Scent Box October 2019 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

The information card usually has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side. For the second month in a row I think I would like to try the men's fragrance.

There was also a breast cancer awareness tie-in this month. (I don't think there was any charitable giving, just the postcard above and some pink ribbons on the envelope and such.)

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue - Estimated Value $19.62 (Buy 0.8 fl oz for $58)

This one was introduced in 2001 and is still being produced. I gather it was pretty popular back in the mid-2000s. I get samples of it in GWPs from Ulta all the time (like whenever they have a beauty bag with $50+ purchase) so I probably have about 8 mini tubes of this one already.

This one is a bit light for me, and kind of summery, and probably not something I'll reach for too often now that the days are getting shorter and the temperature is (finally) dropping. The base note is amber but this one doesn't have much longevity on me and the amber is kind of not noticeable in combination with my body chemistry among all the fruits and florals. This has bamboo, musk, bellflower, jasmine, and white rose as mid notes, and although the florals are not overpowering, they're definitely noticeable. Top notes include lemon, (green) apple, and cedar.

If I had to describe how this smells on me, it's just very light and fruity-floral. With most fragrances, the base notes are what stick with me, but here, the top and mid notes kind of predominate and the scent isn't terribly long lasting (perhaps because it's an eau de toilette, which is essentially the weakest level of fragrance). On the plus side, if you don't want to irritate your coworkers with strong fragrance, this could work.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $19.62. This is above the month-to-month cost of the box, which is great, and it's also a fragrance still in production, which has not been the case for several months in a row. This is one I was already familiar with and thought it was OK but not really my thing, but that's bound to happen from time to time with a scent of the month. You can use Scent Box's tools to choose fragrances that are more your style, of course, and I think this is the only fragrance subscription that offers free returns if something really doesn't work for you, which is a nice bonus.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

ACTIVE DEAL: Get 35% off your first month! No coupon needed - just use this link.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $19.62 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

Am I the only one who thinks it’s wasteful for them to send a new holder every month?

I’ve gotten so many Light Blue samples. It doesn’t smell great.

I have been wearing it for 15+ years so I disagree. Fragrance is totally subjective.

However this is such a joke of a product- they basically buy cheap bottles of old perfume off of Groupon or something and then divvy it up to consumers for $15? This is a scam.

Their Scent of the Month is often older. But you can choose your own fragrance each month from among lots of current and newer fragrances including from expensive brands — you can see the list on their website without logging in or signing up.
