  1. Has anyone noticed that when purchasing items other than the subscription box on their site that there is now a shipping fee? They told me that some items ship free and others do not and the only way to tell is while processing the order and although some items require a shipping fee their system
doesn’t indicate which ones, frustrating to say the least

  2. Really nice box, will renew my subscription.

  3. Geese. I think it’s a good box

    • Same, I think so too! As far as the pillow spray, I’ll take everyone’s unwanteds lol! I was sad that it isn’t a little bigger, this spray seems to end up in everyone’s sub boxes but mine and I would love more of it! 🙂 🙂

      • I think the big one was in the Matrioska box this year.

    • I am happy you are happy! To each, their own. I am not a fan of the Hut group. I realized that their boxes typically contain to “real brands” and the rest are private labeled products, mass purchases in China to fluff out the box.

They own over 100 website brands (public information) they private label a line, put up a website, put the products in their boxes and sell it to other sub boxes. This is a huge money maker and we are literally paying for them for the privilege of advertising to us and building their brand. Quite genius but the difference between this $21 box and a $25 boxycharm is not even comparable.

The Hut group operates these “independent” brands from one huge warehouse at an international English airport (public record) in order to facilitate the deliveries from the private label factories. They also acquire smaller brands and I suspect, but do not have knowledge of, that they then change the manufacturing to be similar to their other products. They are like the puppy mill of the cosmetics industry. Keep the squired brand name, outsource the manufacturing and pump their products through boxes, that we pay for.

Once I did a little research, I thought it was wrong to give these people my money, so I no longer do. Lots of people still sub because the last recorded revenue was 916 million pounds in 2018.

What’s the big deal? Morphe boxes come from morphe. Sephora has play and include the Sephora line. The big deal is that we know up front that we are buying a brand box from a brand company, they don’t hide their ownership or supplement their boxes with non brands. And a case could be made that those boxes are higher quality, and specifically formulated rather than rely on a factories standard formulas with different labels.

So many time negative comments are because people know things, do research in what they are putting on their skin, have had prior bad experiences with a company. Etc. Lately Ipsy has struggled with the private label backlash as well.

Not everyone who posts a negative comment is entitled, trying to be a downer, or a jerk. When people have negative experiences, they may be sharing them to be helpful. And it’s okay for you to love the box and someone not to. That’s why there are so many boxes, one for everyone and their cat… or dog.

      • Sorry about the typos. 3 eye surgeries in 6 months and even though I have the plus iPhone, the small print commenting and typing is really hard… and then autocorrect does take over occasionally making it worse:( my apologies.

        • You charged me over $23 plus my box cost of $20.50 I was told last month that there was a one time shipping cost which I paid last month

      • Wow…this is very interesting!!!!! THANK YOU for all this ….do you know any of the brands they’ve acquired?! I believe ipsy is starting to do some of this as well.

Would love to know more info, I’m not good at finding info like this, but totally believe it…..are more boxes doing it or working towards this?!

        • I have been looking for a list in my spare time. I am so curious as well. Since there are so many corporations involved, it’s really hard to unravel. Each one of those websites will have Different corporation, with each one having their own registered agent for a different address. I have found lists, but not complete lists. And researching this is just a really weird hobby, I actually do have real work to do:)

      • Thank you, Debbie. Wish I also knew how to research like you, which you are amazing, by the way. The Hut Group is a company that I almost always try to avoid, based upon past personal experience.

      • Wow, Debbie..thanks for the info! Very insightful and I would’ve never known. I’ve only kept my subscription because their boxes are so pretty and I do enjoy the opening experience. I may like a few items in the box and always open try new products, but definitely not in love with the subscription. I’ve been thinking of canceling some of my subscriptions and I think I may pull the trigger on this one. I just canceled FFF too after 3 years of being an annual subscriber. Their last box was so boring, I didn’t even open it when it arrived and for the first time, I did not spend a dollar on their edit sale. That’s when I knew it was time to cut ties. On the flip side, I resub to BoxyCharmLuxe last box and I LOVED everything in my box! I was so happy I resub. It may be my #1 favorite right now.

        • I totally agree about the awesome packaging especially glossybox which is owned by the Hut group as well. I have been scouring the resale sites trying to collect 25 of the pink glossy boxes because I am putting together a custom Harry Potter advent calendar for my daughter and want to use those boxes;)

I sub to allure, Beautyfix, test tube and boxycharm.. they all have their good and bad months but I really believe that overall they are generally trustworthy and in my research, I have never found a big issue with them. I care about the products not whether they goof up on a month, or give bad service once, or whatever else goes wrong. All businesses have bad moments because they’re run by humans. So if I get two product I love out of each then I am happy as a clam. MSA has reviews and links for all of them so check them out.

  4. Frankly, not looking fantastic. So glad I cancelled.

    • I find little of use or value in the Look Fantastic Beauty Box. They say you get a minimum of six products. Make that six products as I’ve never received more.
Oh and I’ve had many similar products and lots that don’t suit my colouring or hair or skin type.

  5. I am looking forward to trying everything, though I wish the pillow spray was a bigger size.

  6. Yeah, this really isn’t worth $19 to me.

I actually can’t remember the last Look Fantastic box I liked, to be honest.

    • Same here. They’ve always been somewhat hit or miss for me but for a long time now I haven’t been the least tempted to resubscribe.

  7. Welp. Nothing fantastic about this box. Glad I cancelled.. definitely not worth the price. What is going on with these sub boxes lately?

  8. This used to be one of my favorite beauty boxes, but it has really fallen from favor with me. Tiny samples. MORE pillow spray??? I’m done.

    • I sure don’t need any pillows spray (nor want).

  9. Other than the sleep spray all of this is new to me and I’ve been a sub addict for years!

  10. A few of these are repeats.

  11. So glad that I’ve had spoilers to cancel Allure and Look Fantastic before charging me for November. That will add up over time.

    • Indeed, it is wonderful to have a head’s up (spoilers) so we don’t waste our money nor our time on crappy sub boxes. Thank you so much MSA crew!

      • It’s our pleasure, Kimberly!

        • All of you really are a good bunch of spending, splurging, and saving friends for us! You often get discounts for us on first boxes so that we can try one out if it catches our eye, and the fellow commenters like Debbie, above, can teach us a thing or two along our day. I’ll take as many spoilers as you can throw at me. All of you should get together for a group hug today!

          • I’m in New Orleans, but just had oral surgery, otherwise, I could try to drive to Baton Rouge to give Jessica and anyone else in LA one, but I can’t today. haha
