Nomadik "North Bound" December 2019 Review

There is a small trifold pamphlet that goes over the six items included in this month's box, plus Nomadik Tips, the Nomadik Challenge, and a few discount codes for some outdoors brands.

Heroclip, small - Retail value $17.95

Even though I'm not an experienced outdoors person, I can already think of ways to utilize this clip. The small size I received is three inches tall when collapsed and expands to 5.5 inches tall. After swimming several times on my last camping trip, we had to make a DIY clothesline between two trees, and this would've also come in handy for that. I can also see myself clipping this to my pack to have my camping mug hang off and save space for other things inside. There are a myriad of ways to use this and since it rotates all different ways, it's super versatile.

Nomadik Multi-Purpose Gaiter

This might be one of my favorite items from the box this month. It's merely a tube of microfiber fabric, but it can be worn many ways to accomplish different things. While on a hike with my friend Molly a couple of years ago in Kings Canyon, things were definitely a little hot for me even though it was September. Having an article like this around my neck to wet or simply protect my neck from the sun would've been welcomed. I can also pull it up over my nose and mouth to protect against dust or smoke, or completely up around my head to keep my hair back when I wash my face at night. This takes up very little space but is super helpful! Now I don't need to purchase one of these on my next trip the outdoors store.

Frog & Co. Pocket Camping Stove - Retail Value $14.97 (currently on sale for $8.93)

This is just perfect for me since I'm starting out as a camper and haven't felt the need to buy a bigger camping stove yet. This one is super simple and is made of lightweight aluminum. It opens up to create a stand that you can set halfway to hold something smaller like a can of food or all the way for a larger item like a pot. It comes with six hex fuel tablets that are smoke-free so that you're not seen or smelled. Simply set one of the tablets on the platform of the stove and light it to cook your meal. Each tablet burns up to 10 minutes and you can use one or two at a time depending on how large the surface you're trying to heat. It comes in a super handy pouch for storage and the fuel tablets nestle inside the collapsed stove while not in use. I found a handy video here.

Gear Aid Ni-Glo Marker in Green - Retail Value $5.95

Here's another item that seems simple but necessary for safety. This little glow stick can be charged by the sun or artificial light to last up to 10 hours (after charging in direct sun for 2 hours). It has a key ring to easily attach to a zipper pull or keys and includes two plastic pieces that help it clip to clothing or a bag, or something like a fishing rod. This is also good for marking areas so when I come back to my tent from the bathroom I don't have to stumble around to find my campsite!

Alpine Start Instant Coffee Medium Roast, 0.11 oz. - Estimated Value $1.12 (Buy 8 for $8.99)

I NEED my coffee in the morning. To me, there's nothing better than waking up and making a cup in the wilderness when it's still quiet. Enjoying coffee outside next to a river in West Virginia was a great experience I had with my friend Nicole last summer and I'd love to do it again. To save space, I can pack this thin packet of instant coffee instead of a whole kit with a kettle and French press. Excited to try this out!

Alpine Start Instant Coffee Dirty Chai Latte, 0.70 oz. - Estimated Value $1.80 (Buy 5 for $8.99)

As soon as fall hits, I switch from iced coffee to warmer drinks like dirty chais. If you're not familiar, that's a chai latte with espresso in it for an extra kick! This packet includes the instant version of my beloved drink and like the coffee packet, I can't wait to check this one out on my next trip.

Verdict: I really loved this month's Nomadik holiday box! Last month didn't have me too excited but this time I found a lot to get me prepared for my next camping trip or hike. The gaiter, pocket stove, clip, and glow stick are all super essential and the two instant coffees should save me room in the car next time. While I couldn't get a value for the custom gaiter, the rest of the items in this box have a retail value of $41.79. After looking around online, I think the gaiter has a value of at least $15-$20 so I think this is a good box!

I subbed to this box last year and had no issues at all. I was able to easily cancel online. It’s a great box and I only cancelled because I wasn’t going camping and hiking much anymore. I has both this box and Cairn and Nomadic was usually a better value for me. I hope they aren’t having issues now.

Good to know as this was one of those boxes I considered. I really appreciate the warnings

Do not sub to this box! I’ve had so many problems with them, none of them resolved. Finally I decided to just cancel my sub. They make it look like you can cancel your sub online by just clicking a button, but when you click In that, it merely starts an email to them saying you are thinking of cancelling your subscription! And then, they never respond to any of the cancellation emails! I sent over ten of them (literally). After three months of trying to get them to cancel my sub, I had to notify my bank not to allow any more charges from them. It was the only way to get them to stop. They are truly terrible!!

Oh gosh, Beth! So sorry to hear about your experience with Nomadik and I thank you for weighing in! Customer service and canceling isn’t something we don’t always get direct experience with, so I appreciate you sharing yours.
