Home Made Luxe February 2020 Review
Let's take a look inside February's Home Made Luxe box - this month the craft is a felt flower wall hanging!

A folded pamphlet goes over the steps for creating this sign, and also lists all the supplies and materials that are included in the box. Interestingly, the box sends hot glue sticks, but does not include the necessary hot glue gun needed to use them - you have to supply the hot glue gun yourself.
There is also a more detailed video that you can access for more instructions on their website. I felt like this craft was very straightforward, so I didn't need the video help this month, but it's always nice to have a reference if you have questions about a certain step!

We also received printed templates and step-by-step instructions on how to make each of the three flower types shown in the example sign. The example sign shows different leaf shapes, but we did not get templates for those.
Wooden Board
The board on which to make the sign came pre-assembled, with a short rope attached to the top. The wood is quite rough and unfinished - if you wanted a smoother look, you would have to sand the wood prior to painting it.
Felt Sheets
To complete this project, we received seven pieces of felt - two red, two light pink, a medium green, a dark green, and an off-white. Each sheet of felt is the size of a regular sheet of paper (8.5" x 11").
White Acrylic Paint
We also received a small tube of white acrylic paint, along with a sponge brush.
Rope
Next up is a small length of rope, to be used in the design of the sign.
Hot Glue Sticks
The last item is five hot glue sticks. As I mentioned above, you need to provide your own hot glue gun for this project. I do think it's nice that they included some extra glue sticks, though - you can always use more!
Now, let's get crafting!

The first step is to paint the wooden sign with the white paint. The instructions say to do one coat of paint for a more rustic look, and two coats for a brighter look. After one coat of paint I was happy with how my sign was looking, so I left it at that and got onto cutting out flowers.

The first type of flower we received instructions for is a rose. The instructions suggest that we should use tape to adhere the pattern template to the felt prior to cutting, but I decided to use sewing pins instead. The pins really helped keep the template in place while I was cutting out the shape.
To make the rose, I started on the outer edge of the felt shape and glued around in a spiral. I think it looks so pretty!

The next type of flower took a little bit more assembly. I first cut out several small and large circles, and then cut them into half-moon shapes. I created the center of the rosette with the off white felt, and then glued the half circles around it until the rosette took a good shape. I then added two leaves to the back. This flower is super cute, too!

The last flower is a chrysanthemum, and this was the easiest one to make. I glued a strip of felt in half long-ways, and then cut down into the open end to create lots of little loops. I then rolled and glued the strip to create the flower.
Here are all three completed flowers. My favorite to make was the chrysanthemum, but I think my favorite looking one is the rose!
After I made the three flowers based on the instructions, I got creative and just started making whatever I felt like. I really liked changing up the size of the rectangle of felt I used for the chrysanthemum, which gave me smaller and larger flowers. I just kept making flowers until I felt like I had plenty to work with for my wall hanging.

In the original sample of this project, there is a rope circle with flowers around it. I felt like the rope was a little bit too rustic for my taste, and I knew I would get more use out of a more simple flower bouquet. I played around with the arrangement of the flowers until I was happy with the layout, and then I hot glued them down to the wood board. I then added in leaves around the outside to finish out the design. I am so happy with how this turned out!
Here's my finished project hanging up! I brought it to my office and hung it on a door. I think it's perfect for Valentine's Day decor, and it is so bright and cheerful. I also liked that I was able to have a little bit of creativity in how I arranged the flowers for my final product.
There was also a bonus hang tag for a door with the phrase "Craftaholic at work: do not disturb, unless you have wine" - so funny, and so true!
Verdict: I thought this was a fun box! I like the idea that I am given all of the materials to make a project straight from the top feeds of Pinterest, and I thought the presentation of the supplies and instructional materials were very well put-together. I thought each flower shape was easy to learn how to create, and this is such an accessible craft for many people. I enjoyed getting to try a new craft and love that I can create a modern, handmade decoration for my home.
For about $39.99, we received supplies and materials to make one felt flower design on a wooden board, along with a video tutorial. I think this is a fair price for what we received, especially when taking into consideration the curation and planning of the box.
