Knit Picks is an online yarn and knitting supply company that specializes in providing high-quality materials at a reasonable price. They also launched a line of monthly subscription boxes featuring their products!

It looks like Knit Picks totally overhauled their previous subscription selections (listed below) in favor of three new choices, with more details being offered at the end of January 2020.

The previous options for boxes are as follows:

  • Fan Favorites: $48.00 per month, for a surprise assortment of yarn, needles, and tools that are either brand new to the shop or products that are best sellers.

Knit Picks Sock Yarn November 2019 Review

Knit Picks is a fantastic online store for knitters and crocheters, and it’s always been one of my favorite places to shop for yarn and tools! They launched a line of subscription boxes that feature different products from their in-house yarn and pattern lines.

A card is included in the box that details the contents of this month’s Sock Yarn Box. The description reads:

The theme this month: choose your own sock yarn adventure! With a pile of Stroll sock yarn and a handful of projects to choose from, including our best selling Ternion sock pattern, your needles will stay busy well into the holiday gifting season!

There was a second card in the box that goes into more detail on each of the different boxes available.

Now, onto the good stuff - the yarn!

Knit Picks Stroll Fingering Weight Yarn in colors Dove Heather, White, Forest Heather, Sapphire Heather, Hollyberry, and Midnight Heather - Retail Value $43.92 ($5.49 per skein)

We received eight (eight!) skeins of sock yarn this month - what a yarn bonanza this is! The yarn is Knit Picks' Stroll line, which is 75% fine superwash merino wool and 25% nylon. Each skein is 50 grams and contains 231 yards. We received three of the same color gray skeins and five other colors (white, green, medium blue, red, and dark blue).

My one disappointment with this box was that this is the same yarn line that we received last month in the sock subscription box. Knit Picks has a large selection of fingering weight or sock weight yarn lines, so I would have loved to try something new from the company this month. However, Stroll is a super-soft, wonderful yarn, so I'm always happy to have more of it to play around with.

Ternion Knee Socks Pattern - Retail Value $4.99

The first of the two patterns included this month is for a set of three knee-high socks. The pattern is written so that all three designs (argyle, cabled, or lace) are constructed the same, but you can pick which patterning you like the best. The socks are written for a toe-up, two-at-a-time construction, which is my favorite way to knit socks!

Confetti Reigns Cowl - Retail Value $4.99

The second pattern we received is for a three-color stranded colorwork cowl. The colorwork design is simple and easy to follow, and it looks so fun to do! See below for more of my thoughts on this pattern.

Chart Keeper, Silver - Retail Value $11.99

We also received a magnetic chart keeper with the cutest knit-stitch pattern on the inside. There are four purple magnets that are included with the chart keeper, and it has a snap closure. Using a chart keeper is a great way to follow your pattern, especially when working from lace or colorwork charts. I found that these magnets were not strong enough to hold more than one piece of paper at a time, which was frustrating because I didn't want to rip apart the pages of my printed pattern. I think I'll be saving this to use with cross-stitch and embroidery patterns in the future, as those are usually just a single sheet of paper.

I loved the cowl pattern from this month, so I knew I wanted to cast it on right away. I had a lot of fun pairing different color combinations together - we received so many great colors that I had a hard time choosing! Here are some of my favorites I put together. Which combo would you choose?

Here's my progress on the cowl project! I ended up choosing to go a very neutral route and am using the gray, white, and dark blue colors. I absolutely love it! The colorwork pattern is intuitive and fun to do, and the short repeats mean that it's quick to memorize. I also like that there are no super long floats on the back - this would be a great beginner colorwork pattern since it's easier to get good tension with shorter floats.

Since this cowl is made with fingering weight yarn, it's thin and drapey. It will be perfect for those in-between seasons where you need just a little bit of extra warmth around your neck, or it would be the perfect accessory to wear inside a chilly office!

Verdict: I thought this was a fun Sock Yarn Box! I liked that we received so much yarn, and the two patterns are both practical and pretty projects. The chart keeper is also a useful tool to have. For $48.00, we received eight full-size skeins of fingering weight yarn, two printed patterns, and a magnetic chart keeper for a total retail value of $65.89. Knit Picks advertises the boxes as having a $60 value, so this valuation is right on the mark. If you know you are a fan of Knit Picks products, or you want to try new yarn and knitting/crochet items at a discounted price, I think this box has a great value!
