Bombay & Cedar "Refresh" Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. The theme this month is "Refresh."

Gingergrass Essential Oil by Bombay & Cedar, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

Refresh Essential Oil Blend by Bombay & Cedar, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

Both of these blends are so bold! I don't love the taste or smell of ginger, but I thought the gingergrass blend was a nice mix of wood and citrus. Since the smell is not my favorite, I decided to pass this along to my Mom who loves the fresh ginger scent. The refresh blend really packed a punch! I had it in my diffuser upstairs in my bedroom and the smell reached all the way downstairs filling our family room and kitchen! It is very fresh and says that it is great for opening your sinuses. I will say that I got a major 'Pinesol' smell with this one, which isn't my favorite, but I think it smells nice when used in small amounts. Especially if I need to clear my nose and fill the house with a fresh scent!

Glass Reed Diffuser in Strawberry Prosecco by Spa Room, 200 ml/6.76 fl oz fragrance - Listed Value $30 (found on sale here for $19.99)

This diffuser is beautiful! It is hand-blown glass and comes with a strawberry prosecco fragrance solution that is made with 100% essential oils. Prepping the diffuser is so easy, just pour in the solution and add the reeds for a long-lasting scent. This diffuser is so chic, I added it to my master bath among some candles to add an extra spa-like look. I don't love the strawberry prosecco fragrance that was included with the diffuser (I am more of a woodsy/winter scent person), but I can always buy a new solution once this runs out. The fragrance does a great job of filling my entire bathroom with a lovely fruity scent while looking oh so stylish!

Ginger Snap Cookies by Partake Cookies, 1 oz - Listed Value $1.29

These vegan cookies are free of the top 8 allergens! I received the ginger snap flavor which is made with a gluten-free flour blend, organic cane sugar, high oleic sunflower oil, water, dehydrated sweet potato powder, dried plum juice concentrate, vanilla extract, baking soda, sea salt, ginger, cinnamon, and rosemary extract. As I said before, I am not a fan of ginger and these cookies really packed in the ginger taste. Which is great if you like ginger, I just found the overall taste to be too overpowering, but that is just me. I also don't love a crunchy cookie, totally opinion based, so these fell flat for me in terms of taste and texture.

Who Knew? 10,001 Household Solutions by Jeanne & Bruce Lubin - Retail Value $24.99 (found on sale here for $14.79)

My husband has now claimed this book as his own. Honestly, he is obsessed with it! I have found him on the couch reading it, my son now asks him to read 'facts' from the book, and whenever I say anything he says, "Let me check my book for a solution!" I will admit, it is a pretty awesome and super handy book! It is filled with solutions and remedies for pretty much anything you could think of, from how to clean your garbage disposal to clearing swimmers' ear. We basically ran right out and bought white vinegar and fresh lemons because that is what you will need to fix many things! I love how much my husband loves it, and if it gets him to fix things around the house that we normally wouldn't attend to then I am all for it!

Citrus Dish Soap Sample by Opulent Blends, 1.0 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.50 (Buy 16 fl oz for $8)

I'll admit, I'm not used to receiving sample sizes in this box so I was a little bummed to see this little guy. However, I do a ton of dishes in my house so I was excited to have a little extra dish soap while learning and trying out a 'new to me' brand! This soap is biodegradable and eco-friendly, plus it is made with all-natural ingredients and essential oils. I loved the bold citrus smell with hints of lemon, and it left my hands feeling clean and moisturized (a win for me since my hands are so dry this time of year). I would have loved to see more suds, but it left everything looking clean and cut through some extra sticky pans that I cooked with.

Coconut Kitchen Brush by EcoCoconut - Retail Value $6.99

I love this kitchen brush so much! It gets into hard to reach places and has a longer handle that is easy to hold when scrubbing. It is non-scratch so I can use it on my non-stick pans, a big plus for me since that is all I use. The bristles are hard so it really helps to lather nicely while getting all of my pans extra clean. Plus, it looks so chic on my sink and it is biodegradable!

Charcoal Purifying Bags by California Home Goods, 2 pack - Listed Value $15 (Buy one large bag here for $15.99)

This is a super interesting product! The charcoal is used to get rid of unpleasant odors, excess moisture, trapped allergens, bacteria, mold, and mildew. The charcoal is in an eco-friendly cotton bag that you can purchase in different colors to match your decor. I received two bags so I put one in a bathroom and the other in our coat closet. I can't tell if they are working yet (will that be something that I can tell?) but I love knowing that they are in there to eliminate odors and bacteria!

Nail Clipper Duo Set by Almost Famous - Listed Value $18

These are fancy nail clippers! This set of two comes in rose gold with one large and one small clipper. I gave my husband the small to use in his travel toiletry kit and am keeping the larger for myself. They both have a soft-touch finish which makes them easy to hold. I used the large clipper the other day, but I wasn't thrilled with the sharpness. I couldn't get my nail to clip off so I had to keep going over which left my nails a bit rough. I have been using the same brand of clippers for years so I might just need to get used to these, but I will for sure continue using them!

Teeth Whitening Kit by Cougar Beauty, set of 3 - Retail Value $52.17 (£39.99)

This is something that I wouldn't normally buy for myself! My parents used to give my brothers and me teeth whitening kits in our stockings at Christmas, but I don't get a stocking anymore so no more kits, hahaha! My kit is the seven-day usage, I received three gel syringes and an LED light gum shield. It is fluoride-free and easy to use right at home while seeing professional-grade whitening. According to the Cougar Beauty site, "With the use of the LED light, our gel formula can penetrate deep into the teeth's layers for faster, longer-lasting results." I've only used one of the three gels so far, but I am eager to see if I get dentist office quality results!

Verdict: This month's box had a wonderful curation that seemed to focus more on home goods with some personal care items sprinkled in. While I wasn't obsessed with the box, I thought overall it was really nice! The curation was great and the quality was above and beyond for the majority of the products featured this month. I am in love with the diffuser, brush, and teeth whitening kits! My husband has found his new favorite book in the Who Knew? copy which makes me laugh while being very happy for him, hahaha! I was a little bummed by the ginger snap cookies and the dish soap sample, but those are more based on my personal preference. What I think I love the most about this box in general, especially this month, is their focus on eco-friendly products and a chance for me to learn about 'new to me' brands that I don't think I would seek out on my own. The total listed value comes in around $181, well above the $56.90 monthly cost of the box itself. A win in my book!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first month would be the March box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 10 items in the box has an average cost of $5.69.

The little purple packet? It’s a sample of antibacterial gel.

This is my first box from this sub and I liked all of the products. I did not receive the brush and emailed Bombay and Cedar several weeks ago and never received a reply. Has anyone else had customer service issues with this sub?

I received a smashed open, taped shut box that was missing items. I emailed customer service and they sent me a whole new box. That was my only interaction with them and they were pretty nice.

Yes, customer service has gotten much worse. Issues take a long time to resolve and typically require multiple emails.
I’ve had CS issues every month for several months (incorrect billing, slow shipping, poorly packaged items resulting in damage), and I have not been satisfied with the speed in response.

This was a really fun and diverse box for sure! Yes, that book is SO interesting and handy. I have left it out on the coffee table and pick it up nearly every day to browse through solutions for things. I received the cookies in a chocolate chip flavor and they were divine. 😍
