  • The Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages.

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 a month. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost July 2019 "Airplanes" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Airplanes" and they included some fun facts for us! On the back there is a note encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if they've won before.

Petite Boutique: Night, Night, Little One by Make Believe Ideas Ltd. - Retail Value $9.99 (found here for $7.98)

This little book is really cute with its own mini-book section built-in at the bottom where we say "night-night" to all the baby animals. Each page has a little rhyming message about going to bed and the animal illustrations are all adorable. I always enjoy a good bedtime book!

Each of the little animals also had different textures that we could see and feel making this a fun tactile experience as well!

The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight by Elli Woollard - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $15.98)

This is a story about a dragon whose parents have deemed him old enough to leave home to find a "nibblesome knight" to bite. He sets out on his journey, but ends up injured and befriends a lad who helps take care of him, as he thinks that this dragon is simply a duckie who has hurt his wing. Soon the two realize that the other is not quite what they seem and their friendship is tested when they end up in battle against each other. This was a fun book with silly, rhyming text and cute characters that the kids enjoyed reading about.

How Many Hugs? by Heather Swain - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $15.56)

This was our favorite book and I thought it was really something special! It was mushy and sweet as it described the various animals and how many hugs they could give, two for each arm, but it balanced the cuteness out with some actual facts and details about all of the included creatures. These ranged from clams with no arms to the eight-armed cephalopod octopus to the 300- legged centipede, which they somehow managed to turn into a sweet creature due to the nice hugs it could give. I love that this book involved learning so many fun facts that appealed to my kids (and myself!) and that they even provided a great glossary at the end. My kids really loved this one and so did I! It's one that I would definitely purchase if I saw it on a shelf somewhere!

Verdict: Lillypost is one of my favorite subscriptions to receive each month. The books are always such nice selections that my kids and I love and I think the mixed book option is perfect for families like mine with kids at varying ages. While we really enjoyed all of the books this month, our favorite was definitely How Many Hugs? since it was so unique! The total retail value of our books this month came to $44.97 which is great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box that feels perfectly curated for my family!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
