Luno Life Ambient Night Lights – Retail Value $34.99 (currently on sale for $29.99)

I would never expect to see something like this in a camping subscription, but it definitely is a super cute idea. These soft yellow string lights bring a certain calming ambiance to an otherwise gritty camping situation that I can get on board with. Feeling a little romantic or just needing some soft light to cook to, this string of 15 feet of lights and 5 removable suction cups has enough to light the way. There are four settings on the lights from constant, to slowly dimming and coming back, to two blinking speeds. I also like the little pouch they come in to keep them organized. Maybe not a necessary item for the burgeoning camper, but a fun accessory for someone who has everything they need already.

Bennkai Portable Book Light – Retail Value $32.00

This book light doesn’t really read a $32 price tag to me, but I think it can come in handy before bedtime when I’m digging around in my bag in my tent at night, trying to find my toiletries. I am a traitor to the old school ways of reading actual paper books and have a Kindle, so a book light isn’t super useful to me. I do appreciate how thin it is, so it won’t take up much space as well as how bendable it is so it can be tucked into a tent pocket or backpack. It has quite a bright LED light so it’ll be plenty to light my way to the bathroom at night as well.

Green Goo Pain Relief Salve Stick – Retail Value $9.95

This is actually a great idea to take camping. I’m not as young as I once was and get all sorts of aches and pains these days, especially after a hike or sleeping on the ground. This portable salve stick is easy to toss into a pack and can be used on bruises, sprains, muscles, arthritis pain, and more. It has a minty scent and is only made with simple natural ingredients like arnica and cinnamon.

Verdict: While this month’s Nomadik has a retail value of $76.94, I’m not sure I’d pay retail for either of the lights. As someone who is just starting my camping arsenal, it left me wishing there were more practical items in the box instead of just “nice to have” items (although the salve is very helpful). Not every box is going to be a winner, so I know the next one might be better!

          1. Great subscription for teenager! My teen age kids loved these boxes the past year.
