Birchbox Find Your Mask Match Kit Review

Birchbox mask info

Here is the info sheet for the products included.

Birchbox mask Huxley

Huxley Secret of Sahara Sweet Therapy Scrub Mask, 1 oz - Estimated Value $8.51 (Buy the full-size 4.23 oz for $36)

I'm not really sure why this is called a mask when for all intents and purposes it is a scrub, but I liked it anyway. This has one of the most unique textures I have ever seen in a skincare product, with Luffa (a subtropical vine), prickly pear cactus extract, and walnut shell powder combining to make a gentle face scrub that warms up once massaged into the skin. I usually prefer chemical exfoliants to physical, but this wasn't too abrasive on my skin and left me soft and glowing.

Birchbox mask PTR

PETER THOMAS ROTH Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $2 (Buy the full-size 150 ml for $60)

This goes against everything I expect from a mud mask because the thick, gel-like texture never dries down the way other mud masks do. Rather than leaving my skin dry when I washed it off, my skin felt hydrated while still feeling clean.

Birchbox mask glamgldw

GLAMGLOW® SUPERMUD® Clearing Treatment, 0.24 oz - Estimated Value $11.67 (Buy the 0.5 oz version for $25 here)

This, on the other hand, has that strong drying experience I expect from a mud mask. This is a potent mask that I reserve exclusively for stubborn pimples and congestion in my T-zone, and I try to always follow up with a hydrating sheet mask after using this. I have been using it as a spot treatment for years, and I don't plan on changing that.

Birchbox mask ohk

Oh K! Sleep Mask, 0.6 fl oz - Full-Size! Retail Value $6.50

This sleeping mask is supposed to be used as the last step in your routine before bed, and I have used it both after a moisturizer and on its own when I was too tired for a full skincare routine. Both mornings my skin was hydrated when I woke up, and since this pouch has about 6 uses the cost per use isn't too expensive, either.

My Clarins RE-CHARGE Relaxing Sleep Mask, 0.10 oz - Estimated Value $1.59 (Buy the full-size 1.7 oz for $27)

One layer of this mask can be used as your evening moisturizer, and if you're wanting the hydration of a sleeping mask then simply apply another layer. I like the dual-purpose of this gel-cream moisturizer,  and it sank into my skin quickly and didn't leave me sticky.

Avène Soothing Moisture Mask, 1.69 oz - Full-Size! Retail Value $26

I was surprised by how much I loved this mask- usually, Avène products are just okay to me. This isn't a wash-off mask, rather after wearing you wipe off the excess. I took the instructions' advice and followed with a spray of the Avène Spring Water Mist, and my skin really soaked everything up and felt deeply nourished after using.

Birchbox mask sand

Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask, 0.45 oz – Estimated Value $11.03 (Buy the full-size 2 oz for $49)

This mask is made with kaolin clay, bentonite, aloe vera, vitamins A and E, witch hazel, and licorice, and it is designed to brighten and refine your skin. I used this as a T-zone mask when I felt my nose was looking congested, and this mask was cooling to my skin immediately once applied. This mask also has a (not unpleasant) scent, so if you are sensitive to scents that is something to consider.

Birchbox mask purlisse

Pūrlisse Watermelon Energizing Sheet Mask - Estimated Value $3 (Buy a 6 pack for $18.00)

This has watermelon, aloe, and cucumber, and it smelled like watermelon candy when I first put this mask on (that scent faded relatively quickly, but it was fun for a few minutes). The sheet mask material was plush and thick, and my skin had a glow once I took this off.

Dr. Jart+ Bright Lover™ Rubber Mask - Retail Value $12

This mask was FUN. To use, you apply the contents of the ampoule (which had a thick, moisturizer-like consistency rather than a typical serum) to your skin before applying the rubber sheet mask on top. The rubber was extremely cooling to my skin, and the instructions said that while 20 minutes was sufficient, you could leave this on for 40 for maximum hydration and glow. That is exactly what I did, and as I sent a funny snap to my friends of me wearing this mask, one of them helpfully pointed out it looked like I had a slightly melted slice of provolone cheese on my face. She wasn't wrong, and I would definitely do this mask again.

GLOV Mask Remover - Retail Value $10.96 (9.90)

This is just a microfiber cloth with a pocket to stick your hand in to use remove your face mask. It's simple, but it's practical, and I have already used it multiple times.

Birchbox mask black

DEARPACKER Black Tea & Black Rose Hydrogel Mask - Retail Value $4

I love rose in my skincare, I love tea in my skincare, and I love hydrogel masks. It should surprise absolutely no one that I loved this mask. It smelled faintly of the tea that is in the ingredients list, and it was soothing to both my skin and my senses.

The Verdict: This Birchbox kit is one of my favorites that Birchbox has curated- I love masking of all types, and I was pleasantly surprised with how many of these masks I hadn't tried before. I don't think any of these masks were duds, but my favorites were the Dr. Jart+ mask and the Avène mask. In terms of value, Birchbox promised a total value of $107 and by my math, this kit is worth $99.26.

I’m so glad I read your review of that rubber mask! All this time I had seen them I assumed they were a modeling mask that for whatever reason I can never make work for me…. I swear I follow the instructions with those masks, but each time I’ve tried them they either dried up (rubberized) on me before I could fully get it on my face, or it was just a gloopy mess and never full dried as to where I could peel it off properly. Anyways, I’ve seen those Dr. Jart masks at Marshall’s plenty of times and I’ve always passed them up, but now that I know it’s sort of like a sheet mask, I’ll definitely snatch one up next time. 🙂
