  • The Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages.

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 a month. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost August 2019 "Coral Reef" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Coral Reef" and they included some fun facts for us! On the back there is a note encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if they've won before.

Slide and Find Nursery Rhymes by Make Believe Ideas Ltd. - Retail Value $9.99

Our first book this month is a great interactive one that features several familiar nursery rhymes. All three of my kids (ages 1, 3, and 4) have been taking turns checking this one out as they love the little moving parts on each page and seeing how the pictures change. Each page shares a little bit of each nursery rhyme and features busy illustrations that are even more engaging when you're able to discover something new or get them moving by sliding or spinning the various parts.

Doll-E 1.0 by Shanda McCloskey - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $15.30)

This story was very relevant to children today who seem to have a way (and obsession) with technology! Charlotte loves tech and gadgets and knows more than her parents do when it comes to these devices, but one day when her mother surprises her with a doll, something very ordinary, Charlotte is quite perplexed. What is she supposed to do with this toy that doesn't DO anything and can't interact with her in the way that technology can? Soon Charlotte, who is full of bright ideas, finds a way to make Doll-E into the perfect pal. This book was cute and unique with great illustrations and I enjoyed the different text styles that included speech bubbles that helped to make the story even more interesting.

First Dictionary by Make Believe Ideas Ltd. - Retail Value $12.99 (found here for $11.04)

I love that they chose to send an important book like this one! I know I was given a "first dictionary" as a child and I still have it, and my husband still has his. It almost feels like a rite of passage and I can't wait to gift this one to my daughter for her upcoming birthday! I love the large size of the pages and how detailed and helpful the information is. In addition to a ton of definitions (over 400!), this book also includes information on how to use this dictionary along with a page that highlights some useful words and phrases. There are great illustrations to accompany each word and I think she will really enjoy this once she is able to read it by herself!

Verdict: This was another great mix of books from Lillypost and I'm not surprised since they are consistently one of our favorites to receive each month! The kids love the books that they send and I love the mixed book option which ensures that everyone gets a new book to explore. The total value of the books we received this month came to $40.97 which is pretty great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box full of new and exciting books!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the September box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 a month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Slide and Find Nursery Rhymes: $6.07
  • Doll-E 1.0: $10.94

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
