My Fashion Crate January 2020 Review

My Fashion Crate always includes an insert with descriptions of the items and their values. The front side of the page lists everything in the Essential box, while the back gives you the Premium box details. They include pictures, which I always appreciate.

Classic Navy Top, size L - Listed Value $38.00

This top is definitely my style with the stretchy navy fabric and the simple design. It does look a bit boxy, but it's one of those tops that will be great to wear on those days where you feel like nothing fits but you still want to look cute. It has a lot of fabric to it that feels heavy and lays in folds which I think makes it pretty flattering. I like that the sleeves are tight-fitting and I could see adding some jewelry to dress this top up for a night out! It's very comfortable and while the tag says to handwash, I was able to successfully wash it in the machine on delicate. I did hang it to dry though just in case!

Multi Color Beaded Bracelet - Listed Value $30.00

This bracelet is so dainty and delicate! I actually really love the colors here with the blues, browns, and black that make it feel like a more casual arrangement. Although, that pearl in the center surrounded by gold beads amps up the look a bit. It's very simple and will go with anything, especially our new top. I was definitely afraid it would break since the string is just so tiny, but so far it has held up really well even after sleeping with it on. I was a little surprised at the listed price, but these Miyuki glass beads are new to me and there's not much information on this particular bracelet.

Here it is on. I love that it has beads at the end of the strings too!

Ribbed Fold-Over Socks by Mark Ashton - Listed Value $15.00

These cozy socks are nice and long and I appreciate the neutral color. While they are a thicker knit they still felt pretty breathable and were comfortable to wear. I probably wouldn't pay the listed price for them, personally, but ankle socks retail for $8.00 on the Mark Ashton site, so I'm sure the listed price is probably in the ballpark.

Here they are on. They go up to just under my knees.

Hurraw Raspberry Tinted Lip Balm - Retail Value $5.00

This lip balm is such a nice warm berry color that comes completely from plants. It has purple carrots for 100% plant-based color and is organic, vegan, and raw with a raspberry flavor. I was worried I wouldn't like it since I really dislike raspberries, but both the scent and flavor of this were subtle and worked well for me. If it provided a tint, it was a very light one and it provided a decent amount of moisture for my incredibly dry lips.

The following items are only in the Premium Box:

Heather Knit Blanket Scarf - Listed Value $45.00

This blanket scarf is very large and made of a thin knit material that is soft to the touch. The card shows the scarf in some beautiful blue tones, so I was a little disappointed to receive this color scheme at first because I will choose blue 99% of the time given the choice.

I was so convinced that I wouldn't like it that I decided to use it as a throw on our loveseat the way I had with my FabFitFun throw from Winter 2018 since they are about the same size.

That is, until I realized it was 60 degrees outside and it was date night. I threw this on over my black dress from the November 2018 box and it kept me warm and cozy while looking pretty stylish, too! It was the perfect pop of color for my all-black outfit and I have now completely changed my mind about letting my loveseat wear this one!

Black Knotted Headband - Listed Value $15.00

This faux suede (feels like velour to me) headband is really cute and I like that the shiny fabric dresses it up a bit. It's cute and super warm since the fabric is double-layered. I had planned on modeling this one for you, but my youngest son put it on himself the next morning and I still have not been able to locate it. I'm sure it will turn up shortly after this review is published, but in the meantime, I'm sorry!

Verdict: I thought that everything from My Fashion Crate this month was perfect for a winter curation. It may not seem super original to send a winter headband, scarf, socks, and lip balm, but individually, I thought some of the items were quite unique like the plant-based lip balm and the nice material of the headband. The socks I could take or leave, but the top and the bracelet were very much my style. As for the blanket scarf, it was a pleasant surprise and I am glad I gave it a chance!

The total value for the Premium box using listed values comes to $148.00 this month, which is awesome for a $55.90 ($49.95 + $5.95 shipping) box. As for the Essential box, the value is $88.00, which is great for a $40.95 ($35 + $5.95 shipping) box. For the $14.95 extra paid for the Premium box, I received the scarf and headband (valued at $60.00).

That bracelet is very pretty. It would look cute stacked with some of your Pura Vida bracelets.

Yes! I know I have some that it would work so nicely with in my stash! 😊 I have actually been wearing it non-stop and it’s held up so far! 👏

That top looks very comfortable! I think the tight-fitting sleeves you mentioned complement the swingy, boxy cut.

Honestly, though, everything here seems really overpriced, except for the only branded item (the lip balm).

I’m someone who loves online shopping & looking for deals though, so I can see that if someone doesn’t enjoy that or doesn’t have time for it, this sub might be very useful & fun.

I would have a hard time paying some of these retail prices for sure! I try to look at the average cost or breakdown price for each item and usually these are around what I would pay if I saw the item at a store. I’ve actually discovered a lot of fun things through this subscription, but it’s one that probably has it’s niche for sure since it might not be everyone’s style! Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment, Marion! 😊

Omg. It’s hard to find someone who dislikes raspberries, as much as I do. Well, not sure if you despise them as much as me! They are so gross. Ick. Other than that this looks like a good month for them. Lol.

One of my kids will eat virtually any fruit, but he won’t touch raspberries. Even fake, like in pop tarts.

Oh, I hate raspberries, too! Which takes out any “mixed berry” concoction. All red things are suspect unless I know what they are.

I’m the same way with strawberries. Can’t stand them or the flavor of them, but I’m the only one I know who feels that way! 🙂

Haha I really don’t like them! If I can taste just a hint of raspberry in something, I can’t usually eat it!
