Animal Trackers Club "Introductory Box" Review - February 2020

My 3-year-old son is creature-obsessed and we spend a lot of time watching and playing our own version of Wild Kratts at home. He knows so much about animals and loves learning as much as he can so I was looking for an interactive way to support his interest and came across this subscription that explored new animals every month. It sounded like it would be perfect for him and when this box showed up,  it was so rewarding to see his excitement! This month we will be reviewing the Introductory Box which provides a few things to help get us set up and ready to explore the animals each month. Let's check it out!

The main item in our box is this great tin lunchbox featuring Bode Bear and the Animal Trackers logo. This will be perfect for storing all of our animal gear in each month as we collect it! It will also double as a place to play with our animal magnets which will come in subsequent boxes. I love the retro design and Bode is pretty cute!

We received a note from Bode Bear welcoming us to the box and explaining a little bit about how it all works and what we can expect.

This is our Animal Tracks card ring. Each month we will receive an animal photo and track card that we can add to this ring as we discover new animals. I love this idea and know my son will enjoy collecting these cards!

We also received this animal coloring card so that we can color in the various animals as we receive them each month. It will be a great way to track which animals we've explored and which are still to come!

We received a card about biomes of the world and more specifically, the savanna. My son is already very familiar with African savannas and I was surprised when I asked him to find Africa on the biome sheet map and he located it right away! We talked a bit about biomes and habitats and what kind of animals we could find in each. We watch Planet Earth a lot, too, so a lot of this was just review for him, but the term biome is a new one and we loved learning about how many different biomes there are in Africa. It was probably more educational for me, to be honest! Haha.

They provided a set of foam animal stickers for him to place on these two savanna scene cards.

He loved placing the stickers on the cards!

The last item in our box was this set of animal cards. There are eight adorable animals with both front and back views and a card with several different game ideas on them. The backs of the cards are blank, making it an ideal set for a game of Memory!

We set up our cards and had some fun playing Memory with them. Whenever we flipped over two that didn't match we tried to come up with fun name for the new creature we had created. I think we have an Ostriphant and a Cheebra here. This was also one of the ideas listed on the card!

After our game of Memory we did a few different sorting games; sorting by color, sorting by pattern (stripes, solids, or spots), and then we compared the piles using a little bit of counting and math comparison skills to discuss which had more.

After sorting, we went back to coming up with new animal species which the kids had a lot of fun with. We also named some of the animals with proper names as well!

Verdict: I can already tell from this Animal Trackers Club introductory box that this is going to be a favorite subscription of ours! It is perfect for my son and his love of animals, and even though there wasn't too much to this box, they did really well with the few materials they did provide. My son loved learning about the different biomes, he enjoyed the sticker activity, and we all had fun with the animal cards. Simple ideas, but so many ways to explore! The lunchbox is such a cute way to store our animal goodies in and I know he can't wait for the next box when we get to start our animal collection! I am also pretty excited that this box is so affordable at only $16.95 ($13.95 + $3.00 shipping) per month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this is the first box you will receive.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I feel like even for this much $, for what they send you is still overpriced. You can easily find better items at the Dollar Store or TJ Maxx.
