing a touchup.

Very smooth and pretty!

Shaina B. Miami Brush Set

The last thing I need is more brushes, but gosh I love them. I can't even handle how excited I get over something I totally don't need at all. This set of 5 is mostly eye focused with the exception of a little concealer brush. The others are for blending, smudging, eye crease, and your general shadow. They have synthetic bristles that are very soft and minimal black plastic handles. The rose gold ferrules are a nice touch!

Grace & Stella Co Rose Quartz Face Roller - Retail Value $29.00

I wasn't too excited about this at first, because I have a few from different boxes. What makes this specific one more exciting is that the inside of the rose quarts heads actually have a plastic guard where they meet the metal. This means NO SQUEAKING! I am sorry I doubted you, Grace & Stella roller! This one will certainly replace my others due to this one very awesome feature. I placed this one in the fridge for about 45 minutes then used it on my face over top that kale sheet mask that also arrived in this box. Dreamy!!

Polaar Lip Balm, 0.35 oz - Retail Value $10.89

Who doesn't have super chapped lips right now? With spring finally trying to take over, this is the time of year to make sure your pucker is soft for all those pretty pastel lippies you are going to wear all spring. This lip balm is really nourishing and I decided to keep it next to my bed to use before I sleep each night. My lips always feel so smooth when I wake up. While I adore the scent of this product, it doesn't really feel like one that belongs on my lips, so sleeping in it also helps with that too.

Skylar Capri Body Lotion, 30 ml - Retail Value $3.36 (Buy a full-size 250 ml for $28.00)

I am a Skylar superfan (I also review their Scent Club subscription!) so I was excited to see them in a box for the first time. Though I loved this lotion formula, Capri is a little too sweet for me in terms of scent. It is like a bowl of sugared citrus on a sunshine-filled vacation. I think I would like this one more if it was a little more complex or spicy.

TONYMOLY Avette Water Flash Coconut Water Cream, 10 ml - Retail Value $5.33 (Buy a full-size 45 ml for $24.00)

If you follow my reviews, you know I am not a huge coconut fan (summer is hard for me!). That being said, I didn't really mind the scent of this cream. It is 70% coconut water and very light! It felt really great on my face and would be an excellent lightweight summer moisturizer, specifically for after getting some sun since it is very hydrating. A little went a long way, so even though this is a smaller tube, I could see it lasting quite some time.

Callyssee Better Bean Clean Face Coffee Cleanser, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.74 (Buy a full-size 4 fl oz for $21.95)

Finally, our last item is a little sample tube of coffee cleanser. Despite being a coffee item, it really had much more of a fresh scent that I quite liked. It is a very heavy gel that clings to your face in a great way, and there is a small amount of coffee bean particles that provide just the right amount of skin stimulation and exfoliation. Very surprised at how much I enjoyed this!

Verdict: This box has a value of around $176.32 even without the 5 piece brush set. That is a good value for a $50 box. I am really impressed with this Ultimate bag. Like, a lot more than I expected to be. There were a lot of really great brands and formulas inside. It seemed to be a perfect mix of brands I already knew and new ones I had been a little curious about. It also seemed to have a nice mix of makeup, tools, and skincare, which is always appreciated. I feel like maybe Ultimate is hitting its stride and I can't wait to see what shows up next.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $50 so each of the 12 items has an average cost of $4.17 (not including the bag!). I counted the trio of masks and the brush set both as a single items each, but if you split them up the estimated cost per item drops even more!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Why don’t the brushes have a price value? I love those brushes I got them in plus.

I tried the Playa thinking it would act kind of like a dry shampoo or texturizing spray, but it seemed to make my hair oily and weighed down. Need to try again, maybe? I’m also hoping the scent grows on me, because it is super intense and very unique! My all-time favorite hair product scent is the TIGI Bed Head hairspray in the blue aerosol can. I try to avoid hairsprays with alcohol in them, but the scent it to die for and I get tons of compliments every time I use it.

I initially had the same issue with it because it seemed to leave my hair more damp than I expected, but I just hit it with a cool hair dryer for a minute, and it worked great as a refresher to get the kinks out of my hair after sleeping with it in a bun.

Great to know! I need that–I have a bun 24/7 until I leave the house, so it’s a persistent issue for me, haha.

The scents on the lip balm and the hair mist are atrocious for anyone who doesn’t like floral smelling and tasting Stuff on their lips or doesn’t like an overwhelming and day long persistent smell of baby powder. I couldn’t get past the scent of either product to get a feel for the actual performance.

Yeah, I was not a fan of the Playa smell. It made me think of old lady perfume.

It smells powdery to me, like Cabbage Patch dolls.

Are your GBP and GBU bags on separate accounts?
I thought Ipsy specifically promised no duplicates if ordering both!

Glad it’s an item you like for sure, but still not great if Ipsy sent the same thing twice!

Hey Amy! I believe these were both under separate accounts. Luckily, I loved these and I am thrilled to have more.

Glad to hear it on both counts! Love your reviews and seeing what everyone else gets in their bag!
