Sensory TheraPlay Box July 2019 Review

It looks like they've changed their insert from a pamphlet style to a one-page flyer which I thought looked really nice! On the front, it features the month and photos of our items while the back gives a brief description of them along with their retail values. They also included their contact information and have made an eco-friendly move by incorporating their disclaimer, which used to arrive on a separate card, onto the page as well!

They did still include a separate motivational quote card which I always enjoy! These are great little cards to place around the house for inspiration and sometimes they even make a nice note to send to someone!

Senseez Vibrating Cushion in Bumpy Turtle - Retail Value $29.99 (found here for $12.61)

I would say our "hero" item this month is this Senseez vibrating cushion. I love that we received this fun turtle design that is so cute! One side has a neat turtle shell pattern and the whole surface is covered in super-soft Minky dots for a tactile sensory experience. There is a little clip attached so that children can clip it to their backpack or take it on the go. It even has a cute little tail!

The top unzips to reveal a thin piece of foam on top of a thicker piece which hides this vibrating core. It takes two AA batteries, which I had on hand, and when a child hugs or sits on the cushion it begins a gentle and soothing vibration. The vibrating feature only stays on as long as the button is being pushed so there is no worry of it getting left on which is nice. My kids were excited to see this cushion and they love hugging it and sitting on it!

Moluk Mox Ball - Listed Value $6.00 (Buy a 3-pack here for $17.95)

This Mox ball has some cute and creative packaging! This little ball resembles a face with its eyes and a wide mouth that opens when you squeeze its sides. I love that they made their little information sheet look like a tongue and had it sticking out of his mouth. This is meant to be a fidget ball that can also help strengthen hands as children work to squeeze open his mouth. The inside is pretty hollowed out as well so they can actually insert and pick up items with it. If you have more than one of these little guys, it looks like you can also stack them on top of one another for some more fun!

Toysmith Squishimals Turtle - Retail Value $4.99 (currently on sale for $4.49)

We have received Squishimals before but this guy is by far our favorite! I love that he comes with a hard outer shell which helps protect him from getting too dirty and gross and the kids love that they can push his little head, arms, and legs back inside his shell just like a real turtle. It looks pretty realistic for a plastic toy, too! You can also stretch and pull the rubbery parts of him and they are nice and squishy for play.

Warm & Fuzzy Penguin Globe - Retail Value $4.27, Listed Value $4.99

Globes like these are always appreciated by my kids. The shaking and waiting for the snow to fall are so calming and satisfying. This seems to be made of pretty sturdy plastic, but I have yet to find a completely kid-friendly globe, so we'll see how this one holds up! I love that the cute little penguin inside is not stationary but can float around freely!

Hyper-Flex Inside Out Ball - Listed Value $4.99

This bright, soft, squishy ball is a unique and fun one! You can flip it inside out and it has these pointy spikes all over that make for a really fun tactile sensation. Especially if you bounce the ball around in your hands. The fact that it flips inside out made this one a winner with the kids!

Abilitations Squash It - Listed Value $3.50 (Buy a pack of 6 here for $16.61)

This little fidget toy was one that I really enjoy playing with. It is really simple and just transfers the blue liquid from one side to the other as you squash it and play with it. What I enjoy is that you can control the speed of the liquid by your touch which makes it a fun little challenge. I tried to get a video of this one, but with just one hand, I wasn't quite successful in showing what it could do! I love the simplicity of this and that it is so small it could fit into your pocket to keep with you when you need a fidget.

Verdict: This was a great Sensory TheraPlay Box that my kids enjoyed. I think there was a pretty wide variety of sensory toys to accommodate children with different needs. The Senseez pillow was a nice inclusion and I could see it being helpful for calming a child as well as the snow globe. The fidget toys were all very different from one another and offered opportunities for some fine motor development as well so hopefully, those receiving this box will find something that works for their child! I like that we get such a unique assortment of toys and with a combination of both retail and listed values, the total comes to $57.12 which isn't bad for a $47.86 ($39.95 plus $7.91 shipping) box. The curation always adds some value to this box for me as well!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the September box, but this box is currently available as a one-time purchase in their shop. To receive the "current" box, you must sign up on or before the last day of the previous month.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $47.86 ($39.95 + $7.91 shipping) and we received 6 items which means that each of the items in this box has an average cost of $7.98.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Do you have a child on the autism spectrum?

No, I don’t, but my kids seem to enjoy the items each month. I do have experience working with children with special needs though and I could see a lot of these being helpful depending on the needs and preferences of the child!
