Motherhood Survival Mini Box Review + Coupon – Summer 2019

Motherhood Survival Box is a quarterly subscription box for mothers that sends handpicked items specially designed to support them and give them a much-needed break. They offer two subscriptions, the “Original” box which comes with 4-6 handpicked items and a surprise gift for $49.95 + free shipping, or the “Mini” box which contains 2-3 items taken from the “original” box for $24.95 + free shipping.

FYI: The “mini” box is no longer an option for new subscribers, but it looks like current mini box subscribers will continue their subscription through 2019. More on that below!

This review is for the $24.95 Mini Motherhood Survival Box.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Motherhood Survival Mini Box Summer 2019 Review

Our box came with several different inserts. There was one sheet with a reminder to take care of yourself and another with some self-care ideas for summer.  They also included a note about how they will be discontinuing the Mini box come 2020 so that they can continue to give customers better value in their boxes. They are also offering current subscribers a 20% discount if they choose to upgrade to the Original box. They also listed the items you would have received if you had subscribed to the Original box… just a little something to entice you and your sense of FOMO!

We received this note which highlights all of the items we received in our box this season.

Happy Summer Sign by 7th Street Signs – Listed Value $8.00

It looks like this shop is currently taking a break, so I was unable to verify the retail value, but I think $8.00 seems about right for this cute little handmade sign! I don’t have any decor in my house that screams summer so this bright little sign will serve as a happy reminder to enjoy the sunshine and heat while it’s here! The wood in this sign is incredibly smooth and has been sanded down very nicely which speaks to its great craftsmanship.

Beachin’ Hair Sea Salt Texturizing Spray for Hair from Wildflower Beauty by Jessica, 2 oz – Retail Value $12.00

I have a lot of sea salt and beach hair sprays, but this one was unique in that it was scented with lavender essential oil. I love the smell of lavender and this smelled really nice, light and fresh, but the scent did not linger at all in my hair. This spray is made with just a few natural ingredients: water, aloe juice, Epsom salt, pink Himalayan salt, jojoba oil, and the lavender essential oil. It gave my hair a nice soft tousled look that was very natural looking after spritzing it on my damp hair and letting it air dry. To help freshen it up once it was dry, I was able to add more to my hair and not once did I have any fear of it making my hair look greasy or crunchy. I was pretty impressed with this formula and could see using this one at the beach when I like to keep my hair products really light! Plus that frosted glass bottle is really pretty!

Sport Natural Mineral Sunscreen by Suntegrity, 3 oz – Retail Value $24.00

The last item in our box was this natural mineral sunscreen. This sunscreen provides broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection and is water-resistant for 80 minutes. The active ingredient is non-nano zinc oxide and like most zinc formulas this one went on thick and white and was difficult to rub in and even afterward left a slight white cast on my skin. It does have a light orange scent to it which I liked and didn’t find to be overpowering at all. I can always use sunscreen and I like the size of this 3 oz tube which is perfect to throw in the diaper bag since it can be used on the whole family. It has a great EWG rating and is also a reef safe formula which is preferable for my family! This was a great item for a summer box, but as one of only three items, it felt kind of boring and took away from the special feeling this box usually gives me, especially since I already have comparable sunscreens that I usually purchase for much less than what this one costs.

Verdict: This summer Motherhood Survival Mini Box didn’t quite have that wow factor for me this season. Sunscreen and beach hair spray seem like obvious choices and as part of the larger, original box, I’m sure that they felt like great additions, but in the mini box, it just didn’t feel very special. I do really love the hair spray and I will probably end up using that entire bottle of sunscreen at some point, but my favorite item was the cute little sign which was the most unique item in the box. The total retail value of this box came to $44.00 which is great for a $24.95 + free shipping box. Objectively, the value is there and I know I will use every item in the box, but I still can’t help but feel a bit underwhelmed.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of now, the summer box is still available, but it looks like you will only be able to purchase the full-sized Original box. From Motherhood Survival:

If you sign up before the 15th of any month your box will ship that month on the 20th. If you sign up after the 15th your box will ship the 20th of the following month. You will receive a tracking number once your box ships.

COUPON: Use code CJ05 to save $5 off your first box!

Value Breakdown: This box is $24.95, including free shipping so here is what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Sign: $4.54
  • Spray: $6.80
  • Sunscreen: $13.61
