More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are (No Matter What They Say)
by Elaine Welteroth – Retail Value $26.00 (found here for $14.29)

Book summary from Amazon:

“Throughout her life, Elaine Welteroth has climbed the ranks of media and fashion, shattering ceilings along the way. In this riveting and timely memoir, the groundbreaking journalist unpacks lessons on race, identity, and success through her own journey, from navigating her way as the unstoppable child of an unlikely interracial marriage in small-town California to finding herself on the frontlines of a modern movement for the next generation of change makers.

Welteroth moves beyond the headlines and highlight reels to share the profound lessons and struggles of being a barrier-breaker across so many intersections. As a young boss and often the only Black woman in the room, she’s had enough of the world telling her—and all women—they’re not enough. As she learns to rely on herself by looking both inward and upward, we’re ultimately reminded that we’re more than enough.”

More Than Enough is full of gems, Starting with Ava Duvernay’s forward that encourages us to set our own expectations and prioritize time with ourselves! She discusses the transformative power of believing that “nothing bad ever happens to me.” Elaine Welteroth’s story is embedded with all the good advice that every good girlfriend needs. It touches on topics such as being a trailblazer, the power of intention setting, the need for representation, existing in spaces that weren’t built for us, and raising Black children to just name a few. This book is a must-read!

Literacy Lounge “Girl Be Free” Affirmation Card

The front of this affirmation card reads “I deserve love in my life #girlbefree” on the front and “Girl Be Free” on the back in a pretty cursive font. This is the logo for the BeFree Project and the Girl Be Free podcast. BeFree is a movement for women who are ready to flourish, feel fulfilled, and be free. This content, curated by Siobhan Sudberry, is encouraging and inspirational.

Literacy Lounge September 2019 Review - Shower Bomb Top

Literacy Lounge Shower Bomb

One of the Literacy Lounge relaxation products in this month's box is the shower bomb. Its minimalistic packaging leaves something to be desired. Also, the smell was very subtle. I’m accustomed to shower bombs that fill my bathroom with an energizing scent to get my morning started. I could barely smell this one.

Literacy Lounge Candle in Spring Scent, 2.5 oz

This 100% soy candle is very cute and smells fresh. It comes in a brightly colored tin with a zen-like pattern. The candle smells good but the scent is very light and got lost in my large open concept space.

Literacy Lounge Branded Bookmark and Sticker

As a bonus, this box also includes a Literacy Lounge branded bookmark and sticker. The sticker has the blue and white Literacy Lounge logo. The bookmark has a quote from Kofi Annan: “Literacy is the bridge from misery to hope”. I placed the sticker on the inner cover of the book and used the cardstock bookmark to keep my space when reading More Than Enough.

Verdict: This is my first Literacy Lounge box and I thoroughly enjoy receiving and reviewing this box. More Than Enough is a must-read for all women and especially working women of color. I love the BeFree affirmation card – not because it was anything extraordinary, but it reminded me to check in on the BeFree social media sites. There are so many gems there to be discovered. The candle is cute though lightly scented, the shower bomb was ineffective, and the added sticker and bookmark was a nice touch. Overall, I enjoy this book box, especially the book selection, and I look forward to next month’s box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?: No, order now to receive the November box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $38.98 and I’m unable to determine the retail value of the items in the box excluding the book. My value assessment is based on the curation of the box and the quality of the contents. I appreciate both the choice of the items in this month’s box and the awesome book selection, but the value of the products in this month’s box is unlikely to exceed the cost of the box itself. It’s an awesome box but not a great value.

Hi, I’m Shatae; pronounced shhh-tay! I work in IT Healthcare, I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 cool kids. I am obsessed with black culture, lifestyle, travel and art made by and featuring women of color. I also love trendy plus-size fashion and accessories, eclectic and bohemian home décor and all things self-care, mental health and fitness. My favorite box is Izzy & Liv’s Brown Sugar Box; a monthly box offering tees, accessories and lifestyle products designed for black women. I also subscribe to TheSelfCareBox, FabFitFun, CauseBox and Merkaela. Being a wife and full-time working mom, subscription boxes are one of the few things that are just for me! They are fun, convenient, reasonably priced and full of surprises.

Hi Shatae. I agree that it looks good, but costs a little too much for the number of items. Maybe one more thing added or $5 price reduction would make it more desirable.

I agree, Joan. Or, make the items lux and full-size.

Totally. Great review as always but the value just is not there. Or they could donate to charity. Someone is making a big profit on this one.
