Slay Glam Box October 2019 Review

Slay Glam sends an info card each month with an itemized list of what’s in your box, including retail values.

If you follow @slayglambox on Instagram, the box curator enables subscribers to choose certain items each month by DMing or commenting your item choice; I love this feature! This month I was able to customize which color lipstick & eyeshadow palette I received.

Slay Glam Luxury Lashes, Set of 5 - Retail Value $16

I love the look of a subtle faux lash, but these lashes are bold, bold, bold! Each pair gets bolder as you move down the box, which could be great if you are going for a dramatic Halloween or party look. Lashes are kind of a wash for me personally since I've never met an adhesive my sensitive skin can tolerate, but I do think it is pretty cool that Slay Glam sent out an array of 5 different styles to wear.

Crown Brush 7 Piece HD Bush Set and Tweezers - Retail Value $19.99

Oh, I just love receiving tools in subscription boxes! I am a makeup brush hoarder; I 100% have come to terms with that. Having a plethora of new brushes to reach for is so convenient, and it also cuts down on having to clean my old ones! Crown brush makes some of my very favorite, affordable brushes. I've never had any problems with shedding, and they blend powder and cream products seamlessly. It is really hard to find a great eyeliner brush, but this set delivered the perfect applicator for using powder shadow as a liner. Also, this set is my favorite color!

Jonathan Grey Beauty Eyeshadow Palette - Listed Value $31.50

I tried to find this brand online, but it seems like their website is down, so I linked their Facebook above. Just looking at this palette, I wasn't totally impressed. The packaging seems cheap for a 5 pan priced at +$30, and the colors aren't meant for day to day looks; however, I am very impressed by the pigmentation of the black eyeshadow. Wow! The other colors were a bit textured and didn't perform as well; that being said, I think this palette is overpriced, although it helped me create the very fun seasonal makeup look down below.

Manna Kadar Lip Exfoliator Lip Scrub - Listed Value $24

It would be an odd month if I didn't receive a Manna Kadar product in one of my boxes! I don't think I've ever tried a skincare item from them before, so this is a totally new experience for me. I really enjoy skincare when it comes in a stick form; it makes application so easy, especially for a step, like lip exfoliating, that I usually don't incorporate. This stick was very oily upon application and the grit was very fine. I swiped on a few layers and rubbed my lips together, and after about 20 seconds, I wiped the excess product off. My lips felt smooth and moisturized, making my lipstick application a breeze later on. This stick didn't have a scent or taste, which is preferable, and I really enjoyed using this easy-to-use product, even though I'd never pay the retail price for this item.

Cailyn Cosmetics Pure Lust Extreme Matte Tint Mousse - Retail Value $19

This lippie is very interesting! It has a wet, kind of whipped texture, and it applies like a very serious stain. I exfoliated my lips and applied a balm about 20 minutes before applying this with a lip brush. It was a task to layer color evenly throughout, but I ended up liking the look this gave me at first. After about an hour, I had to add a gloss to top this drying color off, but even then the color payoff stuck to my lips.

Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadow, in Flipper - Listed Value $5

I love Colourpop's products, and this is actually a color that I used to have. Flipper was one of my favorite Super Shock Shadows that came out; the glitter is beautiful, and the sherbet hue is really unique and fun to wear... but Colourpop discontinued this color a while ago. I discarded mine after using it for about 2 years because this formula tends to dry up after a while. I did receive this item broken, but luckily, a Super Shock is never really broken. you just press it back together, and it may not look as pretty, but it fully functions as it is supposed to.

Swatches from top to bottom: Cailyn Lip Tint in 77,  Colourpop Eyeshadow in Flipper,  Jonathan Grey Eyeshadow Palette

Here is the look I created using all the makeup products from this month’s Slay Glam Box. My inspiration was the Candy Corn I was snacking on, and I think the Jonathan Grey palette and Colourpop shadow really brought my inspo to life. At first, I thought the dark lip would be too much for my wild eye look, but I really liked the two paired together.

Verdict: Slay Glam Box sent out a nice variety of products this month. A lot of the items I feel were very overpriced for what they were, which inflates the value of the box, but I will most likely use them again. This box has a retail value of $115.49, all for under $25. I think it is a good box for anyone who likes to try products from brands that can often be overlooked or anyone who is looking to build up their makeup arsenal.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

I like the lip color very much. The eye shadow palette and single are total misses for a cool-toned person and not at all appealing to me. Glad some people love this color story, just not me.
