Robb Vices December 2019 Review

Included is a handy booklet with all of our product info. These are always filled with tons of useful info and great images. This month our box is a collab with Anna NYC, a brand known for creative uses of crystals and agate slices. As a rock hound, my interest is piqued!

Agate Cheese Plate and Knife - Retail Value $95.00

FYI: The plate is about 6 inches across.

This is pretty cool and is totally something I would keep around for entertaining. For a cheese plate (at least one I would make) it is on the smaller side. But I could totally see myself using this in a multi-plate spread, maybe using different plates for different types of cheese. The entire plate is a slice of agate, and there are little clear feet underneath to protect your surfaces from the rough edges. It came with a nicely weighted cheese knife.

Amethyst Whisky Cubes, set of 4 - Estimated Value $96.97 (Buy a set of 6 for $145.00)

Oh, I really like these!! Whiskey stones are really cool, and an awesome alternative to ice that can water down your liquor or drink. Just toss these in the fridge or freezer and then use them as ice cubes to cool down your libation of choice. The set on the Anna NYC website contains 6 in a really gorgeous box, which might have been more of a wow here, but I am still pretty happy with such a cool item.

Amethyst and Glass Wine Cork

This was another cool piece, though I couldn't find it on the website. The only items remotely similar are completely carved and come as a decanter set. This piece doesn't really feel as expensive as the other ones this month, but I still can't wait to use this after cracking my next bottle of wine.

Verdict: Compared to my other recent Robb Vices boxes, this one felt really nice. BUT I still don't think the boxes lately have reflected the cost of the subscription per month. Not even close. I also think that if you aren't into entertaining or crystals/rocks, this might have been a really confusing experience for you. I personally liked the items, but there just wasn't enough here. A bottle of whiskey to go with the stones or even a bottle of wine for the stopper would have made this box feel more valuable and more complete. I am also still just generally confused about the overall direction of this box compared to what it used to be.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Sign up by the 1st of the month to receive that month's box.

ACTIVE DEAL: Save $50 off your first subscription (LUXURY50) or receive a FREE Altec Lansing ALT-500 Bluetooth Turntable valued at $149 (TURNTABLE.)
CODE: LUXURY50 or TURNTABLE

Value Breakdown: This box costs $144.90 ($129.95 + $14.95 shipping to PA) meaning each of the 3 items has an average cost of $48.30.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

January spoiler alert: BOOZE!

Received my box super late tonight. Wow, now this is what I’m talking about! Great box. I wish we still had the forum so I could list it with the spoiler cover for folks who don’t want to know yet. If every month was this great I’d sub for a much longer time than 3 months here, 3 months there.

They told me that several of the next few boxes will have booze. I cancelled anyway. The cashmere box was just bad. And while I didn’t really like the last box I wouldn’t call it bad. I was supposed to get the Jan. box today but my area has been on lock-down since last night so no deliveries oday. 🙁

I’ve been in this club for over two years and it only goes further and further downhill. At this point my own FOMO is becoming nothing but a drain on my bank account. The actual joy of receiving a cool “vice” hasnt been felt in over a year. I really need to smarten up. Robb Vices sucks.

I have received this box every month for over two years. This use to be my favorite sub. The last few months I keep saying, “wow this is getting bad. If I get another box not worth the price I’m canceling.” Well, I said that with last months scarf and gloves box but had fomo is this month they redeemed themselves. Yet again, this rock box unfortunately crossed the line.. even at the grandfathered pricing. Boy do I miss the old RV days – value, themes, and new experiences. Looks like they outsourced the last few boxes and just have whoever’s product that’s in the box be the ones shipping in an RV box. Cutting costs from every aspect. Hate to see it.

I thought the box was okay since I have the old pricing. My agate was quite a bit smaller than the one MSA received and more oval than round and has quite a bit of pittting in the surface, not smooth at all. It felt like a reject that they wouldn’t have been able to sell outright.

Quality aside, I actually think the cheese plate is a reasonable size for two people. It’s a cheese plate, not a party platter. It’s not going to be good as a charcuterie board. But, even with the smaller size I ended up with, I can easily toss enough cheese on it and have a decent snack, not a meal, and we’re talking about your choice of one variety of cheese. If you want crackers, they’re not going on the plate. The size is closer to a fine dining amuse-bouche than an appetizer at a bar and grill.

I think I’ll actually use everything this month, but it still feels light. A few of the cocktail picks they sell would go nice with the the set too.

I appreciate the effort they’ve made on getting the boxes shipped on the correct month lately.

I used to subscribe to Robb Vices (only for 3 months) and this particular box gave me major FOMO so I bought it off ebay for a lot less than the subscription price. I am shocked by how small the cheese plate is and surprised that the edges aren’t finished. Etsy has several agate platters that are finished (and larger) for a lot less. I do love the wine stopper and whiskey stones. I ordered a set of amethyst cubes off Etsy to go with the 4 from the box (because 4 stones means that I would be drinking alone).
I do hope that everyone who received the box loves it. After seeing it in person, I would be pissed to have paid the subscription price for it. I’m afraid Robb Vices and I have broken up with no hope of reconciliation.

This box used to be good. Not anymore.

I received this box and I felt like the agate pieces weren’t anything special that made them scream “Anna NY”, however, this coaster is on her website as a wine coaster, set of 2 for $115.

Megan, can you tell us the diameter of the cheese plate in inches? It’s so pretty, but size does matter! Thank you.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Dea! Sorry about not including that. I will add it to the review! It is about 6 inches across!

holy crap, that is NOT a cheese plate, that’s a coaster lol. a VERY expensive coaster

Christy

I never subbed to Robb Vices for the reason you mentioned in your review – you just don’t get enough value for the money. If I needed items like these, I could jump online and select the ones I actually want for about the same price as this (price-inflated) box.

While these do indeed look like very nice items, the size of the cheese plate looks barely bigger than a coaster.

I can’t help but think that Robb Vices might be in danger of folding.

So this is nice and all, but the cheese plate seems more like something that would come in Bombay & Cedar or maybe Globe-in. The whiskey stones and wine stopper seem more like Robb Vices, but like you said, it would have been good to have liquor or wine with it. I wonder if there’s some reason they stopped sending alcohol?

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

maybe they stopped sending booze was because there were a bunch of people here complaining that all that ever sent was alcohol?

Reply ButtonReply

Darlene

There were always people crying about an adult over 21 having to sign as well as some states having restrictions about mailing alcohol.

Darlene

There can also be hassles with sending alcohol and people were constantly crying about their state not allowing alcohol to be shipped there or the fact that an adult over 21 has to sign. Tons of crying about that.

Alex

Agree – if you like the design AND have a grandfathered price, it’s a nice box. I have mine up for swap; it’s just not my style.

Is there any chance MSA could use this platform to reach out from RV and say look, we know a lot of subscribers, and they are seeing a decline/change in the sub – what’s going on?

Regardless, thanks for the review. I’ve been curious to see what someone else thinks.

That happened a couple of years ago on the forum side. It didn’t do any good. The owner even posted a few times and then quickly ran off when subscribers provided their opinions about the quality of the box. I can confidently say that no one was rude or used foul language. People were just honest. But I guess it was too much for him to handle.

And on another note, man, I miss the forum. 🙁
