February 2020 BeautyFIX Review

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 7 (!!!) different items this month, so strap in!

Doctor Rogers RESTORE Healing Balm, 0.5 oz – Retail Value $30.00

I have psoriasis on my legs (I thought it was eczema until a recent dermatologist visit) and I am super careful about what I put on my skin for this reason. I was given a topical steroid, but when you use those frequently they actually thin your skin, which sounds like a nightmare. I have a larger size tube of this from a different box and I have found it really works well on my legs because the ingredient list is so simple and there are no added fragrances. It also is a dream on cuticles, dry elbows, and knees. This tube is very small (especially for the price) but a little goes a long way and this is perfection for pockets or a purse on the go.

PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $28.75 (Buy a full-size 1 oz for $115.00)

Oh, wow, this stuff legit feels amazing on my skin. It has a little bit of a weird scent (baking bread…?) but I don’t mind. It left my skin feeling like a dream, which isn’t shocking since it is full of ceramides, niacinamide, and my boo, hyaluronic acid. I applied it after cleansing, and before my daily moisturizer. My texture was immediately smoother and there was a high moisture level that lasted all day, even under makeup and powder.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O, 100 ml – Retail Value $5.90

I use micellar water to rinse off my eye makeup (and more) almost nightly. Though my favorite is by Avène, this one is nice too, and does its job well. Simply apply some to a cotton ball or pad and gently wipe away the day. It removed even stubborn waterproof makeup with very little effort.

100% Pure Deep Hydration Sheet Mask – Retail Value $6.00

So I am not someone who is generally very stressed out. I am pretty even keel and happy go lucky 99% of the time. This last week has really been a doozy though, and I fear it is showing in my skin. I have been trying to take a breath and really pamper my face because I hate how dull and lifeless it looks in the mirror. This mask was a lifesaver. It was so saturated with this clear serum with loads of hydration. The combo of ceramides, cucumber, and hyaluronic acid must have been exactly what I needed because I looked a lot less haggard after I removed it.

Here is a very glamourous image of me enjoying this mask while reviewing this box.

lilah b. Aglow Face Mist, 10 ml – Estimated Value $16.00 (Buy a full-size 30 ml for $48.00)

I am kind of a mist hoarder. I just love the refreshing feeling they give on top of makeup throughout the day and I always use them at night too because they hydrate my skin beautifully between skincare steps. This is a smaller sample, but it is ideal for my purse. Floral ones tend to be my favorites (I have a jasmine and a rose one I use daily) and this lavender-scented mist is dreamy. It adds a nice dewiness to my finished face.

R+Co RODEO STAR Thickening Style Foam, 1 fl oz – Estimated Value $6.40 (Buy a full-size 5 oz for $32.00)

I have really thick hair but I love adding more volume. This is the sort of mousse you use on your hair when it is damp, then blow-dry. I don’t ever really blow dry my hair but I found it still added some nice lift to air-dried hair too. It also smells fantastic!

Dermelect Rapid Repair Facial Moisturizer, 0.5 fl oz – Estimated Value $5.76 (Buy a full-size 3.3 fl oz for $38.00)

Finally, our last item is a really nice moisturizing cream for sensitive skin. The formula itself is a really pretty pale blue color. The texture here is quite nice, and though this is heavy in terms of moisturizing power, it didn’t feel heavy on my face. The chamomile and azulene helped reduce my redness a little too, which is always appreciated. I like this enough to make it a day cream option until the tube is empty for sure!

Verdict: This month’s BeautyFIX has a value of $98.81, which is very nice for a $24.95 box. I can always count on great brands inside this box, and everything this month was pretty awesome and totally useable. There was a nice assortment of face, body, and hair items inside and I think if I had to select favorites, it would be the Doctor Rogers balm and the PCA serum, though picking faves is hard from a curation this nice.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

  1. If any of you received the Verso serum in the Ipsy bag a couple of months ago, it is very similar to the PCA serum. The yeasty smell is the niacinimide. That stuff is the bomb. I became so obsessed that I bought around 60 tubes on auction. It really helps with dry skin. Immediately. From 220 sandpaper to super soft and smooth overnight. I really believe that MSA needs an “older” reviewer. I appreciate that everyone is so young and now, but at 53, I could really appreciate a review from a contemporary. And I do agree on the Caudalie Grape Water… amazing stuff, no scent requisition.

    • I agree that MSA needs a couple of older reviewers to give a perspective on skin that has aged. A 50s and 60s duo would be fantastic. We appreciate all the reviewrest here; but, they skew toward the youthful side.

    • Yes. Yes. Yes. I agree completely.

    • I looked up Verso serum….would love to try but at $130 just can’t do it….sigh….

    • i agree…they need someone a lttle oldr to review creams & serums….someone who does hve some wrinkles…to base an accurate review on…. i do appriciate being able to read reviews frm “my subscription addiction” but showing someone w wrinkles & the real results on them & their opinion would b great..& really helpful…!! ~as i am 49…& they all look to b so much youngr w no visable wrinkles…

  2. I was disappointed with that facial mist. The mister-pump thing would spray just once and then clog up/stream out. Otherwise the rest of the box was okay, not the best but definitely not the worst from them. Hanging in there for a bit longer.

  3. How do you look so nice while masking? I love to use sheet masks, but I literally look like a serial killer whenever I do. LOL

    • So that’s why my husband calls me Jason! 😝

    • I thought the same thing! Glad it’s not just me!

    • I scare my poor cats and the kids laugh!

    • Haha! WIll absolutely thinks I look insane when I mask. I think this was just a well-timed office shot. <3

  4. Megan, I love that candid shot of you in your face mask! I think all the awesome products you get to try really help your skin, you look 21, no 20! (P.S. that’s a cute looking MAC bag you have there).

I’m obsessed with mists too. I just use them after I cleanse in the shower and after I cleanse in the morning. I also use it before I think I’m going to dry out (before I sauna or sit in a dry office). I’ve been really loving my Maya Chia Optimist and was sad that I finished my 5YINA Hydrolat. I also like the Naobay mist and it’s one of the more affordable ones.

    • Thanks so much, Flora! Between the facials Marne and I are getting frequently at school and all the MSA skincare review items, I do feel like my face looks pretty good! (We were waxing last week so my chin is in a red, red rage, but that will pass haha!)

Mac bag is from the Birchbox X Mac set. I have used it ever since that review! Thrilled there are more mist addicts out there. My fave right now is Ranavat Jasmine Tonique, but I do love Naobay too! Maya Chia is on my “to try someday” list.

  5. Megan, I just came across an article that was talking about the best creams for Psoriasis… what timing 🙂 I’d post the link to the article, but I fear it might not take, so here’s the list of products that were mentioned: 🙂

    CeraVe Psoriasis Moisturizing Cream
Curel Hydratherapy Itch Defense Wet Skin Moisturizer
Gold Bond Ultimate Multi-Sympton Psoriasis Relief Cream
    Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Nourishing Balm
Dove DermaSeries Fragrance Free Skin Balm
    CeraVe SA Moisturizing Cream
    Isdin Uradin Lotion 10
    Eucerin Roughness Relief Lotion
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
    DermaER Psoriasis Medicated Cream
    Psoriasin Deep Moisturizing Ointment

Hopefully you’ll be able to find something from this list that’ll work for you 🙂 I noticed that no Aveeno products were listed, but I’ve found anything from that brand has always helped in soothing the occasional random eczema flare up I get on my hands. Just another brand I thought I’d mention. 🙂

    • This was so kind of you to post. Truly, thank you! I have tried only a few of these, so this is an awesome place to start. Right away I noticed the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 in the list because I am recently Cica-obsessed, especially for redness reduction. I will have to see if I can get my hands n some of that. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave me this info. <3

  6. Megan, (or anyone, really): can you talk to me about mists? I love using them during my skincare routine, but I’m hesitant to just throw one in my purse and mist my face all day. I live in a warm climate, so it sure would be refreshing for me – but do you find that all that misting messes with your makeup?

    • I basically use them all the time, which isnt the best answer. When I wake up I use one before my day cream, then I usually spritz a little on to set my makeup. (The trick is to make sure you arent too close to the nozzle here!) I tend to just mist throughout the day whenever it crosses my mind, and I also use more mist after my shower and before my night routine. I think aside from the moisture and hydration boost, I feel like a spritz prepares my face for products and makes my skin more “slippy”, meaning I use less of my super expensive products because they spread easier and absorb better. Hope this helps!

      • Thanks!

  7. I love Dr. Roger’s balm, but the rest of the box are small samples. This isn’t a great box. I used to love this box, but lately it has been really lacking.

  8. I’m still patiently waiting for my box to arrive 🙁 Tracking hasn’t moved at all for at least a week. I’ll remain patient since the month’s not over yet, but it’s hard when I really want this box because it’s that good to me. 🙂 lol

    • I just got off the phone with customer service because my box is still in pre-shipment and it sounds like one batch of boxes ran into shipping troubles because of the aerosol/ hazardous label. They are sending them via ground and tracking should be updated tomorrow.

  9. Thanks for the review!

I’m getting into facial mists as well.

Would you mind terribly if I asked you which jasmine and rose mists you’re using and if you liked them enough to repurchase?

    Thank you!

    • Oooh, jasmine & rose mists… yumm. I think I just got rose & jasmine face mist in the IBE Discovery Bag (I can’t remember the brand right now), and it smelled sooooo beautiful! When I smelled it I said it should seriously be a perfume. 🙂

    • Hey Ella! I would be happy to spill! I most often flip between Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist ($42) and Ranavat’s Jasmine Tonique ($40). I also HIGHLY recommend Caudalie’s Grape Water, which is super affordable ($10-18 at Sephora.) If I am feeling pinched in terms of $$$ I always buy the Caudalie. It is just as good as the others but lacks a scent. I didn’t even like it the first time I tried it but then the more I used it the more it became a staple of my routine. If you are just wanting to try something to see how you like this sort of step, you can’t go wrong with that grape water!

      • Megan – thank you for the recommendations! I’ve heard of Jurlique but didn’t know anyone who’s actually used it. You’ve convinced me to pull the trigger and get my hands on their rose mist.

I’ll try all of them one paycheck at a time, lol.

        Thank you again!

        • Hey again Ella! Before you splurge, peek at your local T J Maxx or Marshalls. I have seen the rose mist there a handful of times for closer to $15! Let me know what you think. <3
