Medusa's Make-Up January 2020 Review

Included is a card with all the products inside as well as some info about the new types of items we can look forward to in 2020.

Now, on to the items!

Liquid Eyeshadow in 'Grace', 3 ml – Retail Value $13.00 (currently on sale for $3.99)

I expected this formula to have a lot more color payoff than it actually did, especially compared to the Medusa swatches on the brand site. This is downright demure! I also found it really difficult to build up, so if you are looking for a BAM purple, this isn't it. But if you want a wash of color, this is a nice choice. It also has a delicate shimmer that I like very much.

Above I blended the swatch out, while below it is straight off the applicator.

Love Byrd Pina Colada Mascara Melt, 1 oz – Retail Value $12.00

I love using coconut oil to remove tough eye makeup, but I could live without the pina colada scent. It seems overpowering and unless you like this particular scent, this might be a miss for you. The ingredient list is limited to the oil and the fragrance, so if you have used coconut oil before, you know this texture. If you haven't, it is a harder balm that warms easily and you rub it on your face to remove your makeup. The oil breaks down even the most stubborn stuff! The directions recommend using it on a slightly damp face, but I recommend using it at the first step in a double cleanse on your dry face. It just works better when the oil isn't fighting with water.

Totally Baked Eyeshadow in 'Bitchin', 2 g – Retail Value $9.00

This is a very pretty champagne shimmer shadow that works for lids or as a highlighter. The formula is great, I just think it is a little sleepy for this box. I get loads of natural champagne shadows and powders in loads of boxes. I want something more out there from Medusa's Make-Up since that is where this subscription really shines. Send me the shades I won't see anywhere else!

Soft, frosty champagne.

Love Byrd Tinted Lip Balm in 'Smile'', 8 g – Retail Value $8.00

Finally, our last item was an incredibly pigmented lip balm. The shade is one of those magical berries that work in any season and flatters everyone. I actually adore this item! The pigment payoff is amazing and it has a really yummy sweet scent. I also had success using this as a cream cheek tint too, making it a winningly multi-purpose item for my purse.

Love, love, love!

Verdict: This month's Medusa's Make-Up Beauty Box has a value of over $42 which is good for a $16.95 box. It wasn't my favorite box, but it was still filled with some nice items. The balm was by far my favorite in the bunch, but the champagne powder was also nice, though not terribly exciting. I wasn't into the coconut oil melt because of the smell, and I don't know that I will really use the purple shadow.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? All orders are generally processed within 1-3 business days. You will receive the box month that you sign up in.

Value Breakdown: At $16.95 for this box, each of the 4 items has an average cost of $4.24.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Great review. I’ve looked at the subscription many times, but I’ve always been put off by the name “Medusa”. Doesn’t exactly scream beauty, does it?

Medusa was so incredibly beautiful that Poseidon defiled her in Athena’s temple. I know, eye roll with the uncontrollable desire nonsense, but originally, she was gorgeous. Just sayin.
