October 2019 Dapper Dog Box Review

October's box theme is The Dapper Dog School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

Each box comes with two info cards, one listing the featured item of the month—the Dapper Dog monthly bandana—and the other has some social media info as well as a little more info about the charitable nature of this box.

Murray is ready to dig in!

Griffindog +Slobberin Bandana & Ravenpaw + Hufflepup Bandana

This month's Dapper Dog came with two reversible bandanas! They are changing up the style of bandana from a triangle-shape where you just tie up the ends to a triangle with two ties at the end.

This style is definitely easier to tie, but I think the other style is a little more dapper. What do you think of the changes? Here is the bandana modeled on my BFF Murray (he is my 8-year-old Corgi-Maltese); the medium size is the perfect fit for Murray.

Steel Dog Baby Owl Dog Toy - Retail Value $9.99 (Found here for $8.49)

This baby owl is so cute!! Murray loves furry toys, so he was attracted to this one from the get-go. This owl doesn't have any squeakers or crinkling in it, but it does have a tennis ball in his belly, perfect for fetch, yet not the best toy for chewing or keeping the dog busy by himself.

Murray is amazed at how soft his new toy is.

Pawstruck Bullysticks

Dapper Dog sends out some really great treats, but I find it very strange that this packaging doesn't have any information on it about these sticks. There isn't an ingredient list, and there isn't a name for the treats either. How bizarre! I am assuming they are bully sticks based on the smell (so stinky, yet so tempting for the doggo!) and the size/shape. I don't feel totally comfortable handing this over to the pooch without the right information, and it's so hard to tell on the Pawstruck website which treat this is since they basically all look the same.

I did let Murray chew it for a bit (and of course, he loved it), but once it started falling apart on my carpet, I ended up exchanging it for one of his other bones.

Taj Ma-Hound Bakery For Dogs Witch Hat Frosted Cookie

Murray loves cookies, just like his mom. This one smelled almost like a human cookie when I opened the packaging, so Murray was pretty excited right away. We've received treats from this brand in Dapper Dog Boxes before, and their cookies are so festive and cute! Unfortunately, I couldn't find this specific one on their website, but I linked other cookies from their store above.

The first step is to sensually lick off some icing.

And then you go in for the cronch!

Creepy Ballers Spider Toy - Retail Value $14.99 (Found here for $9.99)

I love this toy! It is spooky season, so this ties right in with Halloween and the Wizarding World theme! Murray loves everything about this toy. It has a tennis ball, so it is perfect for fetch. The spider's belly also has the crinkly feature, which Murray can never resist. It is soft and furry, and it also has legs that Murray has already tried to rip right off (but hasn't managed it, yet!)

This is the MVP of this month's box, for sure.

Verdict: The theme of this box is adorable! The bandanas were a little bland for me, but I see where they were going with them, and I appreciate Dapper Dog representing all four houses. I think I may like the new style more when I see the next design they come up with. I really like the cute toys that came in the box this month, but we missed having our monthly bag of training treats and the bully sticks will sadly go to waste in this house. I was unable to come up with a total value for this month's box since I could only find the price of the two toys, but if you break up the box's cost and item count, you are paying $5.83 per item this month. This box wasn't the best fit for us, but we still had fun unboxing and enjoyed the overall theme, too.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the November box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $35/month, giving each of the 6 items in the box an average cost of $5.83.

Chelsee from The Dapper Dog Box

Hi Abby + Murray!

Thanks for taking the time to review this box! The Pawstruck bag was supposed to have an additional label on it with the product name, ingredients, and country of origin — I’m sorry that wasn’t included on your bag!

We always want you to know exactly what you’re getting in your box and are working on addressing this particular issue ASAP.

That product is a Bully Stick Filled Esophagus. You can find the product details here: https://www.pawstruck.com/products/bully-stick-filled-esophagi-6

I hope that information is helpful and, again, so sorry it wasn’t included on the original packaging!

Great review. Murray is absolutely adorable. I looks closely at the front and back of the Pawstruck package. There is no manufacturing information on it either 🤔. Not sure if I would buy something that they ingest without knowing what they are made of and which country they are made in

Murray licking that cookie is hilarious. I like the old style Bandanas better. Great review. I’m waiting for a good deal to try this box. 🙂

Hi Abby, thanks for the great review. Seems like Murray really enjoys doing the user testing for this box. He’s absolutely adorable! I agree with you that the previous style of bandana looked better, but maybe this type helps people with less flexibility or something? So strange that those bully-type sticks had no product name or description. I think you are very wise not giving them to Murray without knowing!

Yes, I thought that was totally bizarre! I let him taste it for a few minutes, then I cruelly took it away for his own good 😛 You just never know!
