Volition Beauty Mystery Bag Review

We received a coupon to use on our next purchase!

I love that everything came packaged in this cute holographic clear bag- and it even came with a chain to use it as a shoulder bag! While this isn't sturdy enough for everyday use, I definitely see myself using this to take the essentials with me on a night out.

Dual Cream Base, 2 oz - Retail Value $75

This moisturizer is pretty neat- the concept behind it is that it’s both a day and evening moisturizer depending on what serums you add to it. Think of this as the moisturizing base to creating a moisturizer tailored to your specific skincare needs based on what you mix with it. I tried this on its own and found that while it is lightweight, it still provides all-day hydration to my face. The texture on this isn’t your standard gel-cream moisturizer, but it also is a bit too thin to be a true cream moisturizer. I enjoyed it, and I love that the value is so high in relation to the rest of the items in the box.

Turmeric Brightening Polish, 1.52 oz - Estimated Value $14.44 (Buy the 4 oz version for $38)

Physical exfoliants like this scrub are products I don’t really reach for, but I am still always happy to try new-to-me products. This is made with turmeric to brighten skin, olive and sesame oil to hydrate, and micronized walnut shells to give that grit. I was able to customize the exfoliation a bit by how gently (or hard) I pressed when I was massaging this into my skin, and my skin did look a touch brighter and feel a bit softer after using.

Snow Mushroom Water Serum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $10.54 (Buy the 1 oz version for $62)

My skin really loves mushroom as an ingredient, so I was happy to see this sample again. Just like the last time I used it, this serum impressed me—the first ingredient on the list is mushroom extract, rather than water! This was hydrating and helped my skin to look supple and nourished. I would definitely consider grabbing this in the full size, and this made an awesome mix-in into the dual cream base moisturizer.

Apple Cider Vinegar Resurfacing Peel Pad, one pad - Estimated Value $4 (Buy a pack of three for $12)

This is actually one of those products I would absolutely buy in the full size and use. A lot of “peel pads” and “resurfacing” products contain alcohol, which I do my best to stay away from since it can inflame the redness in my skin or cause an increased sensitivity to other products (which, I would like to say is a totally personal preference- others can use products with alcohol in them with no issues at all, and some people will have even more problems than I do. You know your skin best, and I strongly believe in listening to what your skin tells you). This is alcohol-free, and yet I do still notice an improvement in the texture of my skin after using this apple cider vinegar-based exfoliant. It does smell very strongly of ACV, but it fades as you continue with your skincare routine.

The Verdict: I have tried a few products from Volition before, so I was stoked to get this mystery box. I absolutely love that the moisturizer alone retails for three times the cost of the box, and I thought the three minis were a good choice because all of them are popular Volition products. If I had one critique, it would be that I wish we had received the set of three ACV peel pads to get a better idea if they work rather than just one. Altogether, this box has a value of $103.98, which is absolutely fantastic.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you order today? Yes, as of publication this is still available for purchase!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $30.95 ($25 + $5.95 shipping) and I calculated an estimated total value of $103.98. That means you're paying approximately the following per item:

  • Dual Cream Base: $22.35
  • Turmeric Scrub: $4.30
  • Snow Mushroom Serum: $3.14
  • ACV Peel Pad: $1.19

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Ah, I absolutely love the prismatic illuminizing shield. Of all the primers I’ve tried over the years in boxes, this is my 100% favorite, plus spf. If I could get that in full size I’d go for this in a heartbeat

I received the same deluxe samples but my full-size was the helix eye gel. I like it, though if it gets too close to my eyes they water. I haven’t tried the serum yet, but I like the turmeric polish. Like you, I don’t physically exfoliate my face often and I also used gentle pressure.

“Mushroom extract” might still be mainly water, as it depends on whether it is a wet or dried extract. Some mushroom extracts also use alcohol and water in a double solvent extraction, of which the alcohol would be removed later, depending on the ultimate use. Volition would probably be able to clarify the issue if you contact them.

That’s so cool this is still available for purchase! I passed on it when it initially came out since I was halting my online purchases for a while, but now that that train has passed, I may just pick this up!
