Favorite Cherished Heirloom Jewelry Subscription Box Review January 2020

My box arrived with a note regarding general advice when estimating sterling jewelry values as well as individual notes for each of my pieces. I think their estimated values are probably pretty accurate, especially since sterling isn't as cheap as it used to be.

I am pretty thrilled you all wanted this reviewed, especially since I love vintage jewelry and pretty much have to wear sterling or gold these days due to metal sensitivities. Per reader request, we did order this box anonymously. Like all of you, I was so incredibly curious as to what might show up in such a unique subscription, so let's get to it!

Polished Quartz Ring

This ring is unmarked and very obviously handmade. I think it has a lot of personality! I really like oversized stones on thinner bands, so this is right in line with something I would wear. I will say that this ring is too big, but still wearable. I believe this is likely a rose quartz cab too, due to that palest pink hue.

Although it is very loose, I like this ring!

Shell Inlay Cuff Bracelet

You all know I go weak for a cuff. This one is pretty ornate and reasonably heavy, meaning there is a lot of silver going on here in terms of weight. The center is a shell inlay design of a pink flower. The shell pieces around the petals are of multicolored abalone. I don't wear lots of stuff like this anymore, though I used to be all about a more boho jewelry look. This piece is unique, and arguably well made, but I am not sure I would ever really wear it often. Since I used to love this sort of thing, I plan on hanging on to this to see if maybe this spring I lean a little more free-spirited style-wise.

Teenage Megan would have LOVED this.

Verdict: This month's Favorite Cherished Heirloom Jewelry has just two pieces, but they were both very nice. The ring is much more along the lines of something I would wear pretty often, and it is delightfully heavy and well made. Add in a one of a kind patina and I am sold! The cuff is also quite pretty, but I am unsure of how it would fit into my overall style. There were only 2 pieces this time, but this box does advertise between 1-3 depending on the pieces selected. Of course, I do think the odds of liking more of your box improve with more items, but I understand why they sent just 2 rather heavy pieces.

I do feel the need to stress that this box is totally random. I have no idea of knowing what will show up, and the only customization I can offer is my ring size. If you are someone who is picky about jewelry, this isn't the box for you. If you tend to really love vintage pieces and want more sterling silver in your jewelry box, give this one a try, but remember to keep your expectations realistic and your mind open! It is certainly something totally different than my other boxes.

This was part of my wrap-up last month and I feel like these thoughts are pretty important to include again in such a specific and mystery-type subscription.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Every box is different and a total surprise. You can expect between 1-3 pieces each month.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $35.00 a month + free shipping, which means that each of the 2 items in the box has an average cost of $17.50.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I was a little disappointed with my first box. After answering the questionnaire I was under the impression that I would not receive any bracelets. My first box had a bracelet with several missing stones. I emailed and they are sending an additional piece in my next box.

Sorry for reposting this, I wasn’t sure Megan would see the question if it was in a reply.

@Megan: Had you provided them with your ring size before they shipped the box?

I can appreciate the box’s comment that (even smashed) silver jewelry has some value simply due to the silver it contains. BUT is seems a bit odd, if not misleading, that they then specify the weight of each item — and they do it right above the line “purity: .925 sterling.” An item’s weight includes not just the silver, but anything else in the setting (e.g., that big stone in the ring)!

Not 100% sure how weighing pieces works, but I will say that the ring is actually heavier in hand than the bracelet so I guess they have some way of doing this?

And yes, you are prompted to enter in your ring size when you sign up! 🙂

@megan. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. yes, you mentioned they allow you to specify ring size, but my question trying to get at whether they completely ignored the size info you provided or whether you hadn’t yet specified a size. Thx.

Alice

That bracelet is spectacular! It’s the type of piece I would wear daily.

This is my favorite one you have received so far from this box. Love abalone in jewelry since it picks up whatever color you are wearing . I don’t normally like flowery stuff but the bracelet was saved by the abalone.

Do they not take ring size into account? I’ve seen several complaints about people getting rings that don’t fit and as someone with unusually tiny fingers that makes me hesitate when this would usually be an instant yes

Drooling over that ring!! I agree with Marion that your nail polish is super pretty.

Thanks Amy! It is 3 coats of Morgan Taylor’s “All The Queen’s Bling”. It is my favorite polish!

Thanks for the info!

Sterling is 57 cents a gram right now (it changes frequently) but you do have to account for some workmanship to make the pieces.

I NEED that ring in my life. What a beauty!

The style of the ring is pretty nice, but it looks to be in questionable condition.

Your nail polish is pretty!

You’d think they’d polish their jewelry. Silver polishes up so well so easily

I would say the large majority of vintage silver jewelry I have bought comes as-is. People often want that aged patina.

Megan K.

It def looks incredibly handmade, but it is solid as a rock, so I am great with its “character”. The polish is “All the Queen’s Bling” by Morgan Taylor (3 coats). It is my fave right now!

I absolutely would wear both of those pieces. What a lovely unique box. This is a box where the items would truly be a surprise every month.
